HEADLINES

Entering his sixth season, Head Coach Rex Ryan owns a 10-11 career pre-season record. Last season, the Jets finished the preseason 3-1, their first winning preseason under Ryan. With the win vs. IND (8/7), Ryan has now won four-consecutive preseason games.

Joining the Jets staff are former LSU special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey and former Jets quality control coach Bobby April III, who was promoted to linebackers coach following the departure of Brian VanGorder.

This offseason, the Jets have added seven players with five-or-more years of experience to a roster that has 43 players with two or fewer years of experience. The veteran acquisitions include WR Eric Decker, whose 18 red zone touchdown receptions are tied for the most in the league since 2012, T Breno Giacomini, who joins the Jets after a Super Bowl winning run, RB Chris Johnson, who has opened his career with six-consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and has registered 10-or-more total touchdowns in four-of-six seasons and QB Michael Vick, the only player in NFL History with 21,000 passing yards and 5,000 rushing yards in his career.

• Last season, Lynn split time between two primary running backs, Bilal Powell and Ivory, who were separated by only six carries, the fewest carries separating the Jets top two runners since 1991 when Blair Thomas (189) and Brad Baxter (184) were separated by five.

He passed for 3,046 yards, making him the first quarterback in Jets his-tory and 13th in NFL history to throw for more than 3,000 yards in his rookie season.

• The Jets fielded the NFL’s sixth-ranked rushing offense, gain-ing 2,158 yards on the ground. Led by running backs Chris Ivory (team-leading 833 yards rushing) and Bilal Powell (697 yards), the pair combined for 1,530 yards, the most a duo of Jet runners has combined for since 2010.

COACHING CAPSULES

DENNIS THURMANDefensive CoordinatorSixth Season with the Jets

• Oversaw a transition on defense in 2013 as the club started seven new players. Despite that changeover, the group fin-ished third in the league in rushing defense, allowing 88.3 yards per game and the fewest yards per carry, holding op-ponents to just 3.4 yards per rush.

• Among the players making contributions defensively last sea-son were several players who entered 2013 with two years-or-less of NFL experience. Defensive linemen Damon Harri-son, Sheldon Richardon, a 2013 first-round pick who earned Defensive Rookie of the Year honors, and Muhammad Wilk-erson (career-best 10.5 sacks and second-team All-Pro recog-nition) joined linebackers Demario Davis, who posted his first 100-tackle season, and Quinton Coples, who made the tran-sition from defensive lineman and registered a team-leading 50 quarterback hurries, were all key cogs in the front seven.

• Young players in the secondary included former 2012 sev-enth-round selection, Antonio Allen, who won the starting job in training camp and responded with a career season, and 2013 first-round selection, cornerback Dee Milliner, who finished his rookie season strong, capping it with Defensive Rookie of the Month honors.

LOUIE AGUIARAssistant Special TeamsSecond Season with the Jets

• In the 2013 season, primarily worked with the specialists, as-sisting both kicker Nick Folk and punter Ryan Quigley in their career years.

• Folk set career bests in both field goals made (33), finishing one short of Jim Turner’s team record, and field goal percent-age (91.7%), breaking Mike Nugent’s 2006 team record. He also connected on three game-winning field goals, giving him eight as a Jet, tying Pat Leahy for most game-tying/winning field goals (last minute of the fourth quarter or overtime) in team history.

• After spending training camp with the team, Quigley was re-leased on final cut downs before returning to the squad in Week Three following the release of Robert Malone. In 14 games, he established a new team mark for net punting aver-age (38.9).

BOBBY APRIL IIILinebackersSecond Season with the Jets

• Enters his second season with the Jets after being promoted to linebackers coach on January 18, 2014, replacing Brian VanGorder who departed to be the defensive coordinator at Notre Dame.

• In 2013, served as quality control coach assisting VanGorder with the linebackers. Last season, linebackers David Harris, Demario Davis and Calvin Pace, all set career numbers.

• Harris again led the team in tackles, posting a career-best 149. Davis stepped in as a starter at inside linebacker and registered the first 100-tackle effort of his young career. Pace, who returned to the team last offseason after his release, posted double-digit sacks, recording a career-best 10.0 on the season.

MIKE DEVLINOffensive LineNinth Season with the Jets

• Longest tenured Jets assistant, beginning his ninth year on the team’s staff, and second consecutive season as the of-fensive line coach.

• The offensive line integrated two new starters last season for the first time since the 2008 campaign. Both guards were new as former Super Bowl winner Willie Colon took over at right guard and 2013 third-round selection Brian Winters took over at left guard. Despite the changes, the Jets finished 2013 sixth in the league in rushing, gaining 134.9 yards per game on the ground.

• The line put forth an impressive finish, helping lead the Jets to a 3-1 record over the final four games while allowing just five total sacks, tied for the third-fewest in the league over that span.

• In his first season with the Jets in 2012, Lal guided Kerley to his most productive season in which he led the team in recep-tions (56), receiving yards (827) and yards per catch (14.8). Lal also helped Holmes record 20 receptions in 3.5 games, putting him on pace for a 91-catch season before suffering a season-ending injury vs. San Francisco in Week Four.

Began the season 23-for-23 en route to establishing a new Jets mark for consecutive field goals made at home with 20.
