Evaluation – DVD cover The genre of our DVD cover is rock/ punk, the same as our music video as the DVD cover is for the music video. Our group looked at some examples of examples of existing DVD covers for albums of the same genre. There are many conventions associated with the rock/ punk genre. The main image on the front of our DVD cover was not in the music video itself. The image is of the main character holding up coiled belt, with an eye in the middle of the belt. The image is weird/ unnatural which is a convention of the punk/ rock genre. The cover of the album ‘In Love and Death’ by The Used consists of a tree with a heart hanging from it, the band name and the album title which appear to be quickly painted. For the title of our DVD cover we used a very rough scruffy looking font which suits the genres of rock, punk, metal etc. The title was similar to that of the one on the ‘In Love and Death’ album as they both appear to be quickly drawn on. I looked at album ‘Blink 182’ by Blink-182, and noted that it like the ‘In Love and Death’ album it was relatively simple. Consisting of just the name of the band and the album, and a logo which represents the band itself. We have borrowed some conventions from DVD and CD covers for the rock/ punk genre. We used dark colours for the front of the DVD to give it a dark metal look. Again, similar to DVD and CD covers of this genre we have used a scruffy damaged look. For the production of our DVD cover we were constantly using new technologies. We used the internet for the planning and research of the DVD cover. We specifically looked at existing DVD and CD covers for the same genre of music and studying the conventions that they included. This research gave us an idea of what we could include on our DVD cover so that it would suit the genre. We used Fireworks to produce the DVD cover, adding in still images from the music video. To add effect to the DVD cover and make it look genuine and not tacky we used tools such as the blur and smudge to link the images together. A text box was added for the title of the DVD and the track listing on the back of it.
