Media and TechnologyFinal Project Description
Final Project Overview:
In order to practice project-based learning, the courses final project will encompass a project
that builds off of the foundational knowledge gained throughout this course; as well as, someof the 21st century skills you have learned in this course. One of the most important 21st century
skills that a Masters of Teaching degree candidate should master is the ability to communicate
effectively and efficiently through the use of technology and digital media.
In thisfinal project, you will expand the website you built in the beginning of the course to
encompass the new information and skills gleaned over the past few months in this course. This
final project should serve as more than just a course requirement. It should also serve as an
artifact for you to share with potential employers and/or scholarship committees. Creating an
informational website with relevant educational resources that has a professional appearance
can set you apart in a very competitive job market. Therefore, I urge you to take this final
project seriously and think of it as more of a potential strategy for setting yourself apart fromother candidates in future job interviews instead of simply grade in a course.
Although the majority of you do not have a background in graphic design or in art, there are so
many website templates in weebly.com that you can produce a professional looking website
without the need for an artistic background.
Project Description:
Imagine that a national educational company is launching a new informational website and hashired you to design the website because of your background in education and 21st century
skills. The development process includes two phases. In the first phase, you are only
compensated for about 20 hours at $100/hour. However, if your prototype is approved for
phase two ~ you will receive a consulting few of $120,000 for producing the final product that
will be advertised to schools throughout the country.
In the first phase of the development process, you are asked to create a prototype for the
website to share with members of the companys board of directors. In order to move on to
the second phase of this process with the company, you have to WOW the board of directors
with your prototype. In this simulation, your classmates are members of the companys board
of directors and I am the CEO.

2/3
Your task is to create a professional, informational website that demonstrates an advanced
understanding of your knowledge of media and technology; as well as, your application of 21st
century skills. You will need to create the following components for your informational
websites prototype:
1. Introductory webpage
a. The first page of the website must be very appealing to the general public. You
want to grab someones attention with this splash page so that they will wantto click on links and go deeper into your website. Once someone browses your
website, they are much more likely to purchase a subscription to the paid
services portion that would be developed in Phase 2. So, it is imperative that a
introductory page (Splash page) be visually attractive and interesting enough
that someone chooses to explore the website in more depth over the plethora of
other educational websites available.
b. Use this as an opportunity to demonstrate your creativity. You can make up the
name of the company or just leave it as Your Names Educational Resource
Site.
c. Try to remember to choose a theme that you can consistently use throughout
the entire site.
2. Main Menu / Main Navigation
a. The Main Menu page in this prototype should provide creative ways to make this
page visually appealing.
b. The navigation can include: links, buttons, images, etc. Be creative.
3. Content to Include in the Prototype
a. There is NO NEED TO RE-CREATE the wheel here for content. You have a
plethora of content from this course that can easily be copied and pasted into
this website.
b. The only think you may need to do is add photos, graphics, etc. in order to make
your site more visually appealing.
c. Please answer the following questions by including relevant content from the
course and/or your assignments:
i. History of Media and Technology (U1L1 lecture)
ii. Media History Timeline (TimeToast assignment)
iii. Digital Media Collage (U1L1 assignment)
iv. What is informational literacy? (U1L2 lecture)
1. What is creative commons?
2. What is social bookmarking?

3. What are RSS feeds?
4. What is a blog?
5. What is a wiki?
v. What is web 2.0? (U1L3 lecture)
vi. What are some web 2.0 applications or tools? Identify and describe some
of the ones discussed in class. (U1L3 and U1L4 and U1L5)
vii. Provide a brief explanation of copyright law as it applies to media and
technology for educators (i.e what are the media fair use guidelines for
educators?) (U2L1)
viii. What is the ISTE organization? (U2L2)
ix. What are the ISTE NETS? (U2L2)
x. What are multiple intelligences (U2L3 and U2L4)
xi. How can educators select instructional software? (U2L3 and U2L4)
Final Considerations:
I place no stylistic demands on you for this project, except that you must design something
appropriate for this type of target audience and that it is appealing to the mass market. I would,
however, like to see you make this project something that you can be very proud of.
Since the content is going to be very easy for you to add to the site (everything is already done
in the course for you either in my content or through your assignments,) please make everyeffort to demonstrate your 21st century skills and design a creative and information website.
I would highly recommend looking at other educational websites to get ideas on how they
organize their webpages and their websites. This may assist you in creating a visually appealing
site.
