Media and Me! Interne t TV Film: cinema and other Music Gaming Mobile phone Newspaper/ Magazine I use the internet for many different reasons. Such as social networking, listening to music, researching topics and watching the latest music videos. I use the internet a lot, it’s a great way to find things out quickly and effectively. I like the internet for this reason solely, its an easy way to find information out really quickly and effectively. I also think it’s a great way to keep in touch with your friends and family over social networking sites, however it does have its downsides with the fact that chartrooms used on the internet are quite dangerous and also being able to access films and TV programmes it damages the film industry and the TV media. I use the TV to watch films, TV programmes, to watch music videos and to find out the news. I use this very rarely as I normally use my laptop to watch films or catch up with my TV programmes. I think this is damaging to the TV marketing as using the internet you can access everything. To watch films I occasionally go to the cinema. My usual way of watching films are usually on the TV on sky by recording them on the sky plus or wait until the film comes out on DVD and watch it through the DVD player. However, I usually use the internet to access films instead of buying the DVD which again damages the film industry because most people do use this to watch Within the music industry I use CD’s, the radio-via my phone, and in the car, I use the iPod on my phone where I store music and I also use the music channels on my TV. I use this everyday most of the day, mostly using my phone. I like music altogether as it is useful to pass time and a good source of entertainment for I use gaming just to play fitness games on the wii. I only play these every now and again. Not very often. I like the fact that its there to play at my leisure however I don’t like playing it all the time. I like the internet for this reason solely, its an easy way to find information out really quickly and effectively. I use the TV to watch films, TV programmes, to watch music videos and to find out the news. I use this very rarely as I normally use my laptop to watch films or catch up with my TV programmes. I think this is damaging to the TV marketing as using the internet you can access everything. To watch films I occasionally go to the

cinema. My usual way of watching films are usually on the TV on sky by recording them on the sky plus or wait until the film comes out on DVD and watch it through the DVD player. However, I usually use the internet to access films instead of buying the DVD which again damages the film industry because most people do use this to watch films which will make the film industry eventually go bust.

Within the music industry I use CD’s, the radio-via my phone, and in the car, I use the iPod on my phone where I store music and I also use the music channels on my TV. I use this everyday most of the day, mostly using my phone. I like music altogether as it is useful to pass time and a good source of entertainment for when your doing nothing.

I use gaming just to play fitness games on the wii. I only play these every now and again. Not very often. I like the fact that its there to play at my leisure however I don’t like playing it all the time. I also play games on the internet and don’t use the console very much anymore.

How has audience consumption of the media changed over the last 50 years? In the past 50 years the consumption of media has changed massively. 50 years ago people looked at the media very different to the people in this day in age. For example, If I was to want to watch a film, I would have the technology using the internet to either watch the film online or download it to my laptop, or I would be able to go out and buy the DVD of the film. 50 years ago if people wanted to see a film they would have to go to a cinema to see it as DVD’s and the internet was not something access able in that time period. Also when we go to the cinema we can go and select the film we want to see as there are usually about a dozen new films out. However, 50 years ago there would have only been one film out in a cinema at a time. Therefore in this time period we have much more complex and easier ways as a source of entertainment within the film industry. Also 50 years ago if a person was out and needed to contact another person they would have to use a payphone in the street to be able to speak to someone. If we wish to make a call whilst we are out today we have mobile phones which are small and able to be carried around wherever you go. This mobile phone also allows us to text message someone if they are unavailable so they can still get the message quickly. 50 years ago that would not have been a very effective way to get hold of someone as they simply didn’t have the technology to do this. When we are at home with nothing to do we think of nothing more but to switch on the TV and flick through many different channels to watch things such as films, music channels, TV dramas, cooking channels, kids TV channels etc. However, 50 years ago people wouldn’t have as much choice of TV channels we have today as they would only have 2 set channels on their TV. Also we have TV available to us all day everyday. 50 years ago the TV stations would have been turned off at a certain time of night and would have been turned on at a certain time in the morning and was not running the whole night through. Today we have stations that run programmes during the whole day and night. These days there is a lot more choice in every media terms and it is defiantly more low cost. For example, the latest technology these days are cheap to buy and aren’t overly expensive where as 50 years ago people would apply for bank loans and work and save just for a TV. Also people these days have moved on with their technology as they expect good quality now such as HD and 3D. 50 years ago people would have just started to be introduced to the world of moving pictures and the way things are made within the films such as special effects. They used to be done with much more physical models and stop motion photography and painted backdrops. Whereas nowadays we are able to use CGI to make it look more realistic and more high definition. This is better because it is more believable and works better to view for the audience. This is why Videos have now become unpopular because they were blurry and distorted and not very clear to watch whereas the DVD’s and blue rays are more quality definition which also makes it better to watch for the viewer.
