City of Connections: Medaille’s Community Partnerships Fall 2009 | www.medaille.edu/community Northwest Buffalo Community Center is one of the largest human service providers in the Buffalo area, offering complete medical and dental services, youth and senior citizen programming, education, crime victim assistant, daycare and more. NWBCC and Medaille College have partnered to develop internship opportunities. The Arts in Education Institute of Western New York, Inc. stimulates learning through art with music, theater, dance, architecture, and visual and media arts programs which help students develop critical thinking and problem solving skills. AIE has moved its headquarters to Medaille Buffalo Campus, representing a new partnership between the Institute and Medaille that will extend to the students served by AIE and Medaille College students across several academic programs at the graduate and undergraduate level. In the “Riverside Project,” Medaille will partner with the Buffalo City School District to operate a state-of-the-art high school campus with academies for health care, finance and entrepreneurship, targeted to open in 2010. The Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy’s mission is to broaden awareness of, appreciation for, and investment in Buffalo’s Olmsted System to enhance, restore and maintain this cultural treasure. Medaille’s partnership will cultivate students and provide a variety of internships. Music is Art (MiA) connects music and the community, exploring and reshaping music’s cultural, social, and educational impact on our community. The College’s partnership with MiA will elevate students’ understanding of the importance of music in our culture, and provide opportunities for students to receive hands-on-experience. Kaleidoscope Theatre Productions seeks to be an instrument of enrichment, enhancement, and enlightenment through the creation of quality theatrical experiences, and will mark its eighth anniversary in 2009. The production of the current season will take place at Kaleidoscope’s new home, Medaille College. This partnership will provide internships to Medaille students and allow the Music and Drama Club to utilize the temporary stage that Kaleidoscope has constructed. National Federation for Just Communities of Western New York, Inc. supports its member organizations in the human relations work of building community by advancing inclusion & justice throughout the United States. The College’s partnership with NFJC will provide students with an array of internships and allow them to work together to support NFJC’s mission and enhance the Buffalo community.
