602VFM MULTIVARIABLE VORTEX MASS FLOWMETERFOR GAS AND STEAM
The 602VFM series vortex mass flow meter utilizes robust piezoelectric elements to detect Karman vortex frequency behind a shedder bar. It is able to provide real-time data for mass flow, volume flow, temperature, pressure and frequency with one instrument and one process connection of either wafer- or flange-type. The parameters can be viewed at the local LCD or can be output through various interface options, such as frequency, 4~20mA, RS485/Modbus, 2-wire HART, BACnet or LonWorks.
Due to the advanced spectrum signal processing technology and quad-pressure sensors technology, the 602VFM is able to provide excellent vibration immunity for stable and accurate flow measurements, even at low flows without any need for start-up tuning.
The 602VFM mass flow meter has integrated a flow convertor, a mass calculator, a PT100 temperature sensor, two pair of pressure sensors and a flow sensor into one unit. The temperature and pressure sensors are installed inside of the shedder bar with full protection. The whole system is robust and reliable. There is no risk of leakage, no need to install external temperature and pressure
sensors, and no need to invest in an external output temperature display unit or a square root extractor.
The 602VFM was designed to have very low power consumption. It can be powered by the 2-wire 4~20mA loop or by the HART loop, which makes this product an ideal choice for process monitoring and field applications. In addition, the 602VFM can also be powered by an external 24VDC power supply to provide other communication capabilities such as RS485.
The whole 602VFM system is wet-calibrated in factory in order to guarantee high accuracy. There is no need to recalibrate when the system is used for air, gas or steam.

The wafer-type vortex flow meter, 602VFM-W, does not have flanges on both ends of the flow sensor. It is designed to be easily connected to a pipe line by using the existing flanges of the pipe line with bolts and nuts (refer to the figure below). If there is no flange on the pipe line, a pair of dedicated flanges can be welded on to the pipe line before the installation. Spire Metering can supply the dedicated flanges upon request.

Other Ordering Information Required
Application Example:
(1) Fluid Information What type of fluid (air, N2, or steam or superheated steam)? What are the viscosity and density of the fluid? What are the process pressure and temperature ranges?
(2) Flow Information The calibrated velocity range of our vortex flowmeter is 4m/s~70m/s (13~230ft/s).
However, detailed information on the actual flowrate range, the size of the process pipe and straight pipe run will be beneficial.
(3) Pipe Joint Information For wafer type, we may provide companion flanges, upon request, which will be welded to
the pipe during installation. Therefore, please advise the material of your process pipe. We will make the companion flanges to match your pipe material.
Regarding bolts and screws, for wafer type, we will provide those with the companion flanges if ordered. But for flange type, as all bolts and screws are standard parts, we will not provide them. You may buy them locally to save cost.
In order for us to recommend the right product for your specific application, please provide the following information
Saturated steam, process pressure 0.8MPa. Flow rate: 800~4000kg/hr. 4” wafer process connection. RS485 / Modbus and PULSE outputs, 24VDC power supply
Check velocity range:In 0.8MPa (116psig), the density of saturated steam is about 4.162kg/m3 (170°C or 338°F)800kg/hr ≥ 192m3/hr = 6.8m/s4000kg/hr ≥ 961m3/hr = 34m/sThe velocity is within our standard measurement range of 4~70m/s

Appendix I: How to Determine Operational Flowrate Range for Gas Flow
The flowrate range listed in the above table is for air at standard temperature and pressure (20°C and 101325Pa). If the working medium is not in such condition, the flowrate range will be different because it is dependent on the medium’s density and viscosity.
In general, the maximum flowrate of a vortex flow meter does not depend on the temperature and pressure of the medium- only dose the minimum flowrate. The following formula can be used to calculate the working condition minimum flowrate.
Here:Qp : The minimum flowrate at working conditionQ0 : The minimum flowrate at reference condition (such as 20°C and 101325Pa), m3/hρo : Reference medium (air) density at reference condition, ρo =1.205kg/m³ ρ : Medium density under working condition
The minimum flowrate at working condition should also be calculated according to its kinematic viscosity,
Here:Qv : The minimum flowrate at working condition Qo : The minimum flowrate at reference condition (such as 20°C and 101325Pa), m3/hVo : Reference medium (air) viscosity at reference condition, 15kgm/S²V : Medium viscosity under working condition (kgm/S²)
Finally, the minimum flowrate at working condition can be determined by choosing the larger one between Qo and Qv.

Appendix II: How to Determine Operational Flowrate Range for Steam Flow
Before selecting the right vortex flowmeter, you may need to find out the operational flowrate range of your application first.
For superheated steam flow, find the pressure, temperature and corresponding density from Table A2 or Table A3. For saturated steam, find the maximum and minimum flowrate from Table A4-1 or A4-2.
