“LET THE CHILDREN COME TO ME!”– Mt 10:14
Children’s Liturgy of the Wordhas begun at St. Columbkille!
Children’s Liturgy of the Word(CLOW)willbeheldduringthe10:30MasseverySunday for all children4-8 years old. This is a greatopportunity for the children of ourparish to attendSundayMasswiththeirfamiliesbut,atthesametime,
hear theWord of God in a way they canmore easilyunderstand.
CLOWtakesplaceduringMass inaplaceseparatefrom,butnearby,themainassembly.EveryonegatherstogetherinchurchforthebeginningofMass,then, justafter the Collect (Opening Prayer), the congregationdivides.Thepriest invites thechildrentocomeforwardtolistentoGod’sWord.TheadultCLOWleadercomesforward, aswell, and is given a blessing by the priestbefore leading thechildren to thechurchbasement fora separate Liturgy of the Word adapted for children.TheLiturgyoftheWordcontinuesasusualforthemainassemblywhilesimultaneously, theLiturgyof theWordfor Children takes place in the church basement! ThechildrenreturntothemainassemblyaftertheUniversalPrayer (Petitions)andremainwith their families for theLiturgyoftheEucharistandtheconclusionofMass.
Having CLOW at our regularSundayMassenableschildrentohearGod’sWordandrespondtoitinamannerappropriatetotheirageandunderstanding.It ispartofthe regular SundayMass, adapted to the abilities andneedsofchildren.Itisnotachild-careprogram,norisitanartsandcraftssessionintendedtokeepyoungpeoplebusy while the adults are at Mass. It is an authenticcelebrationofthesame,butadapted,LiturgyoftheWordthattheadultcommunityexperiences.
There is no fee, sign-up or registration for CLOW.Quitesimply,whenchildrenareatthe10:30Mass,theyshould come forward when invited by the priest, andfollowtheCLOWleadertothechurchbasement.
