ADDICTION
Meagan Riggs
Defining and Understanding
How is Addiction Defined? the state of being enslaved to a habit or
practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, as narcotics, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma.
What can we be addicted to? Just about anything that can be
repeated. People can have a physical addiction—like a dependence to a substance—or a psychological addiction which deals with actions that one needs to repeat.

Confusion with Obsession Many people misuse the two terms
addiction and obsession.Obsession pertains more to living beings.Addiction pertains more towards substance
dependencies or actions. Those addicted feel the need of a certain
substance/action to live life. Those obsessed can live without it, but can’t
stay away from their obsessions.
Has the term changed?
The way the term addiction is defined may be said differently, but overall it has the same meaning it always has. With slight variations of subcategories.
