Tackling Poverty

My goal is to tackle extreme poverty and hunger. In my opinion, this is the most important out of all of the MDGs. People are dying and suffering. And for what? There is plenty we can do to make poverty history once and for all. But we need to act NOW.

The most obvious approach of tackling poverty is to increase the number of jobs available, although it’s easier said than done. The main reason for lack of jobs in England, is other people (foreigners) coming into our country, getting a job and taking money out. Of course, I don’t blame them. You would do the same if it meant that your family could live comfortably with plenty of food and a nice warm home. But some of those people have become greedy and want more than they need. Even though they have enough money to buy their own house, they are still taking more and more money out of the country. And that is one of the main causes of the recession. Greed. Tackling greed will not only put an end to the recession, but it will build a foundation to work on to go about ending poverty.

At this moment in time, the recession is causing people to become greedier and greedier. Not just people. Companies too. Take a look in your local supermarket. Compare the prices to what they were 5 years ago. They are constantly rising. It’s the same with gas, electricity, taxes, transport – practically everything is increasing in price.

Unfortunately, that won’t do it.

Poverty and lack of education go hand in hand. An additional solution is to build a new path for future generations by offering better education for everyone. Building schools in the main areas of poverty will kill two birds with one stone. It will produce job opportunities and give people hope as well as educating them.

My idea is to deduct the value of everything. Bring down the prices of food, homes and transport. This way, people will be able to afford to actually live. It sounds ridiculous, but what other way is there? People are dying just for living in a country. It’s despicable and it needs to stop now. The only downside is that the people who work harder will not be as rewarded for their troubles. But with the decrease in prices, people will be more willing to donate and together we will be able to help build homes and schools in poor countries like Africa. I’d say it’s worth it, if it was up to me I’d jump at the chance to go ahead with this plan any day of the week. We need to do something. This plan is very drastic, but there’s not really much else anyone can do. It needs to stop.

Together we can end poverty.
