VMM | My tip’s

• Dedicate time to DESIGN your solution. The better time you spent in design the better the implementation will be.

• Use the right number of NIC’s. I do recommend the use of converged networks

• Check the Network Configuration and create standard names across ALL Hosts.

VMM | Transform Your Data Center into a Private Cloud

STORAGE

Discover, classify, and allocate storage for use by the private cloud. Provide the correct storage for use with appropriate access.

COMPUTE

Deploy your compute resources, taking them from bare metal to fully deployed for your physical and virtualization hosts.

NETWORK

Abstract your complex networking infrastructure into logical networks for cloud use. Assign IP, virtual IP, and MAC addresses from pools and integrate with load balancers.

CLUSTER

Consolidate your fabric elements for use in a private cloud.

VMM | Managing Multiple Hypervisors

VMM | Xenservers : What is not supported?• VMM does not support the host-to-host migration of

stopped virtual machines (LAN migration) between XenServer and other hosts

• Update management through VMM is not supported for XenServer hosts. You must use your existing solution to update XenServer hosts

• The conversion of a bare-metal computer to a virtual machine host, and cluster creation through VMM is not supported with XenServer

VMM | My tipsAdding Host / Troubleshooting

• Ping / DNS

• Verify Supplement Pack• winrm enum http://schemas.citrix.com/wbem/wscim/1/cim-schema/2/Xen_HostComputerSystem -r:https://<HOSTNAME>:5989 -encoding:utf-8 -a:basic -u:<ROOT USER> -p:<PASSWORD> -skipcacheck –skipcncheck

VMM | Supported VMware

• vCenter 4.1, 5.0, 5.1 (VMM 2012 SP1)• ESX 4.1• ESXi 4.1, 5.0, 5.1

VMM | Vmware : What is not supported?• Update management through VMM is not supported

for ESX hosts. You must use your existing solution to update VMware ESX hosts

• The conversion of a bare-metal computer to a virtual machine host, and cluster creation through VMM is not supported for ESX hosts

• The Dynamic Memory feature is not supported on ESX hosts. Dynamic Memory is only supported on Hyper-V hosts that are running an operating system that supports Dynamic Memory

VMM | Utilize Storage More Effectively

END-TO-END MAPPING

Create associations between storage and VM through reconciling data from Hyper-V and storage arrays

Identify storage consumed by VM, host, and cluster

CAPACITY MANAGEMENT

RAPID PROVISIONING

Add storage to a host or cluster through masking operations, initialization, partitioning, formatting, and CSV cluster resource creation

Add storage capacity during new cluster creation

Create new VMs leveraging the SAN to copy the VHD

Utilize SMI-S copy services and replication profiles

Deploy to host or cluster at scale

High-performance storage on industry-standard hardware.

Less expensive, enterprise-class storage solution

Continuous application availability and robust recovery.

Guaranteed high levels of Service Level Agreement (SLA)

Comprehensive storage management and backup.

Efficient management of storage resources

Storage spaces for inbox storage virtualization with automatic tiering

RDMA hardware offloading significantly improving scale for SMB traffic

SMB transparent failover for < 25ms failover time

Fine-grained, per-share SMB scale-out

VMM | High-performance live migration

Accelerate live migration performance with compression or RDMA-capable network adapters

For <10GBit network connectivity, live migration compression delivers superior performance – 2x acceleration for most workloads

For >10GBit networks, Remote direct memory access (RDMA) offload delivers the highest performance with low CPU utilization and transfer speeds of up to 56Gb/s

Windows Server 2012 R2 supports RoCE, iWARP and Infiniband RDMA solutions

Operations Manager | App Monitoring

Operations Manager | Where is the issue?

Application performance monitoring pinpoints exactly where the issue is, reducing the mean time to resolution

Server-side monitoring shows the application is functioning

“My application is running slowly!”

“The code passed all testing.”

“The network looks good.”

“The servers are running fine.”

Client-side, however, shows there is a problem..
