PRODUCT INFORMATION

Our Pin and Barrel Hinge stainless steel, 300 and 3500 Seriesand cold rolled steel 3700 Series are UL listed.

Our stainless and steel continuous hinges distribute shockforces evenly so wear and tear to the frame and door isreduced significantly. Security is enhanced by preventinginsertion of devices between the door and frame thus reducingvandalism. The continuous design allows for easy alignmentof electrical transfers and monitoring switches. These hingesalso aid in stopping air infiltration by creating a complete sealfrom top to bottom of the door at the hinge stile.

The Pin and Barrel Hinge is held together with a 1/4" stainlesssteel Teflon coated rod free moving rod. The hinge works ona split bearing assembly which eliminates premature wear andguarantees proper alignment.

The Pin and Barrel Hinge acts as reinforcement for both doorand frame. For the majority of our hinges, special hingereinforcements are not required. However door and framemanufacturers standard is acceptable and removal of hingereinforcements in the door and frame is not advised. Whenusing our HG models HG-305, HG-310, HG-322, HG-326and HG3505 in a hollow metal door application, we stronglysuggest reinforcement at the lock side of the door for properuse of the AdjustaScrews™ assembly. This addedreinforcement will ensure the proper amount of material forthreading the Adjusta-Screw, giving the assembly the strengthneeded to last the life of the opening. It is important to notethat these added reinforcements must be added to the door at time of manufacture. Please be sure to take this intoconsideration when ordering your doors. Again, thisreinforcement applies only to the Adjusta-Screw assembly and is not needed for any other hardware application.

MOUNTING HARDWARE

To prevent warping of the door along the hinge jamb, screwsare located along the full length of the hinge. The templatedhole pattern makes these hinges are ideal for use on center-hung lead lined doors – Lead Line covers are available forsurface mount units.

Our AdjustaScrews™ fastener available on the Hinge Guardmodels permits up to 3/8” width adjustment. Full door lengthadjustment can means doors can be squared accurately andeasily in new installations and existing frames can be used inretrofits. Future adjustments can be made by the Maintenancestaff by re-positioning the Adjusta-Screw fasteners.

Hinges may be field cut per installation instructions.

FINISHES

The 300 and 3500 Series stainless hinges are supplied as astandard in brushed satin finish US-32D (630) and areavailable in brite stainless US-32 (629). The 3700 series steelhinges are supplied in Gray Powder Coat finish. Consult thefactory for availability of custom finishes.

2. Determine the amount that the hinge needs to beshortened. Note the hand of the hinge before begining tolay out your cut. All cuts will be done at the bottom ofyour hinge assembly making sure to leave the gang holepattern at the top.

3. Measure from the top down and scribe a cut line on yourleaf at the desired length.

4. Cut the hinge to length with a hacksaw, going through theleafs, barrel and pin. If necessary, use a file to removesharp edges and deburr.

5. Slide the stainless steel pin out approximately 1" makingsure the assembly stays together as one unit. Remove 1/4"from the end of the pin using a hacksaw and then pushback into it's original position.

6. Using a pair of vice-grips, crimp the end of the steel barrelmaking sure the hinge pin will not slide out.

PREVENTING MORTAR FROM BREAKING DRILLS AND TAPS

Preventing mortar from breaking drills and tapsOne way to ease installation of continuous hinges in the field on new construction projects is to coordinate with the anchoringand hollow metal supplier prior to frame installation, by placing a 1/4" or 3/8" strip of expanded polystyrene insulation on theback of the hollow metal frame as shown below. When the frames are grouted in, the foam backer will allow drilling andtapping without dulling or breaking the installers bits.
