Case Study Report——MIS IN YOUR POCKET
Q1: The case study described kinds of applications which are Web browser,
telephone, camera, music, video player, e-mail, calendar, and messaging machine for
IPhone. It also introduced other applications which are Web conferencing, word
processing, spreadsheets, and electronic presentations for iPad. They support many
business functions and they also help improve operational efficiency and decision
making. For example, with using IPhone 3G and times-sensitive email, MEDITECH
electronic medical records system, medical reference applications, and Web-based
medical records applications, Doylestown Hospital’s all people can get information
conveniently to have effective management, have good communication and have
immediately treatment. For D.W. Morgan, it developed ChainLinq Mobile application
to help them make correct decision and improve work efficiency. TCHO use IPhone
app to control machines. Through control time, temperature and machine’s switch,
TCHO achieved effective management and ensured the quality of products. The
employees used IPhone to share information and have communication. And Apple
iPad has more business functions such as Web-based note-taking. File sharing, word
processing, and number-crunching.
Q2: The mobile digital devices helped these companies solve many problems. For
example, with using IPhone, Doylestown Hospital’s doctors receive time-sensitive e-
mail alerts from the hospital and to be on call wherever they are so that they can have
immediately treatment. Doctors also access to the hospital’s MEDITECH electronic
medical records system in any location; thus, it solved a lack of information. Doctors
could use IPhone to get useful information quickly and conveniently. IPhone is also
helpful to patients. Patients were told about lab results and obtain medication
information through medical reference application by doctors. ChainLinq Mobile
which was developed by D.W. Morgan. This company used updating shipment
information, collecting signatures and providing global positioning system tracking on
each box to make the data available to customers on the company’s Web site. TCHO
use IPhone app to remotely log into each machines and control their time and
temperature. It also helped worker view video cameras to show the FlavorLab.
Therefore, workers didn’t need watch the machines all the time.
Q3: Mobile digital devices made a big revolution in business. Most companies have
already equipped IPhone, and iPad or other mobile digital devices for their
employees. In fact, mobile digital devices have a lot of benefits for every industry or
business, such as manufacturing business-TCOH company, logistics industry-
D.W.Morgan, clothing industry-Calvin Klein, advertising, and Born-on-the-web
Company-Facebook.
Q4: The IPhone absolutely makes many amazing changes in industry. It makes
everything more flexible and effective. For example, in manufacturing business like
TCHO Company, IPhone can control machines remotely and show how the FlavorLab
is doing. If TCHO didn’t use IPhone like before, many workers must watch the
machines all the time and control machines by themselves. This situation can’t give
TCHO more benefits. By using IPhone, the volume of production and the quality of
production will be improved. Logistics industry has huge changes with using IPhone.
Customers can track their packages through IPhone on the company’s Web site.
Suppliers can use IPhone to know the location of delivery trucks and make trades. All
of information will share through IPhone to achieve interaction. Clothing industry has
many changes by using iPhone as well. New style of clothes will show on the Web
site. Customers can scan and buy clothes through IPhone. The clothing company also
uses IPhone to order materials from suppliers. Some store will send some email to
customers showing new arrivals. Sarah Sorensen said, “A good mobile policy can also
deliver other tangible business benefits, such as creating a more flexible work
environment that ensures employees can remain connected and productive from
wherever they are. A Polling Company study found that employees valued the ability
to work remotely more than stock options and onsite child care.”(Forbes) Through
these examples, we can see the IPhone exactly influence industry and interact
customers and suppliers.
