Zane started off his freshman year and running his first 5K with a 23rd place finish at the Live Oak Classic in Waco. Zane then ran at the Belton High School Invitational posting a faster time but stiffer competition finishing 26th. The next meet would be at Valley Mills High School where Zane was finally getting accustomed to the 5K distance and finished 8th and another personal best. Zane would them run 2 days later at the Westfest Kolache 5K and win the 13-18 age division and 5th overall also low- ering his personal best. MCC FOUNDATION AWARDS $498,650 IN SCHOLARSHIPS The McLennan Community College Foundation honored scholarship students and donors at the Scholar, Donor, and Alumni Appreciation Luncheon Sept. 10 at MCC. The Foundation awarded $498,650 in student scholarships to almost 500 students for the 2019-2020 academic year. Pictured is a group of scholarship recipients with a check representing the generous contributions of MCC supporters. The event also featured an inspiring keynote address by Mary Perez, senior associate for Texas Life Insurance Company and the 2016 McLennan Distinguished Alumnae awardee. The Foundation’s scholarship application period for the 2020-2021 academic year will open Oct. 1 at www.mclennan.edu/foundation/scholarships U.S. Air Force Airman Erica D. Maye graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week pro- gram that included training in military discipline and stud- ies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associ- ate in applied science degree through the Community Col- lege of the Air Force. Maye is the daughter of Shasheena L.
