August 20, 1892 McDonald OutlookA telegram from Burgettstown Thursday morning announces the death of J. W. AIKIN, aprominent lumber merchant of that place. He was aged about 45 years and leaves a wife andtwo children.

The body has been brought to thehome of her aunt, Mrs. ___nie MCDOWELL of this place, and the funeral services will be heldhere Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock. The interment will be at Imperial. Miss ANDREWS was born___ but moved wth her father William ANDREWS to Ohio several years ago. Lately she hadbeen residing at Carnegie. Her father survives.

July 23, 1892 McDonald RecordA sad accident occurred at the McDonald depot last Sunday afternoon by which a man

named ANTONOVSKI, living at Willow Grove, was killed. He was waiting at the depot with thebody of a child of his who had died the day before, intending to take it away on the train whenhe noticed an east bound freight approaching at a high rate of speed, and fearing apparentlythat the little coffin containing the remains projected too far over onto the track, ran to pull itback. But he was not quick enough in getting away and the train hit him, knocking him abouttwenty feet and injuring him so that he died in a few moments. His wife and little girl standingby were terribly affected at being thus doubly afflicted. ANTONOVSKI was a Hungarian andworked in the Willow Grove mine.

July 9, 1892 McDonald PA OutlookOn Saturday last, Wm. ARMSTRONG, a driller at the Moorhead No. 2, while filling some

torches with oil, was severely burned about the breast and face by the oil taking fire andexploding. He was removed to the Caldwell House, McDonald, where he died Sunday evening.ARMSTRONG was about 22 years old, and lived with his parents near Cecil.

Canonsburg, which took place on Saturday night, the 9th inst., at Mercy Hospital, Pittsburg.The disease which took his life was pneumonia, from which he suffered for about three weeks.David was born about 45 years ago in Allegheny county. When quite young, his mother, whowas a sister of the late Cornelius BORLAND, died. Soon after this his father, the late DavidBROWN, move to the farm (in) Mt. Pleasant township on which M. B. BROWN now resides. HerDavid was brought up, working on the farm in summer and attending the district school inwinter. During the winter of '59 and '60 he was a pupil in the school taught by the writer. Hewas bright, manly, generous, and very fond of fun, which, we believe, were characteristic ofduring life. Not being enamored of farm life, he set about preparing himself for a professionallife.

He attended Monmouth College at Monmouth, Ill., and graduated from that institutionin the class of 1837. He afterward took a course in the law school of Harvard, where he studiedand was admitted to the practice of law at Washington. For a time he was with the late W. O.CRAWFORD, Esq., of Pittsburg bar; then for a while he was associated with L. MCCARRELL, Esq.,of the Washington bar, but for several years past he was located at Canonsburg, where heenjoyed quite an extensive practice. He took great interest in the politics of his day, and wasprominent in the Democratic party in this county. He was that party's candidate four or fiveyears ago for district attorney, but was defeated. He was popular and successful as a stumpspeaker, and his voice was often heard during the recent campaigns in behalf of Democracy andits candidates.

During the late non-partisan amendment campaign in this State, although he was aDemocrat, he made numerous speeches in behalf of the Prohibition amendment. He believedProhibition would promote public welfare and thereby temptation to intemperance would be ina great measure be removed from the young and rising generation. His voice will no more beheard hear, for the shaft of Death has struck him, and ... He leaves two brothers and ...

The funeral services were on Tuesday and the interment at the HillCemetery.

Deceased was a member of the McDonald U. P. Church and all his life had been a goodcitizen and a model neighbor to all who lived near him. Last fall he and his wife and son movedfrom their McDonald street homestead to Midway to get away from the danger of fire and thenoise and turmoil of the oil field. For more than a year Mr. BURGETT had not seemed to bewell, a kind of paralysis gradually creeping over him.

home on Friday, of paralysis, in his 75th year. Mr. CHERRY was sick but about two weeks and hisdeath was unexpected. The deceased was an uncle of Commissioner John E. STEWART andSheriff CHERRY.

pneumonia coming from grip. He was in his 72d year, and leaves a wife, four sons and twodaughters to more their loss. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. G. M. KERR. Theremains were taken to the Washington cemetery for interment.

January 2, 1892 Robinson Valley Outlook - McDonald , PAA. F. DOWNING, brother of J. D. DOWNING, the well known oil operator of

McDonald was instantly killed by an explosion of nitroglycerine while shooting a well at Archer’sFork, O. The glycerine was in a barrel and was exploded by the concussion of a stone thrownagainst it. Mr. DOWNING’s head was cut clean in two at the line of the eyes.

Funeral on Thursday, interment at Hill cemetery. Mr. EWING was one of McDonald’soldest citizens, and was well known through out this part of the country as a stonemason. Helived in his house on Third street until a few weeks ago, when was taken seriously ill and he wasremoved to a Pittsburgh hospital. He leaves a wife, a son, John EWING, Jr., living in Pittsburg,and a daughter, Mrs. STEVENSON of Noblestown street.

January 23, 1892Guernsey, Ohio, Times-The death of Captain FARRAR, which occurred Monday evening, January11, 1892, will no doubt be a surprise to many of our readers; but it has been anticipated by hisimmediate friends, who alone have understood the serious character of his malady. His deathwas caused by uremic poisoning, resulting from chronic affection of the bladder, from which hehas been a sufferer more or less seriously since his exposure in camp.

William McFarren FARRAR was the third of the nine children of Samuel FARRAR and JaneSIMONTON, and was born in Washington county, Pa., September 3, 1824. His father was theson of Andrew FARRAR and Margaret MOORE, who had seven sons and three daughters all ofwhom leave married sons and daughters. His mother was the daughter of Peter SIMONTONand Margaret MCFARREN.

His ancestors on both sides were remarkable for the amount of Scotch-Irish and Puritanblood in their veins, for their high personal character, great patriotism and deep and sternreligious convictions. Their history is almost the history of the Presbyterian church in WesternPennsylvania. In eluding to his early history the names of the MCCURDYs, MCFARRENs,MCCRACKENs, MCDOWELLs, MCCREADYs, MCEWENs, and the like, indicative of their originsand character, are common.

Mr. FARRAR served through the war as captain of Co. H. 65th O. V. I., and attached to thestaff of General ROSECRANS, together with General GARFIELD, the latter’s chief of staff, andGeneral SWAIM, at present judge advocate general of the United States. The three becamewarm personal friends; and SWAIM and FARRAR were both tendered choice of positions byPresident GARFIELD.

Mr. Sym. FARRAR, of Midway, is a brother of Capt. FARRAR.

neuralgia of the heart, aged 72 years. He leaves a wife, who is in a critical condition withparalysis, and seved (sic) children. The funeral took place Sunday, interment at Clinton,Allegheny county. The deceased was a bother of Thomas FORSYTH of Canonsburg, and thefather of Thomas FORSYTH, merchant tailor of McDonald.

January 1892A two-year-old son of Aime FOUCAR, of Belgian Hill, died Wednesday of croup. This is the thirdchild that has died in that family in the last few months.

November 17, 1894 McDonald, PA OutlookOn the 12th inst., at his home in McDonald, Mr. James PRYOR, aged about 78 years. Deceasedhad been a paralytic for several years. He was the oldest miller in the country. He worked inthe old North Branch mill over half a century ago. His aged wife survives him. The funeral wason Monday. Interment at Arlington. Mrs. PRYOR has gone to live with a nephew namedCULLIN in Allegheny.

GRAHAMhad just stepped off the eastbound train and was crossing the next track when the work trainapproached and ran him down. The deceased man lived at Franklin with his parents and sisters.

McDonald OutlookRev. John M. HASTINGS died at his home in Westchester, Pa., on Friday of last week. He was aPresbyterian minister, and also a teacher, he having for many years, in company with hisbrother, Fulton HASTINGS, conducted an academy at Wilkinsburg. His mother was a sister ofthe late Dr. John MCCLUSKEY, of Henry MCCLUSKEY and of Mrs. James HERRIOTT. His wife wasa sister of the late John N. MCDONALD, of this place.

February 6, 1892 McDonald PA OutlookMostly ripped away:Apparently the mother of Mrs. HAWLEY also died, her last name was SMITH, and it looks

as though the first name might have been Sarah. She was buried at Burgettstown. She is listedas mother-in-law of Mr. John B. HAWLEY, who is listed as deceased in the next obit. Could hehave also died at this time? (From another issue, Mr. HAWLEY's death apparently occurredsometime in January 1892.)

On February 2d, after a very brief illness-- pneumonia and nervous prostration --Mrs.Mary HAWLEY, widow of the deceased John B. HAWLEY and daughter of Mrs. SMITH, died. Theinterment was at Burgettstown.

This family in the fall moved from one of Miss Maggie LINDSEY's home on Barr street toBurgettstown. Mr. HAWLEY was a section boss on the railroad at Burgettstown. J. A. SMITH,section boss this place is a son of the deceased Mrs. SMITH. Another son is W. W. SMITH,married and living in Mansfield, and a railroad man. O. W. SMITH married and living atDinsmore and a section boss is a son of Mrs. SMITH.

Mrs. SMITH was a native of Carroll county, O. Her husband, John M. SMITH, died her inMcDonald about four years ago. He was formerly well known as a stage driver betweenPittsburg and Steubenville. The family has lived hereabouts for at least 20 years and all of itsmembers are much respected.

A host of friends sympathize with those of them who are left to morn such extraordinaryloss.

Ms. GOULD, of Steubenville, an elderly lady, as sister of Mrs. SMITH, while attending thefuneral of Mrs. HAWLEY, fell on the ice and had an arm broken.

January 16, 1892 McDonald PA OutlookAt Mansfield, on Jan. 12, Mrs. Michael HERRON. Deceased was the wife of Mr. MichaelHERRON, formerly of Barr street, and well-know to all McDonald people. Last spring a child ofthis family was burnt to death in a Laurel Hill coke oven.

Mrs. HERRON on Monday morning started to attend a funeral, and while waling on therailroad track slipped and fell and received the injuries from which she afterwards died, givingpremature birth to a child.

Both legs and one arm were cut off. The remains were brought to his father’shouse on Wednesday and the funeral was on Thursday. Services were held at the PresbyterianChurch to which place the corpse was taken, and the interment was at the Arlington Cemetery.

embolism or a blood clot on the brain. *The last name was spelled differently in the two articles.

May 1892The death of Capt. William JOHNSTON, of general debility, occurred at the family residence inMt. Pleasant township on Friday morning, May 6. Mr. JOHNSTON was one of the oldest citizensin the county, being ninety-two years of age at the time of his death.

Mr. JOHNSTON was widely known for more than half a century in the northern part ofthe county as a man of unusual enterprise and public spirit. In early life he was a pioneer in thefar west and was on the frontier at the time of the Black Hawk war where he met with AbrahamLINCOLN who was a captain of Illinois volunteers. Captain JOHNSTON married Miss MaryMCCLAIN, who was one of the MCCLAINE (sic) family that lived near the County Home. Mrs.JOHNSTON still lives and among the earliest recollections of the writer are the motherlyattentions of this good woman to those who had no mother.

“JOHNSTON”, as his admiring neighbors were wont to call the deceased, was a manlyman. In religion he was a Covenanter and attended Rev. Wm. SLATER’s Church until theoutbreak of the war, when he went to the United Presbyterians that he might vote for everymeasure against slavery. In courage he was a match for “Old John Brown” any day. Thos whoknew him know that he would without a doubt have undauntedly faced and fought Milton’sPersonal Devil himself. He was full of fun and at “raisings” and fall “butcherings” he was alwaysthe leading man.

His family consists of Martha, wife of John P. MCCONNELL; Darlington, married and witha family living at the homestead; Jane, wife of Samuel WILLISON; Robert, a resident of Beavercounty, whose wife recently died and left him with a large family.

Alice had been ill for sometime with brain fever, but was thought to be on the road torecovery when a relapse occurred, resulting in her death. Alice was an uncommonly bright andinteresting little girl, and the parents have the sympathy of the entire community in being thusdeprived of their beloved daughter. The funeral took place on Friday, the interment atWaynesville, O., the funeral party leaving on the 10 am west bound express.

August 1892 McDonald OutlookMichael KELLY, an employee of the Panhandle Railroad, was instantly killed at Dinsmore lastSaturday. While getting out of the road of one train he stepped in the way of another and wasthrown with great force upon his head crushing his skull. He was buried at Noblestown.

The father at the present time is in the employ of the Standard Oil Company on theisland of Borneo where he went about a year ago after leaving Mexico on account of thedisturbed conditions there. On the ___ Miss KIGHTLINGER was taken ill she planned to leavefor Clarion where she had accepted a position as a n___. She also expected to meet her fatherin Paris when he returned from Borneo. The mother, Mrs. Martha KIGHTLINGER, a sister andtwo brothers survive and reside in Oakdale.

August 20, 1892 McDonald OutlookThomas F. LEWIS, one of McDonald's best known citizens, died at his home on the South Side,at 2 a.m., Tuesday morning, the 16th. He was a native of Wales and was brought toYoungstown, O., when two years old by his parents. Almost seventeen years ago he came toMidway, where he lived for one year, and since that time he has lived in McDonald. Haulingwas his business, he and his boys running three or four teams. His wife died about nine yearsago. His children were Mrs. Martha O'NEILL, deceased; Sarah Ann, wife of Mr. George GRIMES,of North avenue; Mary Jane, Mrs. Alexander PLANCE; Henry; Margaret HARSHALL, married andliving at Canton, O.; Lizzie, Mrs. Oscar WHITSON; Thomas, Benjamin and Ida.

Mr. LEWIS has been quite an invalid for over a year, during which time he was notactively engaged in business but spent his time superintending and advising his boys as to theirwork. He was a good business man and accumulated some property, all of which was earnedby hard work. Among the people he was familiarly known as "Dad" LEWIS, a name he seemedto have acquired by reason of his quaint humor and the interest he manifested in the welfare ofhis friends and neighbors, being ready with good advice and old maxims for any one he noticedstraying to any extent from the course common sense dictated. He was 63 years old on thethird of last April. Deceased had probably not an enemy in the world. The funeral was onWednesday at 2 p.m.

On the 4th inst. at her home in West Middletown, of typhoid fever, after an illness ofthree weeks, Mrs. Maude E., wife of Mr. Frank LIGGETT, and daughter of Robert MARTIN, ofBarr street McDonald, aged 20 years and one month.

The untimely death of this only child of Mr. and Mrs. MARTIN has occasioned muchsurprise and great grief among many friends and relatives. The husband and parents have thesympathy of all who know them. Deceased was a member of the McDonald Presbyterianchurch. No children were left in this family. The funeral is on Friday. Interment at Middletown.

SMITH, who after viewing the body and hearingtestimony rendered a verdict that he came to his death by suffocation caused by falling in sucha position that he could not get his breath, while intoxicated. November 17, 1894 McDonald, PA OutlookThursday of last week a three-year-old daughter of Alexander MCDONALD, of Station street,was burned to death in her room above stairs. It is not known just how the dreadful occurrencecame about. Such a tragedy will call about the unhappy parents a multitude of friends toencompass them with a world of sympathy. The funeral was on Sunday.

Hon. John N. MCDONALD will always be remembered by the people of the town that wasnamed after him. He died May 23d, 1889, at the homestead where he was born, where he hadalways lived, and where his father had been born and lived and died. It is not our purpose hereto write of him, but simply to place before our readers the strong, but kindly face that allremember so well. His life and character have often been described in the public prints andthey are indelibly written in the hearts of ten thousand people.

The Outlook of May __, 1889, contained the following: Thursday morning going to theiraccustomed places of business, people were shocked by the sad news that Hon. John N.MCDONALD had died at 6 a.m. He had been seriously ill for about two months, enduring withremarkable patience and resignation all his suffering and weakness. The grief of the people ofMcDonald at the death of this universally respected and kind hearted man of means, influenceand ability and readiness to do good whenever an opportunity offered, will be deep and lasting.Many a family will remember his cheering and helpful visits to them when in need and distress,and will most sincerely mourn his departure. His place in society, in the church and amongthose who help forward the cause of humanity can not be filled, and more time is needed thanis at present at the disposal of any of us to properly describe and record his many good traits ofhead and heart.

John N. MCDONALD was born at the homestead where he died, Feb. 10th, 1820. Of hisearly life we can not now speak. It will be recalled as a model one by many of his early friendsin this vicinity who survive him. He was married Oct. 29, 1862, to Miss Elizabeth Mary LEE,daughter of Major William LEE, of Cross Creek, this county. He served in the legislatures of1853 and 1858 as a representative of Washington County. He was also a delegate to the Union

State Convention in 1856, a representative delegate in the convention of 1868, a senatorialdelegate in 1876, and again a representative delegate in the conventions of 1880 and 1884.

For many years he has been a member of the Board of Trustees of Washington andJefferson College; and of his efficiency as a school director in this district, of the work he hasdone for the Presbyterian Church of this place, and his interest in the cause of education andreligion generally, all are aware. It would require a volume to record all that he has done inthese directions.

July 9, 1892 McDonald PA OutlookTuesday evening, at Walker's Mills, two intoxicated men, John MCGUIRE, a coal miner,

and Charles SHANNON, a quarryman, engaged in a sparring match and MCGUIRE was knockedover a barrel and died in a few minutes. Whether it was a fight or a friendly boxing match isuncertain. SHANNON was lodged in jail in Pittsburg to await the action of a coroner's jury andpossibly that of a grand jury and a petit jury to try him for murder.

February 6, 1892 McDonald PA OutlookDavid MCKEESICK, a tool dresser who boarded at John HOPE's, near Millers Crossing, was

killed this side of Rend's tipple by the west-bound Wheeling express Saturday night. Wascoming to town to get some paper to write letters. $27 was found on the body. One of hissisters is the wife of S. P. HUNT, a Washington liveryman. The railroad company ought to putup sign boards down there reading, "A man killed here nearly every day. Keep off the tracks."

was a Catholic and he was buried by some American Mechanics in the Catholic burying ground,a Presbyterian, Rev. Mr. HILL, conducting services at the house and the grave. On account ofthese proceeding there is much dissatisfaction all around, and the body was ordered to beremoved by the cemetery authorities. Deceased was a son of Major MERRIMAN, ofCanonsburg.

He leaves a wifeand three little children to mourn him.

Mrs. MILLER was a daughter of Mr. Thomas TRIMMER, of North avenue, and had beenmarried only a short time. Mr. MILLER, her husband, is a well-known employee of the RoyalGas Company. The lady’s sudden and untimely death is a great shock to her large circle offriends.

lady, was found dead, with a bullet in her head, in her father’s barn. She had gone there for achicken. She took the revolver but did not shoot it. It has been caught alive, its head was cutoff, and it was lying beside her. The revolver with three empty barrels was near. The ballentering the head ha been fired from a distance, there being no powder marks. It is believedthat some Hungarians working nearby had been fired at by her three times in return for someinsult offered and that they returned the fire and killed her.

Miss ORAM, at her death, still owned the hundred-acre ORAM homestead in Cecil whereshe was born and raised and where Walker MITCHELL now lives. The coal under the place shehad ... for $5,000. Several houses and ... Canonsburg and several thousand dollars at interest,which she inherit ... also belongs to the estate ... the estate is said to be worth .... and MissORAM having no next of kin its probable a large portion ... go to the Boards of the ... Church.

Peter PLANO, an Italian miner about 35 years old, who came to this country about threeyears ago was killed by a train near the West End turn table Monday evening. He and a friend,Vincent SERENO had gone up there from where they “kept batch” in a small building east of theBess corner, to see some friends, and coming home PLANO was caught by a train. One leg wascut off near the ankle and the other crushed near the same place, his head was crushed in, andthere were wounds elsewhere about the neck and breast. He was brought to the Rodgers &Giffin undertaking rooms where the body was cared for till Coroner JOHNSTON could arrive. Ajury—Jas. BROWN, Clyde ROBB, Chas. SOULERET, Jacob HIRSHINGER, J. C. RODGERS, J. B.ARGYLE found a verdict in accordance with the facts.

Deceased had $1.85 on his person, and in his trunk was found $285.00. CoronerJOHNSTON took possession of this property and an administrator will probably be appointed tosend what remains after expenses are paid to PLANO’s mother in Italy.

Her maiden name was ALLISON and she was a sister of Messrs. Archibald andEbenezer ALLISON, who live six miles west of Washington, and of James ALLISON, who lives inNebraska.

He had a greatrecord as a soldier in the late war, lost a leg in the service, and was a heroic sort of fellowwhenever duty called him to the front in any walk in life. And so this old comrade is “DEAD”. Aman is here; and then he is not here; that is, he is dead. At work today; gone tomorrow. Andthe best of us leave but little more mark behind us than is seen when one puts his finger into

the ocean and withdraws it. It that so? Not quiet. The good that we do lives after us in this life;and the evil too, but not so long, we know; for good must overcome evil.

Sometime between June 15 and July 4, 1892 McDonald OutlookRobert SIMPSON of Noblestown, an old soldier and aged 56 years, died last week. He

was buried at Robinson Run cemetery. Capt. Thomas ESPY Post had charge of the funeral.*Page was very damaged, dates missing

February 6, 1892 McDonald PA OutlookMostly ripped away: Apparently the mother of Mrs. HAWLEY also died, her last name

was SMITH, and it looks as though the first name might have been Sarah. She was buried atBurgettstown. She is listed as mother-in-law of Mr. John B. HAWLEY, who is listed as deceasedin the next obit. Could he have also died at this time? (From another issue, Mr. HAWLEY'sdeath apparently occurred sometime in January 1892.)

On February 2d, after a very brief illness-- pneumonia and nervous prostration --Mrs.Mary HAWLEY, widow of the deceased John B. HAWLEY and daughter of Mrs. SMITH, died. Theinterment was at Burgettstown.

This family in the fall moved from one of Miss Maggie LINDSEY's home on Barr street toBurgettstown. Mr. HAWLEY was a section boss on the railroad at Burgettstown. J. A. SMITH,section boss this place is a son of the deceased Mrs. SMITH. Another son is W. W. SMITH,married and living in Mansfield, and a railroad man. O. W. SMITH married and living atDinsmore and a section boss is a son of Mrs. SMITH.

Mrs. SMITH was a native of Carroll county, O. Her husband, John M. SMITH, died her inMcDonald about four years ago. He was formerly well known as a stage driver betweenPittsburg and Steubenville. The family has lived hereabouts for at least 20 years and all of itsmembers are much respected.

A host of friends sympathize with those of them who are left to morn such extraordinaryloss.

Ms. GOULD, of Steubenville, an elderly lady, as sister of Mrs. SMITH, while attending thefuneral of Mrs. HAWLEY, fell on the ice and had an arm broken.

DIED—At his home near Willow Grove Station, Allegheny county, Pa., on Sabbath May 1, 1902at * o’clock p.m. Samuel STURGEON, Sr., aged ** years.

Mr. STURGEON was born near Oxford, Adams Co., Pa., March * th, 1800, and removed with hisparents, in the year 180*, to the farm on which he died. He resided on the same farm, and inthe same house, for a period of ** years. He was the youngest brother of the Hon. WilliamSTURGEON, and the last survivor of a family of ten persons. Mr. STURGEON never married butresided with his parents, and at their death inherited the old homestead. He was an honestand industrious farmer, a consistent member of the Raccoon congregation, Candor,Washington county and regular in attendance upon divine worship although he had to ride sixmiles over a bad road, and often when the weather was inclement. After the organization ofthe McDonald church he transferred his membership to it, as it was more _ to his home. Inpolitics he was a Democrat of the Jeffersonian school and during his long life he never waveredin his devotion to principle. A great reader and possessed of a retentive memory, he was welland intelligently informed in all that related to the history of his country. In person Mr.STURGEON was tall and slender, neat and careful in dress. Kind and courteous in manner, heever commanded an influence for good upon all who came in contact with him. Althoughqualified to fill almost any office, he never sought distinction in that way, choosing rather to livean independent life of the farm. His body was quietly laid to rest by the side of his parents inthe old burying ground at Candor Presbyterian church.

Deceased was the widow of George TEUTON, who was many years ago well known atHickory as a hotelkeeper, and she was a cousin of Mr. Thomas TRIMMER of McDonald. She hadthree daughters, Mrs. John SAUTERS, a widow, also making her home at Mr. GLADDEN’s, Mrs.Vinie C. GLADDEN, and Mrs. Clara PIERSON 4*th and Butler Sts., Pittsburg. The interment wasat Arlington on Sunday. Mrs. TEUTON was a member of the McDonald Presbyterian church.

Thos. TIDBALL, brakeman on the work train, was killed at Jumbo Thursday afternoonwhile coupling cars. He was in between two cars that came very close together when coupled,and holding the coupling pin he signaled to George FITZSIMMONS, the paper man, who wasstanding near, to give the engineer the signal to back up. The engineer would not takeFITZSIMMON’s signal, so TIDBALL ran out, gave the signal and went back between the cars asthey came together, but was unable to get himself into a safe position, and his head was caughtbetween the cars and crushed. He was not injured any other way. This occurred at 2:35, whilefuneral services were being conducted in the Presbyterian Church over the body of anotherrailroad man who had been killed Tuesday evening, Albert HOLMES. He died a half an hourlater.

The remains were taken to his house at Woodville. He was a single man and the onlysupport of his mother.

Thursday morning. He hand his fireman, J. S.CONNELLY, were coming off night turn from a localfreight and stepped on the track just in time to be caught by "No. 2 east." WHEAT was instantlykilled, and CONNELLY was badly injured about the head. The remains of the engineer weretaken to the city. He was 30 years of age and leaves a wife and two children in Wheeling.

October 29, 1892 McDonald PA OutlookTuesday evening William WILSON, a well-known citizen of Burgettstown, was killed by theeastbound fast line. He was coming from his farm, and when opposite the Johnston Hotelhalted a moment to weight for a freight to pass. He stepped in behind this train and wascaught by the fast line. Both legs were broken, and he received internal injuries that causeddeath in a few minutes. Mr. WILSON was about 40 years old and unmarried. During the pastthree years he has with his three sisters lived on the Rev. FREDERICKS property, which hebought.

When the train struck the unfortunate man the body was thrown with great violence some 40feet away. A 2x3 post that was part of the platform guard was torn away and the remainswhen picked up were crushed to a pulp. July 2, 1892 McDonald OutlookJohn P. WOODS died suddenly at his home in Burgettstown, June 27, 1892. The

deceased was born in Lancaster, Pa., Nov. 27, 1815. He was an honored and esteemed citizen,having filled every township office but constable. The last office to which he was chosen by thevoters of Smith township was justice of the Peace. He was twice re-elected by the voters of theborough of Burgettstown, and was serving his third term at the time of his death. He served asTreasurer and secretary and Manager of the Union Agricultural Association. He was aconsistent member of the United Presbyterian church of Burgettstown. In January, 1838, he

September 23, 1893 OutlookAnother Tragedy. The Hard Fate of an Orphan Boy Who Was Seeking a Home.

That portion of the railroad track near Brier Hill tipple, where fifteen to twenty personshave been killed by the cars in the last five years, is keeping up its record. Last Saturdaymorning arrived on the nine train from Columbus, O., Oscar AILER, 14 years old, who wascoming to make his home with is uncle, Rev. O. E. AILER. The boy’s father, John AILER, who iswell known around McDonald, had died at Columbus the week before and his mother had diedonly three weeks before that.

Oscar came to Brier Hill to the house of his uncle, and learning that he was engaged inbuilding the Baptist Church at the head of Fannie street, he started to go there. Crossing thetrack at Brier Hill he was run over by a freight that was making twenty miles an hour and cut topieces. The remains were gathered up and Coroner JOHNSON was notified, and came on andheld an inquest in the evening. The verdict was accidental death, but the jury found that it wasthe plain duty of the Town Council of McDonald to pass and enforce an ordinance regulatingthe speed of trains passing through the Borough. Mr. JOHNSON says he will call the attentionof the District Attorney to the many deaths caused by the reckless running of trains in thisvalley. This poor boy was killed within an hour after his arrival in McDonald.

last Saturday from injuries received in an accident. The nature of the accident was notmentioned in the telegram.

Elsewhere is a brief note of the death of Joseph BANNISTER at Wellsville, N. Y. It nowappears that he was run over by a train, both legs being crushed, and he lived but a few hours.He was 32 years old. Was well known in the oil fields as an extensive operator. He had gonehome to visit his father and mother. He came to his death by trying to pass across a freighttrain which blockaded a crossing, the cars starting up and throwing him under. The wife of Mr.Joseph LYONS, who lives in one of the MALONEY houses is a sister.

Death was caused by an injury to the brain. The remainswere brought home and interred in Arlington cemetery on Tuesday.
