The Normal EyeThe eye’s surface is convex, and light rays that hit it bend toward its center. In an eye with a normally curved cornea and the correct shape, an image focuses exactly on the retina.

CONDITIONS OF THE EYE

AstigmatismVision becomes distorted when the surface of the cornea has an uneven curvature. Sometimes, it is the eye’s lens that is irregularly shaped. Astigmatism causes light to focus in more than one spot, leading to blurred vision.

Farsightedness (Hyperopia)When the eyeball is too short, light rays entering the eye focus behind the retina. Distant objects are easier to see than near ones.

Nearsightedness (Myopia)When the eyeball is too long, light rays focus in front of, rather than on, the retina. Under these circumstances, near objects are in focus, but distant objects are not.

SHAPINGYOUR VISION

A thin corneal flap is created with

a femtosecond laser

The excimer laser smoothes the cornea, allowing you to

achieve better vision

The flap is returned to its original position where it

adheres naturally

“We’re busy parents and the hassle of glasses and contacts slowed us down.

Having LASIK at McDonald Eye Associates is one of the best decisions we’ve made.”

Jim & Emily Burrow

The entire process takes approximately 10 minutes per eye. Most people get back to their normal routine quickly, even going back to work the day after surgery.

LASIKA BLADE FREE EXPERIENCE

Ziemer® Z-Lasik Femto LDV Laser

Personalized Diagnostic Map

At McDonald Eye Associates, we are proud to offer our patients a unique LASIK procedure using the Zeimer® Z-LASIK FEMTO LDV Laser and the Bausch + Lomb Technolas® laser system. Our surgeons use the advanced Orbscan® diagnostic system to create a detailed map of the front and back of your cornea. This diagnostic tool allows for a safer procedure, giving you the peace of mind you deserve.

The Z-LASIK FEMTO LDV femtosecond laser allows a blade-free flap creation by using short pulses of light to gently separate the layers of the cornea, creating an ultra-thin flap and smooth surface underneath. In conventional LASIK, a blade is used to make the flap. At McDonald Eye Associates, we offer a completely bladeless procedure.

Bausch + Lomb Technolas® Laser System

www.mcdonaldeye.com

The Bausch + Lomb Technolas® Excimer workstation is one of the latest laser technologies for LASIK surgery and is used to reshape the cornea. This laser has innovative features like advanced control eye tracking, which allows the laser to accurately track the eye, despite any movement and iris recognition, which distinguishes between your right and left eye. These features allow for wider treatment ranges for near and farsightedness, as well as astigmatism, meaning some who may have not been candidates for LASIK previously, could now be good candidates.

Since not all of our patients are candidates for traditional LASIK, we perform a related procedure called Epi-LASIK in order to help them achieve the best possible vision. This procedure eliminates the flap, allowing for effective treatment for patients with thin corneas and other LASIK contraindications.

Our surgeons hold a conservative approach to screening LASIK patients. Your safety is our number one priority. Schedule your free LASIK screening today to learn if you are a good candidate.

We understand LASIK is an investment, but the chart below* shows that you will likely save money in the long run by reducing your need for contacts and glasses. We do offer financing options for our patients and you can also use healthcare flexible spending account funds on your LASIK procedure.
