Escher. Once complete, students will create a transformation of their original Tessellation using the distort, perspective and warp transformation tools in Adobe Photoshop. There are many different ways to use the transformation tools, so experiment with all the tools. Tessellation Transformation Requirements: Creation of a custom shape for your Tessellation design At least 2 contrasting, harmonious colors Use of Layer Styles to add depth (Bevel/Emboss…) Use of at least 1 filter Transformation of your Tessellation

M.C. EscherM.C. Escher• M.C. Escher was born June 17, 1898 in Holland. He is known

as the father of modern day tessellations. He died in 1972.

• M.C. Escher, during his lifetime, made 448 lithographs, woodcuts and wood engravings and over 2000 drawings and sketches. Like some of his famous predecessors, - Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, M.C. Escher was left-handed.

• He is most famous for his so-called impossible structures, such as Ascending and Descending, Relativity, his Transformation Prints, such as Metamorphosis I, Metamorphosis II and Metamorphosis III, Sky & Water I or Reptiles.

TessellationTessellation• A collection of shapes that fit together to cover a surface

without overlapping or leaving gaps. Often a repeating geometric pattern, many of which may also be referred to as tiling. Types of tessellations include translation, rotation, and reflection.

• Tessellations can be seen in almost every brick wall, tiled floor or wall, quilt pattern, lace tablecloth, fabric and wallpaper pattern.

• The word "tessellation" comes from the Latin word tessella -- the tessera, or small square tile used in producing mosaics.
