Where collateral damage is a major issue, the modern ATGMweapon must offer unerring precision as well as extremeflexibility to confront not only heavily armoured MBTs but alsosoft targets such as a sniper concealed behind a wall. Also ofgreat importance is the need to ensure that the operator hasthe choice of full hands on control throughout the flightenvelope (minimising collateral damage risk) or fire-and-forgetto minimise exposure time in a heavy fire zone. Of course withthe modern battlefield becoming more and more networkenabled, today’s ATGM needs to be digitised to be able to playits part in NCW operations. To meet these demands, MBDA hasdeveloped MMP, a unique, fifth generation ATGM missile thatrepresents a quantum advance from the fourth and thirdgeneration weapons currently available on the market.

The only currentlyavailable fifth generationATGM • Next generation,

uncooled seeker• Next generation

tandem warhead• Automatic seeker lock-on• MEMS IMU for firing on

target coordinates• Lethality against a wide target

set including both hot andcold targets

• Two selectable trajectoriesto defeat the latest generationdefences of MBTs and otherheavily armoured vehicles

MMP FIFTH GENERATION MULTI-PURPOSECOMBAT MISSILE SYSTEM FOR LANDAND NAVAL OPERATIONS

Today’s battle commanderneeds to be prepared foroperations in both the traditionalopen terrain as well as in complexurban environments

Operational advantages • The only fully tested, fifth generation

anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) in fulloperational service

• Night/day/all weather operation (even in extremes of climate (from desert to sub-arctic conditions)

• Effective at ranges up to and over 4km• One missile for all terrain, all combat for

unmatched flexibility• One missile deployable by mounted and

dismounted troops as well as from naval craft(stockpile management advantages)

• Lightweight weapon system, easily man-portable

• Always the right lethal effect and trajectoryselectable for any target

• Always the right firing mode selectable for anycombat configuration

• High quality images provided by seeker andsight in all bands enabling optimised decisionmaking by the operator

• Highly automated system for minimaloperator workload

• Long lasting continuous observation capabilitywith a single rechargeable battery

• BLOS firing capability• Uncooled IR seeker allows repeated

lock-on to potential targets withoutconsuming resources

• Optimal gunner survivability thanks to - very low system signatures

(noise, visual, thermal…)- confined space firing capability- Non Line Of Sight (NLOS) firing capability

• Suitable for networked operations • Unjammable data link (fibre optics)• Collateral damage risk reduction• Robust and maintenance-free missile• Optimal gunner safety: no noxious gaz,

no overpressure, no recoil• Insensitive Munition (IM)

MMP FOR DISMOUNTEDINFANTRY

The fully digitised, interactive firing post with embeddedsensors, features a number of market-leading features:

• Latest generation IR band 2 and day camera• Laser range finder, GPS and magnetic compass• Advanced ergonomics• Modular architecture to facilitate integration onto

combat vehicles• Full NCW compatibility• Only 11kg (including tripod and battery)• Autonomous with battery or can be connected

to an external power source

Though the MMP firing post is easy to use and requiresvery little training to bring an operator up to speed withits full functionality, ongoing training is, of course, vital.

Training in the field with live rounds is costlyso MBDA has developed a new generationof simulators:

• Gunnery training simulator for indoortraining based on enriched realitytechnology (real life scenarios thatcorrespond to the customer’s expectedcombat environments can be programmed)

• Combat firing simulator for tactical trainingin the field

For rapidly deploying combatants,MMP offers a highly portablesolution that can be deployedfrom both open terrain and veryconfined spaces

MMP with IMPACTTo maximise the operational flexibility of MMP,MBDA has developed the IMPACT turret.

The 250kg class remote controlled turretprovides an optimised battle capability againsta wide spectrum of hard and soft targets fora range of manned light combat vehiclesIMPACT features a twin launcher on the landvariant deploying two ready-to-fire MMP missilesand a 7.62mm general-purpose machine gun.

MMP FOR WHEELED ANDTRACKED VEHICLES

MPCV/MMPHousing four MMP missiles (in a 2x2 configuration),this motorised turret is suitable for a wide range of lightand medium armoured vehicles (eg. 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8 all-terrain) as well as larger tracked platforms. The gyro-stabilised day/night thermal optical sensor and firingcontrol units are all integrated within the turret. A 12.7mm (.50 calibre) machine gun completes thesystem’s overall firepower.

The MPCV turret design is focused on modularity andtherefore provides the ideal platform for MMP which itselfhas been designed to be multi-purpose. LYNKEUS is a mini-C2 (Command & Control) system in the form of a scalableand modular application that can be downloaded onto a ruggedised militarytablet computer or integrated on-board a light armoured vehicle. Equippedwith the LYNKEUS app, the battle commander has access to informationregarding targets and available weapon resources thereby providing him/herwith the necessary situational awareness of the battlefield environment tooptimise engagement strategy decisions for mounted and dismounted forces. This information can be provided by a mini-drone, IR and radar surveillanceequipment, platoon spotters with binoculars and so on and the system itselfcan link into a higher level BMS (Battle Management System). Ideally suited forMMP, LYNKEUS can also coordinate other MBDA weapon resources such asMLP-EMM (Medium Range ATGM) or Enforcer (Short Range ATGM). Whetherdeployed by troops on foot or rapidly deployed in light armoured vehicles suchas the Sherpa, LYNKEUS provides a clear battle-winning advantage.

MMP FOR NAVAL APPLICATIONS

12

MMP can provide a number of solutions for naval platforms including Rigid Hulled Inflatable Boats (RHIBs). The land system firing post needs only to be inserted into a suitably positioned mount which can be easily retrofitted onto RHIBs and other small craft.

Page 13: MBDA MMP family brochure

For FACs and larger craft, a twin-launcher IMPACTturret (minus the machine gun) is available. The MMPmissiles are housed in a specially designed, remotely-controlled naval launcher to provide a very effectiveinner point self defence capability.
