Our Centre, which is supported by an impressive Advisory Board, works in collaboration with other financial and academic institutions to encourage high quality research and to promote the understanding of Islamic finance through lectures, conferences and short courses. Now that our PhD programme and our MA programme in conjunction with the University of Sarajevo are well established, we are offering an outstanding MBA in Islamic Finance with two study pathways: full-time and executive.

Professor Mohammed Kayed Abdel-Haq is the founder and Director of the

Centre for Islamic Finance. Alongside his academic knowledge Mohammed has a wealth of practical and professional experience; highly regarded in the banking industry he was invited by the Government to serve on their Islamic Finance Task Force. Mohammed is the former Managing Director and Global Head of HSBC Amanah Private Banking.

The MBA in Islamic Finance is a full-time programme for business professionals interested in advancing their careers. This programme focuses on the development of knowledge and understanding of strategic management issues in order to reflect on and improve business and management practice in the field of Islamic finance. The programme is designed to dovetail with the demands of a full-time job aligning theory and practice.

Regardless of the industry or the commercial role you hold, the MBA in Islamic Finance course will assist you in gaining a critical understanding of an industry which is now estimated to be approx $1.5 trillion. You will study the opportunities and challenges facing Islamic finance enterprises and organisations and will be equipped with the appropriate analytical and critical tools, techniques and theories to provide in-depth knowledge related to various Islamic business transactions. These qualities and skills are sought by prestigious employers and this full-time one-year course, which will be run at the University of Bolton, will improve your professional skills and will provide you with a platform for an excellent career. Learning is supported via interactive in-class sessions and independent study. The learning and teaching strategy for each individual module is detailed in the module guides that you will receive at the beginning of each semester.

The MBA in Islamic Finance offers you the chance to join a well established postgraduate community engaged in preparing themselves for a career in executive management in the field of Islamic finance.

Entry RequirementsApplicants should normally have the following: 2 years work experience in a business or management capacity; and a UK honours degree/postgraduate degree (or equivalent). English language certificate where relevant.

IntakesThere are two intakes each year in January and September.

ISLAMIC BUSINESS TRANSACTION LAW - This module will introduce you to Islamic law. The methodologies and concepts of Islamic law will be investigated to provide in-depth knowledge related to various Islamic business transactions.

ISLAMIC FINANCE AND INVESTMENT - This module will help you to develop a critical understanding of the concepts and practical operations of the Islamic financial sector. In addition, you will be able to identify the risk elements related to Islamic financial products and mitigation techniques relating to Islamic banking and the key functional areas of management.

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT - This module aims to provide a general introduction to HRM in organisations. It will show an awareness of the merits and difficulties associated with new and different forms of work patterns and job designs aimed at enhancing performance, motivation and commitment.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT AND DECISION MAKING - This module is designed to introduce managers to the concepts of financial management, and to explore the corporate aspects, and the differing organisational contexts, that determine sources of corporate funding.

SALES MANAGEMENT & MARKETING - This module aims to provide you with a critical understanding of the global marketing process and the opportunity to develop and refine relevant skills in the practice of global marketing.

STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP - This area is a fundamental and necessary requirement for organisations faced with rapidly changing socio-economic and political landscapes. The module appreciates the relationship between leadership skills and abilities, and the constant strategic development and evolution of organisations.

In addition MBA study is designed to encourage independent research which helps you to align your learning with your personal and professional goals through the completion of a dissertation supported by a module in Research Methodology, The aim is to stretch your management competencies into new areas of potential responsibility in the field of Islamic finance.
