    2 a. Explain the steps involved in l inear programming problem formulation. D iscuss in

    brief the advantages of l inear programming.

    b. Alpha L imi ted produces & sell s two dif ferent products under the brand names black

    & whi te. The prof it per unit on these products in Rs. 50 & Rs. 40 respectively. Both the

    products employ the same manufactur ing process which has a fi xed total capacity of

    50,000 man-hours. As per the estimates of the marketing research department of

    Al pha Limi ted, there is a market demand for maximum 8,000 uni ts of Black & 10,000

    un its of wh ite. Subject to the overall demand, the products can be sold in any possible

    combination. I f i t takes 3 hours to produce one unit of black & 2 hours to produce one

    uni t of white, formu late the model of l inear programming.
