Have you ever struggled to find the right part for your car because a product catalogue is outdated? Or twiddled your thumbs for ages while clueless sales staff ask each other or phone around for advice? And then settled for an uncertain compromise, for lack of specific product information?

Federal-Mogul South Africa, the subsidiary of the global manufacturer of famous auto parts brands such as Champion and Ferodo, has overhauled its customer interface platforms to empower customers, both retailers and final users, so that they can make better purchase decisions.

Federal-Mogul product manager Mark Bonney says the primary channel through which the company informs customers of changes to its product range is its catalogue.

A lot of effort has gone into making this auto parts “library” easy to navigate and understand. Federal-Mogul has also taken a decision to publish bulletins in between catalogue updates to ensure that the available product range is up to date.

“Catalogues are bulky, intimidating and costly to produce, and bulletins will help to fill in the gaps in between catalogue editions,” says Bonney, who was instrumental in introducing the new set-up. While catalogues are generally published once every five years, bulletins will appear as soon as there is sufficient market change that justifies an update of the available product range.

Bonney says the Car Park information that Federal-Mogul receives regularly through eNaTIS, is a sound foundation on which to base a move towards introducing a new product in the aftermarket production process. The Car Park database is a repository of every car make and the number of cars in each category that is legal on South African roads.
