Jackson 2015 Academic Decathlon Team!!! APS Winners as first time competitors!!! After a day of tallying scores from Tuesday’s competition, Gifted Coordinator Gyimah Whitaker and the APS prize patrol surprised students and personnel of MH Jackson High School this afternoon with the announcement that Maynard H. Jackson High School won the 2015 Academic Decathlon for Atlanta Public Schools. North Atlanta placed second. Maynard H. Jackson High School’s Academic Decathlon team will now compete at the State Level and represent Atlanta Public Schools. Mrs. Stephanie Johnson is the very proud principal. Ms. Debra Ross is the team’s coach/sponsor. Members are Delfina Booth, LaReya Brown, Fenn Connor, Tilia Garner, Solomon Martin, Reid Rosbottom, Marquis Thorn, and Maya Webster. Congratulations to our Maynard H. Jackson High School students for advancing to the final state round of GHP interviews! The  Garden  Club  meets  on  Wednesdays  after  school  in  Mr.  Kings  room  (2277)  FROM  3:35PM  to  4:30PM.  The  Facebook  link  is    https://www.facebook.com/groups/jacksonparksfarm/    The  Health  Careers  Academy,  or  HCA,  meets  Tuesdays  from  4-­‐5pm.  The  Health  Careers  Academy  at  MJHS  is  an  exciting  opportunity  for  you  to  partner  up  with  Morehouse  and  Emory  Medical  Students  get  the  opportunity  to  visit  the  medical  schools,  get  lectures  from  physicians,  and  get  exposed  to  other  health  professions.  The  students  have  medical  student  Mentors,  who  visit  campus  twice  a  month  to  meet.  Together,  they  start  working  on  big  public  health  topics  that  are  important  to  Maynard  Jackson  Community.

CDC  Disease  Detective  Camp  (DDC)  is  an  educational  program  started  by  CDC′s  David  J.  Sencer  CDC  Museum  in  2005  as  a  mechanism  for  developing  a  public  health  camp  curriculum  for  state  and  county  health  departments.  The  camp  is  open  to  upcoming  high  school  juniors  and  seniors  and  is  held  at  CDC's  headquarters  in  Atlanta,  Georgia.  The  CDC  Disease  Detective  Camp  curriculum  is  based  on  contextual  and  situated  cognition  learning  principles.      For  more  information,  please  visit:  http://www.cdc.gov/museum/camp/detective/index.htm  

Odyssey  is  an  amazing  5-­‐week  opportunity  for  high  school  students  to  gain  valuable  academic  skills  in  a  fun  summer  environment  that  includes  college  tours,  leadership  training,  mentoring  and  real  world  experience.    Our  cost  is  $3,000  per  student.    The  cost  to  the  students  selected  is  $35.      Please  help  us  to  find  great  young  people  that  could  benefit  from  our  program.    Does  our  program  work  in  partnership  with  your  mission  and  goals?    Please  visit  www.odysseyatlanta.org      

Each  year  the  Princeton  Prize  in  Race  Relations,  a  program  sponsored  by  Princeton  University,  seeks  to  honor  students  in  grades  9-­‐12  who  are  doing  outstanding  work  in  their  schools  or  communities  to  advance  the  cause  of  race  relations.  This  is  Atlanta's  10th  year  of  awarding  the  Princeton  Prize!  Please  encourage  youth  in  your  community  to  apply.    The  application  is  short,  and  there  are  no  academic  requirements.    The  deadline  for  applications  is  January  31,  2015.            All  information,  including  the  application,  can  be  found  at  www.princeton.edu/princetonprize.  Please  email  them  at  [email protected]  or  call  us  at  (800)  742-­‐1036  for  additional  information.
