Principals Message Welcome to Week 4! It was so wonderful to see so many families and especially grandparents and grandfriends here last week for our Open Day I hope you enjoyed geng to see a lile of what happens in our classrooms. Wasnt the Book Parade so much fun? It was great to see so many students and staff dressed as their favourite characters. Each of our performers also did a brilliant job – with some of our students appearing in 2 or 3 performances. Well done to Year 6, who raised another $370 towards the Year 6 fundraising drive. All of which comes back to our school at the end of the year in the form of a giſt to the school. Thank you to every parent, carer and student who cooked and prepared the delicious cakes and slices - they sold out prey quickly but I did manage to buy a few. Thank you to everyone who supported our Book Fair – Mrs Bayl was very ably helped by Mrs Walsh as well as some other helpers throughout the Book Fair and together managed to sell $2400 worth of books. This means that we will receive around $1000 in books back to our school library, which is just brilliant – thank you all so much for your support! Well done to all of our students who parcipated in the Zone Athlecs Carnival at Glendale last Friday – Miss Peterie was very proud of how well you represented our school. A big congratulaons to Violet and Zane, who both made it through to the Regional Athlecs Carnival – Violet in 100m and Zane in 800m running. What a fantasc achievement! This week we have been having some major issues with our Sentral server which has all of our aendance, student wellbeing and academic data stored on it. It is also the system that sends out text messages when your child is absent or late. I have been in constant contact with Sentral to organise Cloud Hosng, which is in the process of being seng up. In the meanme, please send any absence notes in via the SkoolBag app, or ring the office as early as possible. Well send a noce on SkoolBag when the system is fully funconal again. We appreciate your understanding in this maer. Tuesday 14th August Week 4 Term 3 MAYFIELD MESSENGER

Principal’s Message

Welcome to Week 4! It was so wonderful to see so many families and especially grandparents and grandfriends here last week for our Open Day – I hope you enjoyed getting to see a little of what happens in our classrooms. Wasn’t the Book Parade so much fun? It was great to see so many students and staff dressed as their favourite characters. MAYFIELD MESSENGER

Here at Mayfield East PS our staff work together in teams to ensure that major initiatives, events, programs

and key focus areas happen in a thorough, systematic way. Our staff are all involved in at least one and

often multiple teams, with meetings taking place before or after school. We have staff who work together on

Curriculum, focusing on planning, programming, lesson implementation, resourcing, professional

development and more. We also have a Student Wellbeing Team who among other things oversees and

organises Learning Support meetings, Student Learning Support Plan reviews as well as programs such as

MiniLit and MultiLit etc. We have staff working on Future Learning skills and a Sports/PDHPE Committee who

organises our carnivals, gala days and sports opportunities. Our Aboriginal Education Team has been

working this year to review and improve how we incorporate Aboriginal perspectives into both the curriculum

and our school culture. They were also responsible for our fantastic NAIDOC Week celebrations. To truly

make Aboriginal perspectives authentic and embedded in our school culture though, we would love our

community to be part of the journey.

Therefore from tomorrow, our Aboriginal Education Team meetings are open to interested parents / carers,

family and friends to join in. The meetings are held once a fortnight on Wednesdays – with each one

alternating between a morning and an afternoon time slot. Tomorrow’s meeting on Wed 15/8 will be 8.15am-

8.50am, the following meeting will be Wed 29/8 will be 4-4.40pm – each meeting will be in the ‘Kitchen’ with

tea, coffee and a biscuit provided. We would love to see you there!

Have a wonderful week of learning!

Your proud principal,

Robyn Christie

Enrichment Maths Pupils in the Enrichment Maths Group are enrolled in the ‘RockStars of Maths Competition’ which commences today and continues tomorrow. They have individual log-ins that have been sent home with a letter explaining the competition. They can log-in at home and complete some Maths questions if they get a chance. Good luck and have fun! Mrs Johnson

Zone Athletics Huge congratulations to all of the students who competed in the Zone Athletics Carnival on Friday the 10th August. I was so proud of determination and sportsmanship they demonstrated on the day. Special congratulations to two special students we have who made it to the next regional round. Violet who man-aged to place 1st overall in the 12yr 100m race and Zane who placed 8th overall in the 800m race. We wish them all the best in the lead up to the regional carnival! Ms Peterie

Library News Thank you to all the students, parents, grandparents and friends that attended our Book Fair last week in the library, it was a huge success! We sold over $2,000 worth of books which means we will receive many fantastic new resources for our library.

I would also like to take the opportunity to thank the parents and grandparents who generously donated books to the library. Your support is greatly appreciated by the students and staff of Mayfield East.

On Monday 3rd September our school will be hosting well known children’s author/illustrator Michael Salmon. This show is a continuation of our Book Week celebrations. A permission note will be coming home soon.

Michael will be hosting a one hour workshop for all students in K-6. Michael has been visiting primary schools around Australia for many years presenting ‘shows’ to students of all ages...with quick cartoons, lots of chat and audience participation. He focuses on the importance of individual creativity, and hopefully passing on confidence and reassurance to budding authors and artists about their own talents. Mrs Bayl

MEPS Drought Relief Fundraiser Events The students in our Student Parliament have decided that for the rest of this

term we will be focusing on helping the drought stricken farmers, their

families and their pets. We will be doing this through both fundraising and a

food drive. We will be collecting non-perishable foods in the school office to

be distributed to farming families and their pets. Items you could donate

include pantry goods, cereals, canned goods and pet food. These can be dropped off

anytime between now and the end of term, at the school office. Our second fundraising

activity will be ‘Sponsor a Scarecrow Competition’. Each class will be collecting coins over

the next few weeks in their classrooms. The class which collects the most coins will be able

to make and most importantly name a scarecrow in our school garden. We will top it off

with a Mufti Day on Wednesday 19th September (Week 9) where we can dress like a farmer.

Bring a gold coin on this day to dress like a farmer. We will also work out the winner of the

scarecrow competition on the same day. Hopefully we can all work together to make a

difference for our rural families severely affected by this drought.
