The production of cement requires limestone as the main raw material, besides otherslike bauxite, clay, iron ore, gypsum, and coal. It is thesecond most abundant organic compound next tocellulose. It is a macro molecular linear polymer of_(1-4) N acetyl D glucosamine and is insoluble inwater and many organic solvents. Chitin itself hasonly a few applications; it acts more as aprecursor of Chitosan, its most familiar derivative.Chitosan is deacetylated chitin, and is polymer of_(1-4) acetyl - D glucosamine. Manufacturing of steel tubes & pipes is, basically aHeavy Mechanical Engineering industry and is mostlyproduced in large scale. ERW steel tubes are chieflyused in bicycles, transformers, L.P. Boilers, furnitures

industries etc. While seamless steel tubes are used inoil exploration, fertilizer, boiler & chemical industries.Normally, the plant capacity of Indian steel tube unitsranges from 5,000 M.T. to 25,000 M.T. per annum. The industry of even smaller capacity is possiblewhich can suit the S.S.I. parameters but the economyof scales is always there. The improving industrialclimate, greater emphasis on oil exploration, powergeneration and the nuclear programme haveimproved prospects for the Indian steel pipes andtubes industry, despite some temporary difficultiescreated by official policy. It now manufacturers itemslike seamless tubes and speciality pipes for use in oilexploration and drilling, conveyance of petroleum andgas, the chemical and fertiliser industries, nuclearplants etc. a and more speciality products are on thecards. India has witnessed an increase in food grainproduction from 51 million tones (50s) to 206 milliontonnes at the turn of the century and that has helpedin achieving self sufficiency. However, quickshrinking of the agricultural land threatenssustainable production of food grains and its abilityto feed ever growing mouths. In this context, carefultailoring of soil and crop management practices

suitable to local needs is of great importance to keepup the pace of production. The term does not include hopes, orfabrics which are woven, knitted, tufted, stitch-banded or made by wool felting. In comparativelysimple terms, a non-woven may be described as afabric having textile-like properties, which isprepared by banding fibres together, rather thanby the traditional method of spinning into yarns, followed by weaving. Non-woven fabrics find theirapplications as carpets, blankets, upholstry, floorcoverings, wall-coverings, automotive carpets,

Re-refining of used oils is now accepted andrecognised as a legitimate source ofsupplementing petroleum oils. Prior to theescalation of oil prices, petroleum lubricants andother industrial oils were very cheap and theirconservation and saving was not economicallyattractive. Users did not care to recovery andpreserve used oils, which were allowed to be lost

or were disposed of by easiest possible means.Rise in Oil prices has compelled the users firstly toeconomise the use of oils and secondly torecover, grade and store the used oils. Attractiveprices and ready acceptability have given a boostto this industry. The current production of re-refined oils in the country is around 30,000 tonnesper year. This is hardly five per cent of the oilconsumed, therest 95 percent is lost. In most ofthe applications, lubricants only degrade and arenot destroyed. Around 10 lakh tonnes/year of oilsare therefore lost in the environment, and polluteground and water. This therefore, requires andurgent look into the design of machines, andmachine lubrication systems. Bakers yeast is an inseparable bakery ingredientto cause fermentation in the dough used to makebakery items. As a result of fermentation we getsoft and fluffy bakery items. In the present erathere is an increasing trend towards processedand fast food consumption like bakery items. While demand for bakery items is saturated indeveloped countries it is increasing at a

consistent pace in the developing nations withincreased demand for processed food items likepizza base, burger buns. Yeast is a unicellularmicroorganism which primarily requires sugars, water and warmth to stay alive. In addition, albumen or nitrogenous material is alsonecessary for yeast to thrive. There are hundredsof different species of yeast identified in nature, but the genus and species most commonly usedfor baking is Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Thescientific name Saccharomyces cerevisiae, means a mold which ferments the sugar in cereal(saccharo-mucus cerevisiae) to produce alcoholand carbon dioxide. Plasticizers have been found to be used largely byvinyl industry, where they improve processabilityof resins and inhance the properties of the endproduct. The first successful use of end product. The first successful use of a plasticizer in thepreparation of a plastic, however, was long beforethe development of polyvinyl chloride. When theHyatt brothers used camphor to plasticizernitrocellulose, about 1868, and thereby broughtcelluloid into existance the invention marked thebegining of both the plastics and the plasticizerindustries. Camphor was replaced by tripheniylphosphate after some years and a little latertrieresyl phosphate was also used withnitrocellulose. While PET bottle development was proceeding inthe US, a large manufacturer of injectionmoulding machines in Japan, was leading aproject to develop a machine to make biaxially

oriented PP (polypropylene) containers. Theyrecognized that the prototype machine could beused to produce the new PET bottles and, inDecember 1975, the One-stage ASB-150injection stretch blow moulding machine formaking the new biaxial oriented PET bottles wasunveiled. All one-stage injection stretch blowmoulding machines derived from this originalStretch Blow design are referred to as classicone-stage machines, as the concept has longsince been extended into other PETdevelopments. The classic one-stage machinesdesign is extremely versatile in that the samebasic machine design can be used to make a widevariety of bottles and jars in all shapes and sizes, which was the standard single-stage machine inthe early years, had eight cavities for 1.5 litrebottles. The electrical and electronic waste (e-waste) isone of the fastest growing waste streams in theworld. The increasing market penetration indeveloping countries, replacement market indeveloped countries and high obsolescence ratemake e-waste as one of the fastest growing wastestreams. Environmental issues and tradeassociated with e-waste at local, transboundaryand international level has driven many countriesto introduce interventions. In accordance with the

National Environmental Policy (NEP) and toaddress sustainable development concerns, there is a need to facilitate the recovery and/orreuse of useful materials from waste generatedfrom a process and/or from the use of any materialthereby, reducing the wastes destined for finaldisposal and to ensure the environmentally soundmanagement of all materials. The NEP alsoencourages giving legal recognition andstrengthening the informal sectors system forcollection and recycling of various materials. Ceramic insulators have been utilizedin a variety of electrical devices. Ceramicinsulators are often used as electrical insulators inchemically and electrically hostile environments. These ceramic insulators are often prepared fromcompositions containing lead, such as leadsilicate. The lead is utilized to lower the firingtemperature of the ceramic material and topromote bonding and sintering of otherconstituents in the ceramic used to form theinsulator. Such farms have generatedconsiderable employment opportunities in semiurban and rural areas. Marketing of poultry birdsis expensive and death of birds during transit is
