COMPANIONSHIP

Some may consider marriage as an outmoded institution in today’s world, but most people disagree, considering marriage as the culture’s most profound symbol of commitment and liberation from loneliness. Marriage is defined by companionship. It’s a calling where two people commit themselves in a relationship. At its best, marriage means that a person does not undertake life’s journey alone, but commit oneself to share its joys, sorrows, and memories with someone else. Above all, a successful marriage impels individuals to grow along multiple dimensions.

In today’s Gospel Our Lord teaches us about marriage in response to some sticky questions posed by the Pharisees. John Paul the II in his letter to the families says, “As the family goes, so goes the nation and so goes the whole world in which we live.” When a man and a woman come together in a love of total mutual self-giving, it reflects the inter-Personal love within the Most Holy Trinity: when Adam sees Eve for the first time, he recognizes a part of himself, someone without whom he would be incomplete, someone who was missing in his life. Marriage is a divine plan. For those called to marriage, God has blessed two people with someone out there with whom they can be complete, be whole. The existential reality is that marriage may be the most psychologically intense relationship that most adults will ever experience, Conflicts may be inherent in a relationship where decisions are made everyday. If tensions arise in your marriage, don’t wait: please attend a faith-based marriage retreat. Even a healthy marriage can benefit for some time in prayer to meditate on your responsibilities as spouses to each other. Worldwide Marriage Encounter offers a variety of marriage weekends. There is one they conduct at hotel Atrium, in Mandurah. This is an opportunity for individuals to sustain and strengthen their relationship. Above all, when there is turbulence, trust in the Lord. The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you. Psalm 91 says, those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I am trusting Him. God Bless.

Who can ignore the beauty of spring? Springtime brings us the fresh vibrant colours and blossoms around us. If you’d like to share some of these nature’s gifts, please bring them to the church or parish office.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

No Masses will be offered on Tuesday and Wednesday next week (9

th October and 10

th October ).

Liturgy of the Word with Communion will be available.

Fr Theo, Fr Albin and Fr Anson will be attending a Priests Gathering in Busselton. Mass will resume on Thursday morning (11 October) at 7.30am.

Please join the Public Square Rosary. As we all know, Australia is in need of public prayer, repentance and conversion.

We must ask God’s merciful blessing upon Australia through the powerful intercession of Our Lady of Fatima.

More information: Those attending the Rosary are urged to assemble beside the church

immediately after the 7:30 am Mass. A procession of the Blessed Virgin Mother will commence leaving the Church at 8:30 am.

Anyone unable to participate in the procession, please proceed to the

Rotunda located on the Eastern Foreshore in Mandurah. It is recommended you bring a folding chair for comfort. We anticipate that the reciting of the Rosary and Prayers will not exceed

one hour, from the time of arrival at the Foreshore. A Public Square Rosary booklet will be provided.

Prayers: Let’s include in our prayers the communities devastated by the natural calamities in Palu, Indonesia. May those who lost their homes, family members and livelihoods find consolation at these difficult times. May immediate assistance reach them for rescue and recovery.

Ten Steps to making a home for everyone in our land (continued from last week)

5. MAKE OUR PARISHES AND COMMUNITIES WELCOMING PLACES. Start a conversation about how your parish can extend a welcome to everyone who comes to your church. How can people experiencing housing difficulties be protected from falling by the wayside? Are there ways your parish can identify those needing help? Is there someone in the parish who knows what resources are available for people with

housing needs?

6. TAKE ACTION TO SUPPORT HOUSING INITIATIVES AND PROGRAMS. Commit to helping those in need in the local community through the work of the St Vincent de Paul Society, Catholic Care and other charities and services.

7. ADVOCATE FOR CHANGE LOCALLY AND NATIONWIDE Encourage your parish, school or youth group to make homelessness a priority issue. Link with other social justice groups that work to end homelessness. 8. HELP COMBAT MISUNDERSTANDING AND MISREPRESENTATION. How often do we hear calls to ‘clean up the streets’ or people in need being dismissed as ‘lazy’, ‘irresponsible’ or worse? Do councils and neighbourhoods always welcome proposals for shelters or facilities for homeless people? Challenge the myths that further marginalise people experiencing homelessness.

9. REMEMBER: STANDING WITH THOSE IN NEED IS CENTRAL TO OUR FAITH Every person has an inherent dignity as a child of God, and that dignity obliges us to identify with those who are less fortunate. Let’s make this a basis or our work for justice. Consider how we can use more compassionate language, upholding the dignity of the most vulnerable and ensuring that they flourish in a just and generous society.

10. LET US PRAY Prayer is a powerful way to bring about change in ourselves and our society. The prayer card that accompanies this leaflet is for personal or family use or for schools and parishes.
