Notes from the Pastor Dear Parish Family, Praise be Jesus Christ now and forever! What if I told you YOU hold the power to bring the dead to life? Would you believe me? No, it’s not just poetic language. Whenever we look at the gospel

stories, we’re asked to take what’s there, and see way beyond it—move it out into our lives. If we can’t do that, then what is the point? Jesus impressed the people with his physical raising of the widow of Nain’s dead son. It was an amazing evidence of his divine power and they recognized that “a great prophet has risen among us.” Now, we have inherited Jesus’ Spirit, and we are called to raise others from death. We know from centuries of spiritual writing, reflection, and experience that there are many kinds of death. Every day, lives are being deadened by cruelty, abuse, alcohol, and drug addiction. The gospel today says, “Jesus was moved with pity,” so he acted to raise the boy from death. How can we turn our pity into action? Maybe there is someone in your life who is particularly vulnerable in the world. Often we “blame the victim” when a young person does something wrong. But all of us are participating in the raising of the children around us, not just the birth parents. The good news is, you can interact with a child and have a profound effect upon the adult they become—just ask anyone who loved their coach or teacher. Some people need more raising to life, more affirmation, than others. But, just like Jesus, we can only take people as they come into our lives. When we feel ourselves moved with pity, let it be our call to action…to share our life with someone who needs to come alive again!

________________________________ This is the first weekend Deacon Mark Nillo is with us at St. Rose and so we warmly welcome him to our parish family and pray that his time with us will be blessed in many ways! Deacon Mark has been assigned to St. Rose for the summer from June 3 to July 22; he will also be with us for the Christmas and Easter holidays. In September he will return to St. Mary’s Seminary and University in Baltimore to complete his last year of studies before graduating in May, 2014 with a Master of Divinity and Bachelor of Sacred Theology degrees. Deacon Mark will be ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Trenton next June (there are six other deacons in his ordination class!). We are so glad to have Deacon Mark with us…you will find him to be a delightful and humble young man who is eager to serve the People of God! “An Evening of Parish Mission and Ministry at St. Rose.” This coming Tuesday, June 11th, we will be pleased to welcome Mrs. Terry Ginther from the Office of Pastoral Planning in the Diocese of Trenton who will be with us to give a presentation to ALL members of parish organizations, committees, groups, and ministries on our new parish mission statement and what it means in our particular organization or ministry. Anyone who is on a parish committee, organization, group, ministry (such as lector, Eucharistic minister), is invited to attend this evening of reflection from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in our Parish Center. Please join us for the

presentation, a wine and cheese social, and an opportunity to “connect” with your fellow parishioners in ministry! I look forward to sharing this evening with you. Parish Healthcare Ministry. Several parishioners took advantage of the free blood pressure screening we had after all the parish Masses last weekend. They will be doing this regularly. We thank the volunteer registered nurses who comprise our newly formed parish heathcare ministry and in their name we ask that you complete the “Parish Healthcare Ministry Survey” that was in the bulletin last weekend (also available at all the church entrances). This confidential survey will assist the healthcare ministry in planning future educational and informational activities in our parish. Thank you for taking the time to fill out the survey; simply return the form in the box marked “Healthcare Ministry” located in the front church vestibule. Thanks be to God for another school year….but a challenging one because of Sandy! We come to the end of another academic school year for St. Rose High School and St. Rose Grammar School. And what a year it has been because of superstorm Sandy! Thursday, June 13th is the last day of exams for students at SRHS and Friday, June 14th is the last day for SRGS (Mass at 9:00 a.m. in Church). By the grace of God and the helping hands of so many, we pulled together during this difficult school year because we are ST. ROSE STRONG! I wish to sincerely thank the faculties, staffs, administrations, school advisory boards, PTA’s, volunteers and EVERYONE who contributed time, talent and treasure in making this a great year, especially, Sr. Kathy Nace, SSJ, Principal of St. Rose High School, and Mr. William Roberts, Principal of St. Rose Grammar School. Thank you also to our parents for all your support throughout the year and to our children and teenagers who fill our classrooms with their smiling faces and eager minds waiting to learn. To ALL children and young people of our parish---whatever school you are attending—I wish you a happy, safe and enjoyable summer. Go with God and come back with God. And don’t forget your Sunday obligation (parents) of bringing your children to Mass on Sunday! We wish FATHER NEISER CARDENEAS prayerful best wishes and congratulations as he celebrates his first anniversary of ordination to the priesthood today, June 9th! May he continue to have many more joyful and grace-filled years of priestly service as we at the same time thank him for his priestly ministry here at St. Rose! Ad multos annos! God Bless You, Father Neiser! In this month of June, the month dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, let us remember these words of St. Alphonsus Liguori: “Let us place before our eyes, especially on Fridays, Jesus dying on the Cross, and let us rest there a while and contemplate the love which he bore to us while He continued in agony upon that bed of pain.” Have a good week and may God bless you and keep you always in His Love!

Joyfully in the Lord,

Rev. Msgr. Edward J. Arnister, Pastor

GREG RYAN GROUPS Weekly Christian Meditation Group - Mondays, 7:00-7:45 pm. “Contemplatives know that the work they are doing in silence and stillness touches and affects the whole person. The wounding division between body and mind is gradually healed and the meaning of resurrection becomes clearer. Restored to ourselves, we find our right place in the world and accept our responsibilities in it. The ways of peace and justice are highlighted, and courage to bear witness is born of the new peace in the soul.” From Laurence Freeman OSB, “Dearest Friends,” Christian Meditation Newsletter, Vol. 28, No. 2, May 2004, pp. 4-5.
