Qualifying products will display theENERGY STAR logo, which may appearon the appliance, the packaging or theEnergy Guide label. ENERGY STAR is ajoint program of the U.S. EnvironmentalProtection Agency and the U.S.Department of Energy. Earning theENERGY STAR means a product meetsstrict energy efficiency guidelines set bythese two federal agencies.
There is no limit on the number ofqualifying items one can purchase dur-ing this sales tax holiday, and an exemp-tion certificate is not required.

advantage of the sales tax holiday.Layaway sales of eligible products quali-fy for the exemption when either thefinal payment on a layaway order ismade and the merchandise is given tothe customer during the exemption peri-od, or the item is selected by the cus-tomer and the order is accepted into lay-away by the retailer during the exemp-tion period for immediate delivery uponfull payment, even if delivery is madeafter the exemption period.

portation charges connected to the saleof a qualifying item purchased tax freeduring the sales tax holiday also qualifyfor the exemption. Such charges areincluded as part of the sales price ofqualifying products sold during the holi-day whether separately stated or not. Forexample, assume a retailer sells anENERGY STAR-rated dishwasher tax-free during the sales tax holiday andcharges the customer an additional feefor delivery. The entire amount billed tothe customer for the purchase and deliv-ery of the qualifying appliance is exemptfrom tax.
