\GREETINGS FROM YOUR NEW LEIUTENANT GOVERNOR!

Hello Division 15!

My name is Olivia and I’m so excited to be working with you all this service year! We’re

in for an amazing time, so make sure you hold on for the ride and check your emails

constantly so you can see what your District Board, your fellow Division 15 members,

and I are up to! These emails also contain important information that does require a

response. I hope that all of you who were able to attend LTC had a great time this is

truly a transitional period where the new officers can get a feel for stepping up, and so

the old officers can train them to take over their jobs the following year. Use it wisely! So

what’s going on at the District Level? THE INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION IN

WASHINGTON, DC IS VASTLY APPROACHING! I hope at least some of you are going,

because I’m very excited to meet you all. I plan to be visiting all of the clubs starting in -

September of the 2013-14 school year. Keep up the great work! If you have any

questions please turn to the last page of this newsletter, and you will find my contact

information!

I’m looking forward to hearing from you all soon.

Yours in Service,

Olivia Austin- LTG Division 15

What is the Leadership Training Conference?

After your elections in March every year, the newly

elected officers are asked to attend the upcoming

LTC in order to learn more about their jobs, the

paperwork it requires, along with having some fun

at the annual play fair and meeting a bunch of

new people!

What do you do there?

You get to attend multiple workshops each day,

and you get to chose which ones you go to on

which day! One year there was a talent show, and

there’s multiple team building exercises. I promise

you that you will leave LTC with at least ONE new

friend!

AND if you register as a Delegate you get to vote

for your District Governor along with other positions!

Overall, LTC is really a great action packed

weekend of fun!

Are you a Senior? Are you sad that your Key Club

experience is over? Well it doesn’t have to be!

Service Spotlights- FORT ANN HIGH SCHOOL KEY CLUB

“This month the Fort Ann Key Club focused on one of our biggest events of the year, an

even that we always end our school year with. This event is the American Cancer

Society's Relay for Life. This year, our club raised a total of over $500 for Relay for Life,

and went to the event with not only just our Key Club, but many members of our school.

At Relay, many people from all over New York come together to fight cancer. Every

year they pick a theme for the event as well as have festive games going on during it.

This year the theme was Carnival Style and had games like pin the nose on the clown,

balloon animal making, and a scavenger hunt. A few Key Clubbers hunted in the

scavenger hunt and won! They even lit up some hot air balloons to light up the night

sky. It was pretty exciting. In the end, the two Co-Presidents of our Key Club (Jonah

Gould and I) stayed up the full 12 hours. All of the other members fell asleep in tents or

in the camper that one of our school’s PTSO members donated.”

SERVICE SPOTLIGHTS: HADLEY-LUZERNE HIGH SCHOOL KEY CLUB!

“ This past month our Key Club wanted to help out a member of the community who

had been helping out our school for many, many years. Her name is Linda Waite. Linda

has MS, and is bound to a wheel chair. Because of this, she can no longer do much on

her own. She was an extremely active member of the community until it became too

hard for her and her husband to get her into the van. So we stepped up to help. The

students who went to Saga City made a lot of money off selling basket raffle tickets, so

we decided to give it a whirl. Each grade level, along with other clubs created a

basket and donated it to our Key Club for us to raffle off in order to raise money to help

Mrs. Waite get enough money for a lift for her van which was about $1,500. She had

already saved up $400, and we wanted to give back to her for serving so faithfully in

our community. After the drawings on May 4th, we invited Linda to the school to receive

a donation. When she was told that we raised $1,100 so she could get her ramp she

was so grateful and excited. We made a difference in our community just by giving

back to one person who helped us out for years, and you can too.”

Hey guys! So this is a little more personal excerpt about who I

am!

Hobbies: Soccer, Volleyball, Singing, Laughing, Dancing,

Swimming, spending time with friends.

Pet Peeves: People not responding to important messages, and

people with bad manners.

Favorite Animal: PANDAS! I love Pandas… They make me smile!

Pet Loves: Happy people, Soccer, Pandas (of course), Dancing,

Meeting new people, along with many other things that I can’t

think of at the moment.

What inspired you to join Key Club?

Well, all my life I’ve just wanted to make a difference,

somewhere, somehow, and Key Club gave me that

opportunity.

What school do you go to?

Hadley- Luzerne High School!

What was your favorite fundraiser this past Service Year?

Well, where I live everything’s pretty much in the same area,

and every year around Christmas time we go “Caroling with

Christalin for Christmas”. Christalin was a girl in my school who

passed away on December 27, 2010: about a week or so after

the first time we ever went caroling, and she loved it so much

we decided to continue it, and rename it “Caroling with

Christalin for Christmas” in her honor. Every year we donate the

funds to a specific charity, and this year my club voted to give

the money to a little girl named Kaitlin. Kaitlin struggles every

day with Late Infantile NCL, if you would like to know her story

just ask, and I have a special write up about it if you’d like to

read it. Kaitlin is my hero. She fights everyday for her life, but

never gives up. And I love that about her. So my Key Club

agreed to donate the funds to her. It hit me close to home, and

that is probably why it’s my favorite fundraiser.
