Wednesday Night’s Bible Study has Resumed! Pastor Rolf is leading a study on Romans verse by verse. Wednesday evenings at 6:30 PM. Please come and join us as we discuss “the Greatest Letter Ever Written.”
Sunday Mornings Bible Study 9:45 AM
You know it is often very, very difficult to trust God with the things that matter most to you--money, career, marriage, health. As you study the book of Exodus, you'll see that Israel faced similar struggles to trust God completely. In this story of hardship and hope, you'll discover along with Israel that God--and God alone--is worthy of our trust.
John Knox Thursday Bible Study 9:30 AM
Hebrews was a sermon for a specific people and culture during martyrdom and persecution, but is also so relevant for us today, reminding us to continue walking toward Jesus regardless of our culture or our circumstances. Join us as we journey through this bridge between the Old and New Testaments to get to the heart of the matter: Jesus is our accessible King. John Knox Bible Study will not meet in June, July and August, but will resume in September.
The meeting on May 24th has been cancelled.

LWML (Lutheran Womens Missionary League) The topic for May 2018 Circle Meetings is in the Spring Quarterly on Page 18, entitled “Struggling with the Influence of Technology”, authored by Dr. Maryann Waldon. Dr Waldon is an active LWML member at her church, Hope Lutheran, in Friendswood, TX. She is married, has five (5) children two (2) step-children, 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. L.U.M.A. – Lutheran Urban Mission Agcncy” is a recognized non-profit faith based organization, a Mission Agency of the Missouri District LCMS and recognized service organization of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Both Missouri and Kansas Churches are incorporated in this organization. The Auxiliary of this organization is 85 years old since its conception in 1931 at the first meeting held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Then in 1923 - 18 charter members formed LMAA (Lutheran Msssion Association Auxiliary) in 1942 LMAA divided according to district lines and became incorporated in the state of Missouri as a Charitable Organization. The auxiliary has been busy with mission work during the many years with one charitable gift still being practiced today – The Easter treats and Christmas cookies delivered to Correctional Institutions. In 2005 the LMA merged with The Lutheran Mission of Good Shepard and the Auxiliary became LUMAA (Lutheran Urban Mission Agency Auxiliary). Today the 15 church auxiliary supports the work started so many years ago. And we as members of LWML are part of this organization and support their cause. Many thanks to our wonderful Punky for her contribution to this article. Maybe as we understand the work being done at LUMAA we will not hesitate to help Punky count the cookies and candy at Christmas and Easter. We thank you.

Please please bring your old eye glasses to church and place them in the container provided on the counter. Book Club The Bear and the Nightingale
By Katherine Arden
Winter lasts most of the year at the edge of the Russian wilderness, and in the long nights, Vasilisa and her siblings love to gather by the fire to listen to their nurse’s fairy tales. Above all, Vasya loves the story of Frost, the blue-eyed winter demon. Wise Russians fear him, for he claims unwary souls, and they honor the spirits that protect their homes from evil.
Then Vasya’s widowed father brings home a new wife from Moscow. Fiercely devout, Vasya’s stepmother forbids her family from honoring their household spirits, but Vasya fears what this may bring. And indeed, misfortune begins to stalk the village.
But Vasya’s stepmother only grows harsher, determined to remake the village to her liking and to groom her rebellious stepdaughter for marriage or a convent. As the village’s defenses weaken and evil from the forest creeps nearer, Vasilisa must call upon dangerous gifts she has long concealed—to protect her family from a threat sprung to life from her nurse’s most frightening tales

Youth this month will be going to Worlds of Fun. We will be meeting on May 20th, 30ish
minutes after second service (Taylor has a quick VBS meeting before we can go) If you
have a Gold Pass bring it, and some money for lunch. Invite a friend! Let Taylor know if
you’re planning on coming!
In years past we have done a food donation to help cover the snack portion of VBS, this year we will be simply doing a monetary donation for the food. This gives our volunteers, who will be helping in the kitchen the ability to purchase the food themselves and avoid any confusion.
We are also asking that if you are willing to let us borrow some farm themed decorations or props to let us know. Contact Taylor Stichler or Lisa Thornton with any questions!

Three New Books for the Library
The Book Club at Peace recently enjoyed reading The Centurion’s Wife by Janette
Oke and Davis Bunn. It is a personal story of Leah, compelled into a betrothal
she never wanted, drawn by a faith she never expected. The book is a sweeping
saga of the dramatic events surrounding the birth of Christianity.
What the book club members didn’t realize was that it was just the first of a
trilogy entitled Acts of Faith. The second book The Hidden Flame is about Abigail, while the third book The
Damascus Way is about Julia.
Interwoven throughout the books is an accurate and exciting story of the early church – and the peace that
encompasses Christ’s followers.
Be the first to enjoy these three new additions to the library.

Tax Season is Over for 2017, but…
Yes, we can all breathe a collective sigh – it’s over for 365 more days. But it’s
always there. You might be thinking how can I better manage my money? Check
out the latest addition to the Lutheran Hour Spinner entitled “Managing Your
Money – Financial Freedom”. Someone who has struggled first-hand with
financial failure writes this booklet. It explores the emotional component of money problems and provides
practical money management tools to help you gain clarity and hope for your financial future.
The second addition is entitled “The Bible What? When? Why? “
In this Project Connect booklet, you will learn about the many smaller texts within the Bible that form the
Scriptures as a whole. These texts (i.e. the individual books of the Bible) are divided into two sections, or
testaments, and the books in each testament are arranged in a particular order. Together they comprise the
Word of God given to mankind. They speak of God’s work in the world, His righteous character and the
sacrificial offering of His Son, Jesus Christ, to save the world from its sin.
This might be a great way to open up a conversation with a neighbor or friend who you’ve wanted to bring
closer to Christ.
Thrivent Members
a reminder that each member has the opportunity to lead 2 Action Teams per year! This is just another way that Thrivent is committed to giving back to the community. As a Thrivent member you can apply at Thrivent.com/Actionteam and will receive $250 twice a year for a service project, seed money for a fundraiser, or educational event. What a great opportunity for you to help meet a need in your community or church! Some ways Thrivent members at Peace have used their Action Team money: Easter Breakfast, bake sales, Beautiful Savior fundraiser, books for preschoolers, Thanksgiving
meals for preschool staff and student families, quilts for girls at Ozanam, cookie sale fundraiser for cots for preschool, Fun Festival for 20th anniversary of Grow in Peace, supplies to tie blankets for mission projects and more. So whatever you have a passion for, whatever you are involved in (things like stocking a food pantry, a coat drive, ads for local church events or services, quilting supplies, improvements & repairs at church or for elderly, scouts, mission trips, Advent meals, bake sales, homeless kits, VBS supplies, Thanksgiving turkeys or meals) – use your imagination and think of a way that you can help make an impact with your $250 seed money. Not a Thrivent member? Share your service idea with a Thrivent member or representative or call Theresa (816-518-1365) or Dave Heimsoth (913-323-1354).
