Co-operative Sports Agreement:
I am writing to you to provide current information regarding a possible NSAA co-operative agreement between Allen Consolidated Schools and Wakefield Public School. For the last three years Allen board mem-bers and administration have held meetings with area schools looking for the best possible partnership for a co-operative agreement that addresses the issues of declining student enrollment and student participation in specific extra-curricular activities. The board committee that has been conducting these meetings is going to recommend to the entire Board of Education that a formal NSAA agreement with Wakefield Public School be voted on at the May Board of Education meeting. The resolution will include the following extra-curricular activities for the 2018-2019 school year: Junior High Football, Junior High Wrestling, Junior High Volley-ball, Junior High Boys and Girls Basketball, Varsity Volleyball, Varsity Girls Basketball, Varsity Wrestling, Varsity Boys and Girls Golf. If passed, this resolution will be active for two consecutive years.
Highlights of the agreement include:
Team Name: The name for the sport’s teams included in the co-operative agreement will be “Wakefield –
Allen Trojans”. Their title will be used on programs as well as the official name listed on the NSAA resolution.
Team Colors: Maroon, white, and gold will be the official team colors.
Team Uniforms: New uniforms will be purchased for varsity girls’ sports. Costs will be shared equally be-tween the two school districts. Other sports included in the co-operative agreement, will have pur-chased on an “as needed”/rotation basis. Costs will be shared equally.
Wakefield will serve as the Host School as identified on the NSAA resolution.
Each school will provide at least one or two coaches in each sport. (This will accommodate increased stu-dent numbers.)
Head Coaches will be determined by administration from both districts.
Coaching costs will be paid based upon each school’s extra-curricular salary schedule for their coach.
Games of shared sports will follow the Wakefield schedule.
Home games will be played in Wakefield. We are planning to hold games when appropriate in Allen. Single basketball games or possibly a triangular volleyball match may be played in Allen.
Practice will be held in Wakefield; however, Allen facilities will be available and used when appropriate.
Potential and anticipated costs will be shared equally by both districts.
Wakefield’s Student Code of Conduct, Eligibility, and Drug Testing policies will be used for the agreed-upon sports.
Allen and Wakefield believe this co-operative agreement is in the best interest of the district as a whole and for both communities.
We are looking at working together in other areas in addition to athletics. Curricular programs, as well as fine arts activities, will be evaluated annually.
Overall, the desire of each school’s Board of Education is to continue to build positive relationships which benefit both districts and ensure viability for future years.
Regular meetings will be held between the board committees as well as administrative teams to evaluate the proposed co-operative agreements, as well as developing a process for possible expansion to in-clude other areas.
Mr. Michael Pattee, Superintendent

Difficult as it is to believe, the 2017-18 school year is drawing to a close. Hopefully by now, we are all seeing some warmth and sunshine! It has been a wonderful year, and Allen students and teachers have been keeping extremely busy this spring between numerous activities and events. Just since Christmas, we have had students compete and receive honors in academic contests, district music contest, science fair competitions, speech contest, wrestling, basketball and track! We have also re-cently completed our state NSCAS testing, spring MAP testing, and our statewide ACT testing for jun-iors. I would like to point out several important upcoming events here at school. We will be honoring students at the Science Showcase/National Honor Society/Academic Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, May 1, at 5:45 p.m. in the Allen Gym. We will be starting the evening with a science fundraiser meal from 5:45 to 6:30 pm, followed by NHS Induction at 6:30 pm with awards to follow, and concluding with an open-house showing of student science fair and art projects until 8:30 pm. Please join us in helping to congratulate these students who have worked hard all year and achieved in the classroom! Semester tests will be given on Monday (periods 2, 4, 6, 8, and 1) and Tuesday (periods 3, 5, and 7), May 21-22, 2018. Please encourage your students to be studying, but also to be getting adequate rest during this time. We are also looking ahead to the 2018-19 school year, and students in grades 6-11 have just reg-istered for next year’s classes. By now, parents should have seen and signed the registration request sheet, but changes can still be made over the summer and during drop/add at the start of the school year. Over the summer, I will go through each high school student’s schedule one by one, and do a credit check to make sure graduation requirements are being met. If you have any questions about course requests or requirements, please contact me here at school. I would love to discuss your stu-dent’s schedule and options with you. Allen High School commencement exercises will be held on Saturday, May 12th, at 2 p.m. Our seniors have reached the end of their high school educational career here at Allen, but it is just the beginning of their adult life. Congratulations to seniors, and senior parents as well! We are so excit-ed for them as they embark on this new journey of lifelong learning, and wish them the best in what-ever their futures hold. --Lana Oswald

Safety / Crisis Information
The Nebraska Department of Educa-
tion is in the process of unifying language for
safety procedures across schools in the state.
The procedures requiring action are called
“Standard Response Protocol” and consist of 4
main actions—lockout, lockdown, evacuate, and shelter. According to NDE, the Standard Response Protocol “is the uniform
classroom immediate response to any incident. Protocol not only enables rapid response determination when an unforeseen
incident occurs but also allows for a more predictable series of actions as an incident unfolds. By standardizing the vocabulary,
everyone immediately involved can understand the response and status of the incident.”
Here at school, we will be practicing drills based on these four actions and discussing ways to improve our response
effectiveness and timing. If you come to school and see a sign on the door, it will give information and indicate the type of drill
being practiced. Please don’t be alarmed, and just know that we are practicing so that we can better protect our students.
Seniors . .. Borrow wisely for college!!
Review these tips before you decide how much to borrow in student loans:
◊ Borrow only what you need, even if it’s less than the amount offered in your award letter.
◊ Try to use your student loan money only for tuition, room and board, books and fees. Get a part-time job during
college to pay other expenses.
◊ Apply for financial aid each year you attend college by completing the FAFSA.
◊ Continue to look for scholarships while you’re in college.
◊ Keep track of your student loan debt throughout college at nsids.ed.gov.
To learn more, read the EducationQuest Blog article: “Student Loan Refresher” and see the “Paying for College” section at Educa-
tionQuest.org.

Attention all Allen alumni!Attention all Allen alumni!
We are in the process of putting together a board or banner that honors all past valedictorians, salutatori-
ans, and students who scored 30 or higher on the ACT test. Our goal is to be as accurate as possible based
on our records as well as yearbooks that we have on hand, but we are missing some years, and we believe
that not all ACT data were kept in student files in the distant past.
Please call Lana Oswald at (402) 635-2484 or email at [email protected].
We have updated these forms - if you have any corrections or additions please let me know!
Thank you!

son, Alyssa Boese, Noah Carr, Maddy Con-
not, Brock Floyd, Josh Grone, Bri Hingst,
Summer Jackson, Heidi Johnson, Brogan
Jones, Brook Krommenhoek, Lukas Oswald,
Diana Rivera, and Libby Whipple. Dear Parent,
We would like to use an app called “REMIND” to relay band and music information to students and
parents and avoid using the school ADT system which notifies ALL parents in the district. We are hoping to
cut down on the number of ADT calls that people receive, but still share important information with parents
and students. The information can come via text messages, mobile app notifications, or email, depending on
how you choose to join, and your cell number and/or email is NOT seen by anyone else—you supply it, but it
remains hidden within the program. PLEASE BE AWARE that if you change cell numbers or email addresses,
you will need to rejoin the remind group.
The way it works:
TO GET TEXT NOTIFICATIONS: Join by text: Participants text a unique class code to a Remind phone number. For U.S teachers, the Remind number is 81010. For example, if you wanted to join jazz band with the class code @42ggfd, you would text @42ggfd to 81010. You'll get a response with more instructions. Join online: Visit remind.com/join and enter the class code along with your mobile phone num-
ber. You'll get text notifications at the number you entered.
TO GET MOBILE APP NOTIFICATIONS: Download the mobile app for iOS and Android devices
and create a new account (or log in if you already have one.) To join a class, tap the + by Classes
Joined and either join with your class code or search for your class. You'll automatically get app
notifications.
TO GET EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS:
Join online: Visit remind.com/join and enter the class code and your email address. Join from your inbox: Send a blank email to “[email protected]”. If the class code was @42ggfd, for example, you'd send a blank email to [email protected]. (You would NOT put the @ at the beginning of the address.) You'll get a response with more instructions.
There are THREE groups that you can join – you may join only one or multiple groups, you just need to
follow the steps above for each class you which to join. The codes for those classes are:
Thank you so much for your support!

Be a Volunteer! Becoming a school volunteer can
be one of the most rewarding experiences in life. Sharing a spe-
cial talent, reading a book to a student, assisting the school librari-an, helping to put up an interesting
bulletin board for the classroom teacher, or helping chaperone on a field trip are all ways that one can
serve as a school volunteer. Volunteers are made up of par-
ents, grandparents, business peo-ple, retirees, high school students, and other community members. They can volunteer on a regular basis or on special occasions. If you would like to volunteer
please call the school at (402) 635-2484.
Do you have a child who will be
4-years-old by July 31, 2018?
If you do, it is time to start thinking
about Preschool.
The 2018-2019 school year will be our seventh year
of preschool in Allen.
Although it seems like all play, preschool also offers certain
benefits to children to experience. These experiences include
helping to boost cognitive and motor development, enhanc-
ing social skills, and increasing independence.
A preschool education helps build a foundation of learning
that will follow your child into her/her school years.
If you would like to enroll your child in preschool for the
2018-2019 school year, please call the school for
information. (402) 635-2484
Prospective Preschoolers for 2018-19 are:
Landri Anderson, Maxsen Ankeny, Bryon
Eisenhauer, Paisllie Erwin, Luke Garrad,
Joe Kinzey, Liberty Schroeder,
Paxton Peterson, and Elsie Wortman.
