Living Our Quality of Life with High Quality Fuel By Jordana Kennedy

These days everyone is

talking about whole foods!

And so we should be.

Since the 1950’s our society in North American culture has

been moving slowly away from eating real food. We have

become dependent upon eating prepackaged, convenient,

yet nutritionally void, edible products. It has gotten so bad

that tomato sauce on pizza is considered a vegetable serv-

ing for school lunch programs.

The truth is, this is what is making our society sick. Eating

meat, dairy, animal product heavy diets with very little

fresh vegetables, fruits, nuts, unrefined grains and seeds,

has depleted our bodies to the point that we are essentially

processed people. Oh right, don’t forget we are happily

spending more money on processed vitamins for the cher-

ry on top.

No matter what nice clothes and fancy skin products we

put on our bodies, our cells are craving real food. Food that

is full of natural vitamins and minerals to make us glow

from the inside out.

About 3 years ago I started a business called GreenBelly-

Chef.com. I was inspired to teach people the benefits of

making living plant foods the basis of our diet. I am not

alone in this movement. There are countless documen-

taries, books and internet advocates for living a whole

foods plant based lifestyle.

Food a

nd F

un

The main issues people face with this type

of lifestyle is “I can’t cook, I don’t have time,

and it’s too expensive”.

My answers are simple. It’s easier than you

think! I promise.

You can’t afford to leave your health up to

some major corporation that is profit driv-

en. Honestly, you spend so much less when

you are not focusing on processed foods,

meats and dairy.

Plants are actually cheap. You just have to

find the right ones.

Page 5: May/ June final issue 2014

4

There are thousands of awesome recipe blogs out

there. I actually don’t blog and create new recipes.

There are tons of existing options. I educate and

enlighten others on the preventative health bene-

fits that are available to anyone that wants it.

I simplify and demystify the facts about what is

good to eat. And I make it easy for you to make it

your own.

My favorite blog of all time is

www.ohsheglows.com. Angela makes recipes so

easy based on excellent whole foods. Over the

years I have enjoyed her creativity, and I have nev-

er been disappointed.

It has been documented that most of the popula-

tion spends 70% of their medical health insurance

in the last 3 years of their lives. So many people are

walking around feeling about 40-60% of their possi-

ble vitality, experiencing some kind of pain, inflam-

mation, or illness.

I propose that you spend a greater portion of your

budget on the fuel you put into your body and less

on what you paint, rub, dress, decorate, tattoo, and

accentuate your body with.

Now I learned a long time ago that most of our cul-

ture just will not give up meat or dairy. Regardless

of how good this could make them feel and the

documented health benefits, these foods are simp-

ly too ingrained into our identity and culture. I pro-

pose you simply focus on eating plants, and put less

emphasis on the animal products in your diet.

Eating organic meats and dairy solely and only

eating them a few times a week is a great place to

start. Fish and seafood is not a better choice, don’t

be fooled. We really don’t need to eat protein eve-

ry meal of every day. High protein diets are actually

dangerous for our heath. We need to give up

eating these foods for macronutrient value, and

simply eating them because they are a treat that

we enjoy.

We have been totally brainwashed to think that

meat, especially lean meats are a necessity. This

simply isn’t the case. Learn more at

www.forksoverknives.com and start learning the

truth about eating plants and the natural phyto-

chemicals that come in them.

How about eating only your favorite animal prod-

ucts? Moving towards being a weekday vegetarian,

or an “occasionatarian”? This is obtainable for eve-

ryone, and believe it or not the less animal prod-

ucts you eat, the less you crave, or want to eat.

When you do eat animal products, how about

eating small amounts so you savor every bite, and

really enjoy the food for what it is? Respecting all

the energy that went into growing, raising, and de-

livering it from the farm to your table. Get away

from foods that move from the chemistry lab, to

the factory, to your pantry.

When you do feel like a chocolate covered treat,

eat it, and enjoy it and then get right back on the

real food train.

You will learn much more about all the

free information available to you on my

blog www.greenbellychef.com, and my

Facebook Page: Green Belly Chef. I am

also on Twitter, Instagram, and Linkedin. I

review documentaries, books, blogs and

share recipes I try and approve. Coming

soon will be downloadable diet counsel-

ing plans.

So maybe these are new ideas to you,

and I am excited for what you are about

to learn and live. Maybe these are already

practices you hold. Maybe you think I am

nuts, and are happy with the way you eat

and live. All I know is that I ate the stand-

ard American Diet (SAD) for most of my

life and so did my husband. It actually has

been a ten year journey for me to get to a

point where I know that processed food is

dangerous to my health. This knowledge

far out weights the brief enjoyment I

would get on my taste buds. It takes my

body hours to digest what takes me mo-

ments to ingest.

I figure since this is the only body I get

and it’s the only thing that is sticking with

me till the day that I die, I better give it

the right fuel to keep going instead of

bogging it down with the wrong low oc-

tane gas. Literally since most processed

food ingredients actually come from oil,

nasty.

My diet counseling leads others to focus on eating

from the fresh side of the fridge and relies very little on the freezer and

pantry.

Fill your fridge with easy foods you can grab and eat, so you will be

eating more fresh living foods that will bring life and nutrients to your

body. Try something new each week. Rotate in one new fruit, nut, vege-

table and move out one animal product. If you totally can’t live without

yogurt, don’t start there. Instead choose to not eat cottage cheese from

now on, even if it is available at a party. As much as there may be issues

with the organic food chain, it is so much cleaner than the conventional

farming food industry. Pesticides, herbicides and sewage sludge really

are as bad as you think. We should not be eating petro (oil) chemicals!

No matter what anyone says. Organic food costs more because that is

how much growing food actually costs, when you do it the natural way.

Sure organics are a trendy and successful industry, but with the public

demanding more and more of these foods, the prices are coming down,

and the access with continue to grow. You hold the power with your

purchases.

The best way to really be connected to your food and to protect your-

self from thousands of chemicals is to find a farm that you can buy from.

Meet your farmer and find out what he thinks about growing your food.

I found the most amazing organic farm just outside Phoenix in the west

valley. BlueSkyOrganicFarms.com, is the most amazing, organic, inte-

gral, family owned farm I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and

enjoying. I will always be grateful for the efforts, early mornings, re-

search and love these farmers put into the food that has nourished my

family for the last 3 years.

Here comes summer, Quicker than we would all like. For most, it’s taking vacations; BBQ’s and fun in the sun. It is

a great time to sun time with the family. People wait all year to be able to enjoy the outdoor ac-

tives in the sun. Pool parties, swimming, and maybe a trip to the lake are great water activities but

as we all know comes great responsibility. It’s important to watch your children around water.

Sometimes we take it for granite that the gate is locked or we say they know how to swim. But the

truth is that most accidents that happen are not for these reasons, because of the adults being pre

-occupied and not paying attention. Many times we are just engaged in the now. Summer months

are meant for fun. Here are a few water safety tips to ensure a fun fill summer around water.

Make sure there is an adult present at all times, Hopefully, with some CPR training just

in case. If you have a pool party; elect someone to be the lifeguard. Have some fun let them dress

the part. Get others involved.

Provide safe activities for the kids. When at the pool make games that involve

floating devices, at the lake use small portable rafts with life vests.

Establish rules for your family and enforce them. Set limits based on each per-

son’s ability, do not let anyone play around drains and suction fittings, and do not allow swimmers

to hyperventilate before swimming under water and have breath-holding contests.

Fun in the Sun!

Even if you do not plan on swimming, be cautious

around natural bodies of water including ocean shoreline, rivers and lakes. Cold temperatures, currents and underwater hazards can make a fall into these bodies of water dangerous.

Avoid alcohol use. Alcohol impairs judgment, balance and

coordination; affects swimming and diving skills; and reduces the body’s ability to stay warm. Stay safe not just around water but all the time. Our children are so precious, let’s take care of them.

In 1979, I was 25 living in Atlanta and miserable… even though I was a rising

star in the Big Eight Accounting Firm where I worked. It seemed that I was either in the car

driving to work or working. I had no time for a social life and I kept thinking that if I

was going to be working that hard, it should be for something I owned. I had grown

up in an entrepreneurial home and seen my parents build businesses and invest in

real estate. But my plan had been different. My parents dream was that I would get

a college degree and climb the professional corporate ladder somewhere...and

things were going well for me according to that plan…except I was miserable.

My own entrepreneurial spirit hit me over the head one night. A client called me on the phone and

offered me an ownership position in a company he was investing in located in New Hampshire. It had

an innovative new technology and I had the opportunity to get in on the ground floor. How exciting!

So I remember sitting on my bed with a tablet writing the pros and cons of changing professions.

Did it have a large upside? Yes. Could I always come back to public accounting? Yes. This was as far as I

got and suddenly my hand took over and wrote across the top of the page “WHY NOT?”

I stared at the page for the longest time…and realized I couldn’t answer that question. Instead of being

a conservative accountant wanting all the answers to the question “WHY?”, I decided to take a leap of

faith and say, “Why Not!” Ever since, this has been my personal mantra and the question Why Not is

always a part of my decision making process.

Not too long after, I realized that this company was a mess and my professional credentials were at risk

as a result of financial omissions and corruption within the organization. One day I returned to the

company and found lawyers at our offices, lawyers from the opposing side of a legal action that had

been started well before I had joined the company. They were performing “discovery” which means

they were looking through our documents to find evidence to support their claims in the case. The

lawyers had been kind enough to wait for me to return to go through my office and apparently had

“elected” one attorney to search my office. His name was Michael Lechter.

Yes, I met my future husband when he was “going through my drawers!”…literally! He was sitting in my

desk chair when I came in and we shook hands over my desk…and there was an electric shock that we

both felt. It truly was “Love at first sight!”

While at the

time it seemed like I had

made the biggest mistake of

my life trading my public

accounting

career for one of entrepre-

neurship, it turned out to be

one of the best decisions

because I met the love

of my life. Michael and I

were married nine months

later and are celebrating 34

years together this year

and I have made a career of

entrepreneurship, which

has been immensely ful-

filling.

Over the years I have built

several companies and been

a part of global brands such

as Rich Dad and The

Napoleon Hill Foundation. I

would not have enjoyed this

level of success without

asking myself that

important question while

sitting on my bed in 1979.

But like many successful

women, I had to overcome

some challenges along the

way.

One of the questions that I

am most often asked is how I have been

able to achieve work life balance.

Several years ago a member of my own

team, a young woman that I have men-

tored and have had the

pleasure of watching grow as a profes-

sional and a woman passionate about

what she does, came to me

for guidance on this very subject. A

young mother, she was already experiencing the struggle that

many

women do to figure out how much work and family time is the

right mix. This is an issue that I struggled

with myself for many years. When I was working, I worried that I

was not with my family and when I was

with my family, I worried that I should have been working. I spent

many years caught in this cycle and lost

countless hours to worry and anxiety over the idea of having

“balance”. I finally realized that my guilt and

worry was really the result of an expectation that came from some-

where other than myself. With this came

the realization that rather than searching for the right balance,

women are better suited pursuing satisfaction

n in all areas of our life- and then applying the mix of work and

family life that gets us there. What works for

me is not necessarily right for another woman and what works for

another woman may not be the right

combination for me. But neither strategy is wrong, because it is

right for us individually. Book Release

Instead of seeking work/life balance, I want women to seek ONE BIG LIFE! This is why I have written

Think and Grow Rich for Women. The book celebrates women who through their wisdom,

encouragement and enthusiasm have helped other women and provides a blueprint for women to

define and achieve their goals, live their dreams, overcome obstacles, and seize opportunities. I want to

replace the “work-life balance” guilt trip that so many women struggle over with the desire to live “one

big life” filled with love, family, success, and significance.

The original Think and Grow Rich was written by Napoleon Hill in 1937 from a male perspective, when all

of the titans of business were men. While the steps to realizing success are the same for men and

women, I believe we approach those steps very differently from men. Think and Grow Rich for Women

applies Napoleon Hill’s wealth-building principles to the lives of modern women, combining Hill’s classic

13 Steps to Success with the insights and experience gathered from hundreds of remarkable women--

including Sandra Day O’Connor, Angela Merkel, Condoleezza Rice, Tory Burch, Mary Kay Ash, and Ginni

Rometty.

My vision for this book is that we change the dialogue from negativity about the

work that is still to be done (and there is still work to be done) for women and the

need for more female leadership… to a conversation where we celebrate how far

we have come and built from the momentum that has been created for women in

education, business and in economic leadership. By changing our dialogue from

negative to positive we will see even greater strides in female leadership…and see it

much more quickly.

Think and Grow Rich for Women will be released on June 17th and is available now for pre-order at

www.sharonlechter.com/women. Each pre-order comes with a valuable bonus gift and the book

includes a fabulous resource guide to get women started on their next steps to success!

May you be blessed with success!

When you think of using trade in your business you’re probably

thinking of the last time you attempted to create a one-to-one agreement

with another vendor for a specific job or occasion, using goods or services

as payment instead of cash, right? While this type of agreement can work,

more than often it does not. One or the other party winds up feeling as if

they put more time or effort or value into the agreement than the other.

And yet, corporations use trade all the time, quite legally and ethically, to

not only builds their businesses but to enjoy perks such as jets, vacations,

cars and more. How do they do it?

Instant Barter, LLC is teaching businesses and every-day citizens

how to tap into and leverage trade every day. What does it look like? Ra-

ther than trading time, services or products, the value of those tradable

goods is turned into Trade Dollars at a $1 for $1 ratio. So,

“A” may have something that is worth $300 to trade, “B”

may have something worth $100 to trade, and “C” may

have something worth $1,000 to trade. Could they work

together easily in a standard trade relationship? Not likely

and definitely not easily. But turning the value of those

items into Trade Dollars allows that value to be traded just

like cash. Now imagine that ability to trade expanded to

100,000s of businesses around the world in an online,

searchable marketplace that is easily tapped into. What

happens?

A couple approaches INSTANT BARTER about help-

ing with their wedding. We handle the flowers, rings, dress,

tux, music, cake, caterer, photographer, video, venue and

even a photo booth for fun! How much did we just save

this couple and their families, thousands! It is a simple ex-

ample of using the power of trade to have a better event

while not breaking your bank account. We can do this with

any event, business or even for private individuals. IN-

STANT BARTER has even worked on movies expanding their

budget to help them out as well.

That’s just one example. There are thousands of

examples every day of people being able to buy gifts for

themselves, family, friends and clients, take care of medical

issues, and buy cars and much more! “Barter is a POWERFUL

tool IF it is used correctly” Ana Hawk (CEO/ FOUNDER of

www.InstantBarter.com) is always saying. “Expanding your

mind and accepting a different economy is just smart busi-

ness in this or any economy,” Hawk says. “We want to ex-

plain to people that in the 70s-80s in the heyday of business,

when everything was bonus, just for doing a good job. What

most people do not realize is that was all trade! It does not

matter what the economy is doing, you can have that life-

style now for you, your family and especially for your busi-

ness and employees.”

What Instant Barter is finding now is that people have a lot

of questions about how barter works. “Barter is the Original

economy, having started civilization. People just need to see

it as the currency it is. The true definition of currency is

something you and I agree has value and we trade.” Hawk

says.

The New Economy

Imagine an entire generation of kids growing up knowing how to leverage

trade and save their cash.” www.MyBarterGame.com

Barter is growing like wildfire too. Instant Barter, LLC is just over three years old

and yet is already in 11 countries around the world. To truly serve their customers

and help people make the most out of their trade dollars, Instant Barter is expand-

ing their corporate offices into new regions, training more quality representatives

and offering even more opportunities to take barter to the next level.

The “BARTER AS A POWERFUL TOOL IN BUSINESS and LIFE” is

coming soon; an accredited training course for businesses to learn how to leverage

trade to grow their business. It includes modules on taxes, cases studies and more.

It will be available online, as well as in-person in select areas, and provides stu-

dents with one credit hour of college level credit in business.

Growth for Instant Barter means new opportunities for its clients and customers as

well. Partnerships are being formed to bring in airline tickets, furniture, and addi-

tional perks that were once only available to large corporations. There’s also the

start of filming for a TV pilot, to show people how to use and utilize what they have

to get what they need.

While the cash economy makes a sluggish come-back, there is a new economy that

has been healthy and strong, and is only getting stronger. Trade is the original

economy. Today, it is a recognized form of currency that is acknowledged and ac-

cepted by the IRS and has stood up under scrutiny in court. And, it’s available to

you to start building the life you’ve been dreaming of – without having to wait for

the rest of the economy to catch up. Contact www.InstantBarter.com for a free 15

minute assessment of what you can trade, what you should trade and how it could

dramatically impact your life in a massively positive way.

When we start to think about fashion here in the desert, one might envision Southwestern

styles to Wranglers and cowboys boots possibly adorned with a cactus or a gecko. And of course, let's

not forget the bolo tie. Way back in time, this might have been the style. Well not anymore.  Arizona

has etched its mark in the world of fashion with its very own unique styles from some local on‐the‐

move trendy boutiques. If you can't afford a new spring wardrobe nor want to auction off your first

born, there are a few simple tricks to sprucing up your existing wardrobe. One true benefit of living in

the valley of the sun is transforming a winter wardrobe into spring. Its relatively simple. Arizonians

battle the harsh winter (low of 52 degrees) by layering our tops or adding a cute furry vest with your

favorite denim to show off your own style. But now that spring is upon us, it's time to shed some of

those layers. Ditch the vest and add a floral print or a lightweight colorful scarf to accentuate your

look.

It's That Time of Year

       I had the pleasure of

attending the Phoenix Fashion

Week 2014 Spring into Fashion

event recently, and was wowed

off my feet. When I feel spring in

the air I think maxi dresses, big

floppy hats, bangles and a

favorite pair of hoop earrings.

Locally owned and operated

Clothes Minded Boutique carries

some eye‐catching and most

unique styles for this spring

season. This floral maxi dress is

the epitome of springtime. Paired

with a floppy hat, you are ready

to be out and about by day. OR

switch it up a bit by exchanging

the floppy hat for long gold

chains and a sassy wedge sandal.

Then it's off to date night or

dinner with the girls.

If there is a budding fashionista within, please set her free.

DON'T be afraid to embrace all the colors this spring has to

offer. Floral prints are everywhere. Nothing screams girly like a

colorful springtime sundress. They say "orange is the new

black". I say, orange is the "IT" color this season particularly

when infused with some yummy teal and green hues. For

those of you who do not partake in the ambience of bright

ensembles can rest assure the neutral family is going nowhere.

So let's not forget to incorporate some earthy tones into your

revamped  spring wardrobe for 2014. Just you watch and see

these inviting colors all over the map.

DO keep an extra set of baubles on you to be easily switched out from daytime to night. The unique vibe

Clothes Minded Boutique brings to the fashion scene is

endless.

One of the must‐haves for this spring is definitely a

casual yet fashionable white top. If you don't have one, DO

run out and get one. This white peasant top is easily

matched up with stylish distressed denim or a maxi skirt.

Frayed denim has finally made a comeback, yeah! There's

nothing like running errands in your old tattered‐looking

denim and still look like a fashion icon. DO add a sexy pair

of basic black pumps to this shabby chic ensemble to set

the scene just right. DON'T forget to accessorize

accessorize accessorize! Bangles and my favorite hoop

earrings are a staple for my daily outfitting.

Image from Clothes Minded Boutique        For those of us with an edgier sense of style will love the Allie Ollie

Boutique. This local designer and owner boasts bright bold colors with

designs that will bring out the inner sassiness  in any woman. From

psychedelic patterns and animal prints to floral styles that suit any girl's

need. DO add one of the unique and colorful tunics to your spring attire.

They're just plain old fun! And DON'T forget to pick up a pair of Allie

Ollie leggings. It's an essential item to have on hand. Black leggings go

with almost everything. I always keep an extra pair on hand. Whatever

your taste may be, be it a dress, palazzo pants or tunics, Allie Ollie will

most definitely deliver to women of all sizes. DON'T forget to add some

AO spicy(ness) to your wardrobe.

Whether you're on a tight budget or not making the simplest of changes to enhance your new

spring look can make all the difference in the world.  DO accentuate your look by adding colorful

accessories like a scarf or a to‐die‐for piece of jewelry. There is no right or wrong to fashion so have

fun with it. Happy shopping!

veryone has a different idea of beauty. This is true because everyone has their own likes and dislikes. Decide what it

means for you. Most women agree that the best way for you to feel beautiful is for you to be comfortable in your own skin and to have confidence. Haven't you seen people who weren't that physically attractive but were so confident that they took on a special kind of beauty? That can happen for you as well. Find a beauty regiment that can give you con-fidence and allows you to walk proudly in your own shoes.

Most of us know that beauty is only sin deep. It really is how you take care of yourself and your body.

You don’t have to look like a super model to look great!

Ways to keep your

Relationship NEW!

1. Take a long walk or drive!

This can be a great time to spend undivided attention together. You

might be amazed at how effective this small gesture might be. You

don't to travel far just get a change of scenery.

2.Cook together!

Plan a meal and time for both of you to be in the kitchen. You might be

surprised at how spicy things can get in the kitchen! The hotter the

better!!

3. Be polite!

Remember to say thank you for the everyday things they do. Be supportive on all the days.

Some people live in the past that can ruin a relationship, but the truth is you have no control

over what happened in , the past nor control of the future. Live in the now and be grateful for

the ones you love. Being respectful takes less energy than being mean.

Page 27: May/ June final issue 2014

Ultimate Woman International May/ June 2014

4. Do Something out of the Norm, be

spontaneous!

Keep the spark alive in a long term relationship sex should not have to be a

chore, or something thing that you have to fit in our schedule Like Dr. Phil

said "Use it or lose it!"

5. Don’t forget your friends!

All relationships need some outside influence, not necessarily as a couple but as indi-

viduals. Stay in touch with your friends. Go out, do activities together. Although spend-

ing times with you friend may not fit into your schedule it is healthy not to depend sole-

ly on one person to make your happy.

6. Look your best!

Of course you can't look your best all the time. But remember when you first meet?

You planned your entire wardrobe on your future dates. You got your hair done, nails

feet and tried on like 10 outfits. Well keep that "first time" in mind. Get that perfect

piece of lingerie and some candles going and have fun!

Cuddle! 7.
