HE IS RISEN, INDEED!
Easter joy is still upon us as April showers turn to May flowers. (Was
up North, anyway?) Thanks to all who worked so hard to celebrate
Lent, Holy Week, and Easter. May I mention Penny Morken and
Connee Zeman who directed our passion drama on Palm Sunday,
April 9th. (See page 10.) As one of our members said, “This is
getting better and better every year!” Thanks to the cast who did
both services. Thanks to megan and all who shared their music on
Easter.
As we continue to celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the
Reformation , our Thursday Bible class watched “Rick Steeves’ Luther and the
Reformation”. The Reformation - even if you’re not a Lutheran - is a very big deal.
Rick Steeves wrote: As 2017 approached, I wanted to contribute to our society’s
appreciation of this event on its 500th anniversary. My Mission: to produce an hour
long documentary that would be useful for Lutheran churches, other Protestant
denominations, Roman catholic churches, and also secular media.” Our church has
a copy of this disk and you may borrow it. Call the church office, if interested.
NEW MEMBERS
Listed in this newsletter (pages 8 & 9), are our new members who joined on Easter
Sunday. This is always exciting, but this group of fourteen includes four little
children. What an amazing blessing. Next New Member Sunday will be July 23,
2017. I would be happy to talk to you about the Lutheran Church and the Christian
faith. Please call my cell phone: 239-687-6580.
PENTECOST SUNDAY
Sunday, June 4th, is the birthday of the Church and the infusion of the Holy Spirit
into our lives and into our Church. May we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit with
gusto! Wear red!
Thanks for your prayers for successful hernia surgery on April 20th. I’m on the mend
and hope to play golf again soon.
Alleluia - Christ is risen! He is risen, indeed!
Peace,
Pastor Doug

MAKING THE MOST OF OUR RESOURCES . . .
The Pledge . . . . . I have heard it said that a “financial gift” is more important than a “pledge.” Spiritually, on the face of it, “that is most certainly true.” But let’s look deeper. What does making a Pledge do? It provides for a church to be able to plan how the gift will be used. It provides confidence that we all believe we are moving in the right direction. It sends a message that we are able to support the mission of the church beyond our community. A Pledge is like the “ribbon on a present.” It says our church has something special inside. Let us all be “Beacons of Light”, and let us strengthen our community of faith.
Chuck Keller, Stewardship Chair
Respond-Rebuild-Rejoice!
You have responded, many thanks! We met our goal of the matching funds! Now we are in the process of obtaining estimates for carpeting, Narthex improvements, and seal coating the parking lots. With it being Florida, it takes time and patience to get companies to respond. We have installed one camera for security which covers the entrance from the inside. This equipment can be expanded with additional
cameras as needed. You will be updated on a regular basis as we make progress on our facilities improvements. Have a great summer and keep Shepherd of the Glades in your prayers.
Don Bassett, LOL Chairperson
On Maundy Thursday, April 13, there was a service in the Sanctuary with foot washing and Holy Communion at tables, reenacting the Lord’s Supper, with Pastor Lyberg and Pastor Doug. On Good Friday, April 14, there was a Tenebrae Service of Darkness, where people spoke on the “Seven Last Words of Christ”, extinguishing one candle after each word, closing the service in complete darkness.
Thanks to Pastor Lyberg, who assisted in the Maundy Thursday worship. Thanks also to Judy Kobs, Penny Morken, and Paul Smith, who spoke in the Good Friday Tenebrae Service of Darkness.

A new mower will cost approximately $6,000. Stewardship – Chuck Keller reported that the data base of giving had been updated. They are now working on updating the talent base.
