The semi annual Maple Avenue cleanup took place in April - garbage was in plentiful supply. Themost unusual find was a pair of underwear - still can’t figure that one out.Afterwards the intrepid cleaners went to the Olympic Diner and bragged about how many bagswere theirs.

I hope this message finds our readership well. I am writing in an effort to encourage our membersand readers to consider making a tax deductible charitable contribution to the FulMont RoadRunners Scholarship Fund. Those of you who participated in the Mule Haul this year were given alittle background on the scholarship fund. For the benefit of everyone else, this year the FulmontRoadrunners club celebrated its 20th year of awarding annual scholarships to well deserving collegebound local runners and in all, has contributed in excess of $20,000 in scholarship money over thatsame time period.

In my tenure as Treasurer of the club, just over 2 years now, the club has been operating at breakeven from an operating margin perspective, meaning our revenue has been just enough to cover ourcosts on an annual basis. Theoretically, we need to generate an operating income number of $1,000per year to fund the annual scholarship award, hence the reason for this campaign.

We have made concerted efforts to reduce cost whether it be limiting the number of shirts givenaway at race events or reducing the number of newsletters published in a given year. While we areholding our own and are still able to provide annual scholarship funds to those aforementioneddeserving local students, we could use a little additional help. So please consider making a taxdeductible contribution to the FulMont Road Runners Scholarship fund. A small contribution fromeach of us would provide a much needed shot in the arm to the scholarship fund balance.

Contributions can be made to the Dern Memorial Scholarship fund and sent to my attention.Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,Keith Waters, FMRRC Treasurer161 Strevy Lane

FULMONT ROADRUNNERS 2014 ROOKIE OF THE YEAR JESSIE MAE BROOKS

Jessie has been associated with FMRRC for a long time, volunteering atmany runs before she was old enough to run. Last year, she had an epiphanywhile running an 800 meter run and found her legs and hasn’t stopped since.

This year has seen her blossom as a runner.

This year she placed second in her age group at the at the Saratoga Palio 5Kand finished ahead of her longtime nemesis Lisbeth Brooks. She then finished

third overall at the Fit 5K run and first in her age group at the GreatSacandaga Road Race (50:51) and the Frostbite 5K (23:44), improving her 5K

time by over seven minutes.

Jessie is looking forward to running track and cross country this year atBroadalbin-Perth School. Her positive attitude and work ethic will

undoubtedly ensure her success as a runner. We extend our congratulationsand hearty wishes for a long and successful running career to

Jessie Mae Brooks

FULMONT ROADRUNNERS 2014 ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

JOSEPH RACZES

Joe became a runner in May 2014. When he started, he couldn’t run one mile. His prime motivations were to get healthy and be around for his kids. Since that

point, however, he has caught the “bug”that we all have.

After he started running it’s hard to find a race that he didn’t do. His runningresume includes the Mountain Valley 5K, the Lexington 5K, the Mule Haul, the

Shuttleworth Park 5K, the Toys for Tots 5K, the Melanie O’Donnell HalfMarathon, Easy Street Hoof It for the Horses, the Great Sacandaga Road Race,

and the Frostbite 5K, where he bettered his first 5K time by almost fourminutes.. This year he is planning to run a full marathon .

For this auspicious debut in 2014 we extend our congratulations and heartywishes for a long and successful running career to

Joseph Raczes

FULMONT ROADRUNNERS 2014

SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENTDIANE HANSON

Diane is a longtime runner and has been involved with FMRRC for a long time as a member and volunteer chairwoman. She started out running with 5K’s, then 10K’s, and kept on going to reach the pinnacle of longdistance running - the marathon. Usually most runners rest on that laurel, But not Diane.

This year, in a typical bout of runners delirium, she decided to try the Center of the Nation Marathon series, which consisted of running fivemarathons in five states on five consecutive days. Day one was inMontana on September 17, day two was in North Dakota, day three was inSouth Dakota, day four was in Wyoming, and day five was in Nebraska onSeptember 21st.. She averaged 5:15 through the five days and also managedto travel, rest, change clothes, and gear up for the next day.

Diane then returned home with two giant blisters where her feet used to be.

We recognize this as a special achievement and offer our hearty congratulations to

Diane Hanson

2014 Club Awards

FULMONT ROADRUNNERS 2014 SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENT LIZ ARGOTSINGER

In addition to her ongoing motivation and encouragement to all others, in all aspects of athletic activity -swimming, cycling and running just to name a few - 2014 brought a distinguished award for Liz.

In 2012 she completed her first Ironman Triathalon in Lake Placid. Not being a “one and done” type ofathlete, Liz returned in 2014 to give it another go. Despite unfavorable weather conditions this past July, Lizshaved minutes off her 112 mile cycling time and carried through the marathon with a smile, placing third in herage group.

Running a marathon by itself is a significant accomplishment, but just imagine having to swim 2.4 miles andbicycling 112 miles just as a warm up. It takes a special kind of athlete, and in recognition of that we heartilycongratulate

Liz Argotsinger

FULMONT ROADRUNNERS 2014PRESIDENTS AWARD

JANE CONSTANTINEThis year the Presidents Award goes to a most deserving

recipient. Jane Constantine has served our club in many capacitiesover the years.

Jane has done numerous stints as club secretary. She joined theclub and started out as club secretary after being drafted by MoMosher at a club banquet. She was the club treasurer for some years. She has served as volunteer chairwoman and membershipchairwoman. Wherever there was a need, it seemed like Jane wasthere to fill it. Every Mule Haul and Winter Wimp (as well as manyother Grand Prix races) Jane was there as a volunteer. Jane alsoformed the FMRRC Relay for Life team in 2010 and managed iteach year.

Jane is retiring from active participation in club affairs this year(temporarily we hope). True to form, she found her own successor asclub secretary and membership chairwoman before retiring. I wouldlike to personally thank Jane for all her years of service and extendbest wishes from all of us at FMRRC in her future endeavors.

FULMONT ROADRUNNERS 2014COMEBACK OF THE YEAR

RON ROBINSON

Ron is a dedicated runner, FMRRC member, and also along with hiswife Pat are race directors of the Johnson Jog every May.

On May 3 of this year, Ron hurt his knee doing the Run 4 the Hills inSharon Springs. The injury prevented him from running and he hadsurgery for a torn meniscus in early July, which kept him out of actionfor six more weeks. He started running again around the end of Augustand returned to action with a bang, running the HMRRC half marathonin October. He then did the On the Run 5K, finishing second in his agegroup, and finished the year with the Stockadathon, running about thesame time he had the previous year.

Anyone who has ever had a knee injury knows how tough it is to comeback. For having the determination, drive, and just not enough smartsto know when to quit, we heartily congratulate

Ron Robinson
