OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL DENVER, COLORADO Food For Faith Living from the desk of Fr. Mark

The readings of the Easter season may sound repetitious. We need to place ourselves into the tumultuous time and the mentality and lifestyle of the people. It’s much too easy to simply take what we know, believe and live now, as if that’s how it was then, or even later on. We have the wisdom of understanding and faith-living passed on from generation to generation. Yet, the essential element remains the same for us as it was for the first generation of disciples: do I believe? The answer is not a word of acceptance or an embrace of a Creed of Beliefs. It is a way of life which Jesus sought to impart on all who saw and heard Him. We know they didn’t, a testimony to human fear of the new and rejection of change, especially of heart. This is ever the challenge for each person hungering for a truth which sets us free and gives us meaning and purpose, the path to the human desire for fulfillment. It’s easy, simple, reassuring, to say Jesus is Lord. He died for our sins, rose from the dead and opened the gates of heaven for all of us. It’s the essence of faith to seek what His life, death and resurrection mean. It’s a matter of trust. Do I trust in what Jesus revealed, lived and invites us to? The foundation of faith is: God loves me, personally, intimately, unconditionally and eternally. Faith living is to do what Jesus asks us to do: Love God, neighbor, all peoples, as we love self. It’s as simple and difficult as this. The Apostles and disciples didn’t understand this. No one can. Only when the Holy Spirit enlightens and inspires do we understand, accept, appreciate and live it. That’s the bottom line meaning of today’s readings from Acts, St, Peter’s Letter and Luke’ Gospel, all expressed as powerful experiences which changed the hearts and dispelled the fears of their listeners. It is still the process today. Care to do it? It’s a free choice.

Congratulations to the newly baptized, Delorm Issac Blea, and to those who professed their faith in the Catholic Religion, Katherine ‘Germaine’ Laurienti & Sarah Ann ‘Gabriella’ Lochi. May God keep you in His loving care now and always.

RESPECT LIFE Not unlike God’s chosen people of Israel, we must humble

ourselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from our wicked ways, if we expect God to hear

from heaven, forgive our sin, and heal our land.

Scripture If My people who are called by My Name will humble themselves, and

pray and seek My Face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven,

and forgive their sin and heal their land. — 2 Chronicles 7:14
