Stephen passedaway Thursday,April 25, 2013, atBlodgett Hospi-tal in Grand Rapids.Steve was born August

29, 1941 in Royal Oak to Floyd and Betty(Michael) Kantz. He grew up in Williams-burg, MI. Steve graduated from MichiganState University and Wayne State Univer-sity Law School. He was an Army veteranof the Vietnam War era. In 1970 he startedpracticing law in Allegan with Leo Hoff-man. In 1973 he opened his own office ina double wide on the point of Jeffersonand Lincoln Roads. In his spare time frompracticing law, he built the brick buildingthat still stands on that corner. He retiredin 2006. Steve truly enjoyed working withpeople in Otsego, Plainwell and surround-ing communities in Allegan county. Hecalled himself a ‘Country Lawyer’. Steveloved power boating on Lake Michigan.He was a charter member of Deep HarborMarina. His boat was named The LawMerchant. Steve and Sandy enjoyedmany friendships and comraderie at themarina. He was a member of the AlleganCounty Bar Association during his yearsof practicing law. Steve ate dinner at theElks Club on Wednesday nights where hehad been a member since the 1970’s.While a teenager, he became an amateurradio club member with a squawkingnoise going on late into the night. There’sa ‘Radio Room’ still at home at LakeDoster. Steve joined the Kazooski Skiclub in the 1970’s. He and Sandy enjoyedmany friendships and trips to Bittersweet,up north, Utah and Nevada. In the lastfew years, Steve enjoyed playing cards inthe Allegan County Bridge Club. Also inthe 1970’s, he played tennis at West HillsAthletic club. Steve played championshiptennis at Traverse City High School. Otherformer memberships include Otsego Ro-tary Club and Otsego Chamber of Com-merce. On June 24, 1990 on their boat inthe cove at Saugatuck, Steve marriedSandra ‘Sandy’ Adams (Anderson) whosurvives. Also surviving are a daughter,Rochelle (Tim) Gargus of South Haven; 3grandchildren, Madison, Bryce and Har-rison; a step-son Michael (Laura) Adamsof Chicago; an adopted son, Christopher(Sara) Dent of Georgia; a sister, Nancy(Paul) Deal of Texas; a brother, Dennis(Dawn) Kantz of North Carolina; severalnieces and nephews. He was preceded indeath by his parents and a twin brother.Cremation has taken place. Funeral serv-ices were held Wednesday, May 1, 2013at the

Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, with a memorial officiated by Rev. DanielFacemyer. In lieu of flowers, memorialcontributions may be made to the KidneyFoundation or the Heart Association.
