O Mary,

you always brighten our path of salvation

and of hope.

We entrust ourselves to you, health of the sick,

who, at the Cross, took part in Jesus’ pain

while remaining steadfast in faith.

O loving Mother, you know what we need,

and we are confident you will provide for us

as at Cana in Galilee.

Intercede for us with your Son Jesus, the Divine Physician,

for those who have fallen ill, for those who are vulnerable,

and for those who have died.

Intercede also for those charged with protecting the health and

safety of others and for those who are tending to the sick

and seeking a cure.

Help us, O Mother of Divine Love,

to conform to the will of the Father

and to do as we are told by Jesus,

who took upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows,

so as to lead us, through the Cross,

to the glory of the Resurrection.

Amen.

Under thy protection we seek refuge, O Holy Mother of God.

In our needs, despise not our petitions,

but deliver us always from all dangers,

O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.

(Adapted from the prayer of Pope Francis)

A PRAYER FOR PROTECTION

IN TIME OF PANDEMIC

AN ACT OF

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus,

I believe that you are present

in the most Blessed Sacrament.

I love you above all things

and I desire to receive you into my soul.

Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace you as if you were already there,

and unite myself wholly to you.

Never permit me to be separated from you.

Amen.

May 31, 2020 - Pentecost Sunday Throughout our readings today, we see the amazing truth that the Holy Spirit gives us gifts and guidance in a very personal way. We are meant to use these gifts to build up the body of Christ in a way that is unique to each one of us.

Our first reading, from the Acts of the Apos-tles, recalls the dramatic moment when the Holy Spirit was poured out upon the apos-tles. “Suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to pro-claim.”

Notice how personal and individual is this outpouring of the Spirit. This personalized way of “gifting” the apostles allowed them each to reach different people, sharing with them the “mighty acts of God.” Embracing the stewardship way of life means that we allow the Holy Spirit to guide us in the best use of the unique gifts he has given to each of us, to accomplish the particular mission entrusted to us.

Jesus gives us this mission in our Gospel passage from John. “As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” But we must not let this responsibility overwhelm us. Jesus him-self, tells us so — “Peace be with you.”

As this Easter season comes to a close, let us be at peace and let us resolve to lean on the Holy Spirit more and more as our guide through the stewardship way of life.
