Beatriz: Collaborating with the Senegalese Public Health System in response to COVID-19

Beatriz was sent by Médicos del Mundo to Senegal, as a Senior EU Aid Volunteer in Medical Quality of the Public Health Institutions. Through this project, they seek to strengthen local capacities, both at the institutional and community level by the promotion of the Right to Health of the most vulnerable, marginalized and excluded groups in the region of Dakar in Senegal.

“…I have joined a COVID-19 work team, as a “focal point”, as such I am in charge of epidemiological data management, participation in various work forums, coordination with those responsible for health districts, training for health workers and community actors, technical assistance for activities as well as being responsible for training the members of the MdM Senegal team to avoid their contagion. The experience has been very gratifying for me and of great help for MdM in the region, in addition to being able to directly see the impact of my work on the population…”

Volunteering in times of Corona – Martin’s Story

Martin was sent by ADICE to Istanbul, as an EU Aid Volunteer in Volunteering & Program Coordination. He was hosted by Small Projects Istanbul (SPI), whose main mission is to integrate and provide livelihood opportunities to displaced families from the Middle East and North Africa region.

“…The Corona virus affected not only our organization, but also our beneficiaries, the refugee community. Many families have lost their jobs and their source of income. As a response, we try to find ways to provide them with at least some financial assistance so they can cover their most basic needs. At the same time, we started distributing food packages to the most vulnerable families…”

In Denmark, the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is offering dual tickets for Tivoli to the most creative answers to the question: “What does volunteering mean to you?”. They are aiming for volunteers who participate in a refugee mentoring program. Tivoli is a unique legendary amusement park, and its characteristic Christmas lights as well as careful safety measures make it a great place for volunteers to take a moment to relax and enjoy.
