Supper Club

We need a Supper Club host for May.  Please contact Judy Rogers ( [email protected] ) to volunteer.

Elaine Spear has kindly offered to host Supper Club in June.  Many thanks to Elaine! Supper Club is held once a month in a member’s home. It is a fabulous time to meet new friends. Everyone is welcome, singles and couples alike. The hostess decides on a theme, cleans the house (or not), provides dishes, utensils, non-alcoholic beverages, opens the door, and the party begins! Please contact the Host for your food assignment. Supper Club Etiquette •  Please bring YOUR ASSIGNED DISH; enough for

10-12 people •  If you are UNABLE TO ATTEND, immediately call the

Host AND if at all possible arrange to have your assigned dish delivered.

•  Be respectful of the Host’s home. Alert them to any spillage or damage.

•  BYOB – bring your own beverage. Please do not expect to “share” other’s beverages.

Your Supper Club chair is Judy Rogers ([email protected] ). Please contact her with any questions about this activity.

Shooting Group

Early April found us inside at the Park City Gun Club for a session on “pocket pistols” (less-than-full-size handguns), dealing with the advantages and special challenges of smaller handguns. Weather permitting, we hope to move outside in the next few weeks for more “move and shoot” training and drills. Contact Ken at [email protected] if you are interested in joining the group, or if you just want to explore shooting to see if it’s for you.    Your Shooting Group chair is Ken Miller ([email protected]) . Please contact him with any questions about this activity.

Golf

The Newcomers Golf Group is accepting sign-ups for the 2019 spring season beginning late May. Sign-up to receive weekly reminders at [email protected]. You must sign up for the Golf Group to stay in the loop and be notified about play. DATE: Thursday, May 30, 2019

(weather permitting) We play 9-hole golf on Thursdays at Park City Golf Course on Thaynes Drive, with varying tee-times around 3:30pm.  We play in a very relaxed way focused on fun and not rules since this is NOT league play.  Most of us don't even keep score (but you can if you want to)!  This is the perfect group for those feeling rusty, wanting to learn how to play, learn the etiquette, and not feel out of place.  We do expect participants to be able to make consistent ball contact.  We will keep the pace of play moving (limit strokes to 10 per hole) and pick-up our balls as needed to keep up with the group in front of us, so don't worry about being held back too much if you are a decent golfer. You can walk or ride.  The emphasis is on socializing, making new friends and getting together for apps/drinks afterwards.  This golf season the group will have 2 co-chairs, Eileen and Karen, and we will alternate weeks doing the pairings and assigning tee times.  This is NOT a drop-in group; signups are required.  Questions? Call Eileen at (859) 317-1178. Your Golf co-chairs are Eileen Haynes ([email protected]) and Karen Ballash ([email protected]). Please contact them with any questions about this activity.

Fine Dining

If you are interested in participating in Fine Dining as a group member or as an alternate, please contact Linda Elbert at [email protected] or 949-280-6379. Linda is the chair for this activity. Fine Dining is for people who like to cook, eat, and share conversation around the table. Groups dine together once a month at a members home, rotating locations each month. A menu and recipes for the dinner are provided by the Fine Dining Coordinator (Linda Elbert). New Fine Dining groups have been formed for March through June 2019. A few reminders about groups working together: Each group schedules their own dinner dates with each pair taking a turn to host.  Dates should be scheduled in a collaborative manner so the most members of the group can participate.  If a couple or individual cannot participate, it is their job to notify the host and find their own alternate. The host prepares the entrée and sets the table. Other group members prepare and bring the other dishes. Everyone brings their own wine or other beverage of choice.

Wine Tasting

We are presently looking for someone to host our May Wine Tasting event.  If anyone is interested in volunteering, please contact Robin Fravel at [email protected] or 435-224-3881. If you like wine and parties this event is for you.  Our monthly wine tastings are a great way to sample a range of wines and meet new friends.      Each guest brings 2 bottles of the SAME wine, one bottle for tasting (in a brown bag with the price written inside) and one bottle for the hosts.  The price point is $10 - $30 a bottle. This will be a blind tasting and each guest will complete a tasting sheet.  Near the end of the evening, the scores will be tallied and the bottles will be revealed.     ** ALSO, everyone brings an hors d’oeuvre to pair with the wine.  (No chips and dips, please.)     IMPORTANT:  We are in the process of updating our email list.  Please contact Robin at [email protected] if you wish to be included on our email list.    Also, we are looking for people who would like to host upcoming wine tasting events.  Contact Robin to volunteer.   Your Wine Tasting chair (for the Winter) is Robin Fravel ([email protected]). Please contact her if you have any questions about this activity.

Mountain Town Olive Oil, Park City’s premier gourmet food destination, has been a presence on Main Street since 2009.  With over 50 flavors of oils and vinegars, the flavor combinations are endless.  We love helping customers taste and explore their way through the store and find their favorite combinations. In July of 2018, Mountain Town Olive Oil started offering a food and wine pairing class, called the Next Course. Located behind the store, the Next Course features a private chef demonstrating 3-5 recipes each week, with helpful tips on how to prepare each dish, what oils and vinegars, spices and herbs are being used.

Get To Know Our Advertisers   We would like to thank ALL OUR ADVERTISERS. Their support helps our Club succeed. We encourage our members to visit their web sites, stop by their businesses, or contact them directly whenever you are looking for new products and services. Please let them know that you learned about them through their Newcomers advertising.

Guests can interact with the chef, asking questions and getting ideas on how to use their favorite flavors. Wines are paired to each dish, with information on how and why each wine was selected. Guests receive a discount to shop in the store afterwards and get to take the recipe packs home with them. Classes are held each week with the schedule posted online. Reservations are required 48 hours in advance. We can also work with groups for private parties as well.
