LION MAUREEN'S BOOK LOOK

NEW MEMBER INDUCTED !

MANAGING DIABETES

Here are some ideas to add to your vacation suitcase or summer reading list:      Endurance: A year in space, a lifetime of discovery by Scott Kelly      All Creatures Great and Small by James Harriot      The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and their epic quest for gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics by Daniel James Brown      Seabiscuit: An American legend by Laura Hillenbrand      Dead wake: The last crossing of the Lusitania by Erik Larson (maybe don't pack this one if you're going on a cruise...)       Turn right at Machu Picchu : rediscovering the lost city one step at a time by Mark Adams

If you are managing diabetes or planning meals for a diabetic, you may be familiar with the "Create Your Plate" method of food portioning that sets aside one half of your dinner plate for "non-starchy vegetables."  Here are some ideas for delicious veggies to include on your plate this summer:      Asparagus      Broccoli      Carrots      Cauliflower      Celery      Cucumber      Eggplant      Green beans      Greens (kale, romaine, spinach)      Mushrooms      Onions      Peppers      Radishes      Squash      Tomatoes See a complete list at:        www.diabetes.org

We would like to extend a warm welcome to our newest club member inducted at our last meeting: Lion Ron Kurpieski!
