Thought for the Month: Matthew, Chapter 5, verses 14 & 15

You are the light that shines for the world to see. You are like a city built on a hill that cannot be hidden. People don’t hide a lamp under a bowl. They put it on a lampstand. Then the light shines for everyone in the house. In the same way, you should be a light for other people. Live so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven

Public Art for Bow Brickhill

The Parish Council is looking at the provision of two pieces of wooden sculpture to be sited on the Village Green and at the Pavilion. The Village Green sculpture will measure approximately 4m x 2m x 1.8m high and the Pavilion sculpture 5.5m x 4m x 2.4m high. Funding for the sculptures arises from the Section 106 agreement Milton Keynes Council drew up with the developers of Brickhill Sands and the amount available is £23,500. Under this agreement, the developers pay the Coun-cil sums of money to be used under various strictly controlled headings. One of these is public art. As part of the process, we are undertaking a public consultation process to involve the community in the project. A local sculptor has been found and has produced some draft designs for consideration and these are shown be-low. Wherever possible the structures will involve the use of locally sourced natu-ral materials. The Pavilion sculpture will provide a place for visitors to sit and will be constructed of oak and the Village Green structure a semi covered gateway to the Greensand Ridge. It is hoped that residents will want to suggest how they would like to make the structures relevant to the Bow Brickhill community. This could possibly be done by carvings inside the structures depicting historic events. If you would like to contribute to the discussion on this project please send your sug-gestions and ideas to the Parish Council email address below by 31st May 2019. [email protected]. COMMUNITY CLUB STATUS ACHIEVEDCOMMUNITY CLUB STATUS ACHIEVED

WWFC is now officially recognised by the FA as “among the country’s best”. We are delighted to have attained FA Charter Standard COMMUNITY CLUB status, the high-est level of accreditation achievable.

This certifies that the Club upholds the highest values that appeal to players, coach-es, officials and supporters, and demonstrates to our community that WWFC offers a place where anyone can enjoy football in a safe and well organised manner. It also places the Club at the forefront of significant national involvement and invest-ment as we strive to both sustain and develop WWFC whilst delivering a framework for future community integration and participation.

None of this would be possible without the support and the huge commitment from all managers, coach-es, volunteers and players. Also a huge thank you to our commercial partners and the support we receive and to Bow Brickhill Parish Council for all their support and encouragement. Our community is de-veloping and changing fast. We’re ready to play an important part in delivering healthy and inspired communities for the future.

INVESTING IN GRASSROOTS INVESTING IN GRASSROOTS –– LITERALLYLITERALLY The drought of 2018 took a huge toll on a number of WWFC’s playing locations. Pitches on some of our sand based soils dried out, and the grass never truly recov-ered. As part of the FA’s Pitch Improvement Programme, WWFC looks to improve both the quality and robustness of all our playing surfaces. The aim is not only to reduce postponements, but also to increase participation levels on surfaces deliver-ing the best quality football experience.

At Bow Brickhill Pavilion Playing Fields, a regime of regular cutting, aeration, weed control and fertilisation has delivered excellent playing surfaces this season. Overall the Club continues to invest £1000’s each season, with specialist deep seed drilling and fertilisation part of the programme this season. The demand for girls’ and boys’ football has never been greater, and in order to deliver sufficient supply, we’re striving to maintain the highest standards for playing surfaces.

GET INVOLVEDGET INVOLVED With nearly 500 playing members and approaching 40 teams from Under 6 through to adult – mixed, male, female and disability- there are many opportunities for Bow Brickhill residents to get involved. Grass cutting and pitch maintenance is just one of the ways to help out.
