May 2018

“The Power of Service”
Our 70th Annual District C convention was a great success, Many of the convention
highlights are included in this newsletter. Our guest speakers, who provided a wealth
of information, were greatly appreciated by Lion attendees. Bremerton Mayor Greg
Wheeler opened our Saturday afternoon session with kind words about Lions. Capt.
Schrader, the commanding officer of Naval Base Kitsap gave us an extremely thorough
and interesting insight into the role of his command. Charlotte Sanders, from the Uni-
versity of Washington, gave us an in depth education on the problem of homelessness
in our state. Past International Director Ed Farrington gave us a motivational speech
on the role of Lions in meeting the humanitarian needs throughout the world. We also
had a vriety of interesting and well attended seminars. One unexpected highlight was
the sailing of the USS Bremerton submarine past the convention center on its way to be
decommissioned.
I thank the Bremerton Central Lions Club for all the work they performed as the host
club. I also thank the convention committee, PDG Marilynn Danby, Margie Torbron,
PDG John Bergvall, 1VDGE Pat Burch and DGE Sharon Sikes. I also thank those who
attended.
