“Udhav, I am unable to forget Braj- Vrindavan – Gokul, the large and small forests, the shade of dense kunj .....the joy of the faces of Nandraj and Yashoda on seeing me walking up in the morning .... playing with gopis and gowalas .....the whole day passing in mirth”

This is how Sri Krishna himself revealed his own attachment for Braj and its inhabitants to his sakha Uddhav.

One of the meaning of Braj is “that which is in motion” never inert and full of energy and activity; there can never be better place than a school to provide and add energy and dispel inertness and darkness from lives.

Yes, that was the dream Smt. Rajashree Birla nurtured, to gift a school to the Brajwasis, in the fond memory of her illustrious parents, Smt. Parvati Devi Fomra and Shri. Radhakishen Fomra, who were ardent devotees of Lord Krishna and deeply attached to Braj.

This is how the seeds of PRFS, Mathura were sown. The seeds

that contained a massive tree bearing the fruit of karma, waiting to burst forth.

The dream passed into the reality of action when one fine morning I received a call from Mr. B. L. Shah sharing Smt. Rajashree Birla's dream to start a school at Jattipura, Goverdhan in the memory of her parents.

Initially, a low budget primary school was planned in or around Jattipura, Goverdhan. However, I tried to convince Smt. Rajashree Birla that since the school is dedicated to her parents, it should be a dream school in the real sense of the term. She readily agreed to it, though she was very particular that the location of school should be in Braj.

It is rightly said that any great dream begins with a dreamer ; thus yet another exciting journey, after SBA commenced, YES, the project PRFS. A journey through trials and triumphs to realize the vision of the most honourable Smt. Rajashree Birla.

I was deeply motivated by the goals that had deep emotional meaning, dreams that needed completion, and love that needed expression.

The first milestone to be crossed was to identify suitable plot of land. Plot hunting, in the scorching and ruthless heat of June 2005, was an overwhelming scale of task and it took me to the interior most locations like Aring, Jhochanda, Goverdhan, Sonkh and Raya etc. My younger daughter, who was a part of this hunt, had to face the heat and dust, literally she had to survive on water and soft drinks all day long.

At last, we came across the man Friday, Mr. R. K. Pathak one of the well known, influential and a thorough gentleman of Vrindavan. Using his offices, Mr. Pathak helped us identify an 11 acre plot of land at village Khamini, Goverdhan Road. The place which is almost equidistant from Mathura, Vrindavan and Goverdhan. The land was ultimately purchased and soon 3 more acres were added to make it a perfect road facing plot of 14 acres. Currently, the school boasts of 25 acres sprawling campus.

Architect firm, M/s. S. K. Chatterjee & Associates, already working with our Group companies like Jayashree Textiles and Essel Mining, were picked for this project. We strongly believed in the concept of functional architecture as far as the Academic Block was concerned.

Gopala Builders, a Gujarat based construction company, working with Birla Copper Dahej, was identified to add brick and mortar to this temple of learning. The construction commenced from February 2006 and was expected to finish by January 2008.

Smt. Rajashree Birla, for some reasons, desired to get the project completed in 12 months. Though it seemed to be difficult in a place like Mathura where gathering resources is a challenge, but it was not unachievable. The construction team

worked around the clock dedicatedly and tirelessly for speeding the construction of project. We had to juggle between the three balls of Cost, Quality and Time.

To attract the best teaching talent across the country, it was decided to construct 30 apartments and Principal's residence within the campus. It is a very rare gesture to provide residential facility to teachers working in a day school. The accommodation provided to teachers was not merely a roof over the head. It was meticulously planned 2 BHK fully furnished beautiful apartment with a study as big as a bedroom.

The journey, though joyful and educative, was not free from challenges and testing times.

Soil salinity was a major challenge not only for the construction work but also for horticulture. This affected construction work and had a detrimental effect on plants. But that did not relent our spirits. All the technical measures were adopted to mitigate the effect. For horticulture the top soil up to the depth of 3 feet was replaced by alluvial soil. Umpteen number of borings were excavated till sweet water was accessed. Now, the school is absolutely lush green with beautiful shady trees all around.

Arranging furnishings and furniture for the staff and student use in a small town like Mathura was no less daunting. Delhi based furniture designer, Cane Kriti, was identified for the job of furnishing Staff Apartments, Library, Computer laboratories, A.V. Room and Offices. Kool Kids, Delhi designed student friendly classroom furniture. Goverdhan Dass & Company, Baroda, designed and established state of the art Science laboratories.

Smt. Rajashree Birla strongly desired to have Goddess Saraswati as the theme of this special school. This is visible not only in the nook and corner of the school but even in the ethos of the school. Be it school logo, school song, prayer book, immaculate sparkling white marble lotus aligned with extremely beautiful marble statue of Goddess Saraswati adoring the foyer of school or the four Houses -- Saraswati, Bharati, Vani and Sharada ..... the entire ambience is showered with the blessings of the Goddess of learning.

Smt. Rajashree Birla was not only involved in planning of the school but also in the minutest possible nitty gritties ranging from designing of uniform to compiling the prayer book or giving school its School song 'Veena Pani De Vardaan' composed by Shri. Nandlal Pathak.

However, her constant concern was whether the school would get sufficient student strength as it was a bit far away from the town. But this worry did not stay long. To everybody's pleasant surprise, 1600 students were registered and 750 students were admitted from classes playgroup to VII.

Staff recruitment was no less a challenge. Inspite of advertisement in leading national dailies, the response was lukewarm. Ultimately, the best talent available was handpicked from places like Delhi, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Lucknow, Jaipur, Calcutta and Varanasi etc. The Principal who was already working in one of our schools at Dahej, Gujarat was transferred to Mathura. The horticulturist, who changed the complete ambience of the place, was picked from Rajghat, Varanasi.

The history repeated itself. This baby, like its senior sibling - SBA Bangalore, was delivered before the due date in record 11 months time. The project was complete in all respect; construction, admissions, staff recruitment, horticulture, sports facilities etc.

The Inaugural Lamp was lit on the auspicious day of April 14th, 2007. The day when the entire nation celebrates Baisakhi, the day which marks the beginning of the New Year in Nanakshahi Solar Calendar, the day when a SEZ (special education zone) was created in Mathura by the Aditya Birla Group.

The vedic rituals of morning were followed by a cultural bonanza in the evening. Students presented a spectacular Dance Drama, 'Mero To Giridhar Gopal', to enthral and bewitch the audience comprising of about 3000 parents and guests.

It is very rare to see students perform so efficiently even before joining the school formally. They had been working consistently for about two months under the guidance of their teachers.

The level of commitment and passion shown by Smt. Rajashree Birla was crystal clear when she flew thrice all the way from Mumbai to Mathura to see the rehearsals and run

through of the entire programme to be put up on the day of inauguration.

Among the distinguished guests on this august occasion were Smt. Sarala Birla, Sh. B.K.Birla, Smt. Parvati Devi Fomra and about 100 members of Birla & Fomra family.

Dr. Sarala Birla, a passionate educationist and a social activist, showered blessings in her emotional and memorable address. She shared how the two families – Birlas and Fomras came together. She also appreciated Smt. Rajashree Birla for creating such marvellous institution and dedicating to her parents....thus keeping her parents immortal till eternity.

Mr. B. K. Birla expressed his deep satisfaction and happiness for the quality of work, keeping time line and judicious use of resources.

No words will be enough to describe the feelings of Smt. Parvati Devi Fomra for her illustrious daughter Smt. Rajashree Birla. The special bond, layers of happiness, unspoken gratitude visible in her eyes, the gestures that spoke volumes about being a proud mother showering loads and loads of blessings.

Everybody made a unique and special contribution in making this dream project a grand success. Smt Rajashree Birla's conscientious efforts, personal involvement, dynamism, discipline, ability to pay attention to detail single – minded toughness, leadership skills, commitment and passion bore rich fruits. She remained the driving force for this special project. The senior officials of G. D. Birla Trust like Mr. A.K. Aggarwala, Mr. G. K. Tulsian and Mr. B.L. Ajmera extended all possible support and cooperation to ensure that the project completes on time. Smt. Sarala Birla's and Sh. B. K. Birla's presence was always motivating and inspiring.

I cannot forget Dr. Santrupt Misra's constant guidance and expert advice that encouraged me to remain in high spirits and overcome the intermittent hurdles I came across during the entire project.

Some journeys do not have endings.....they lead to new beginnings.....journey PRFS was one of them.

EB: How do you see your professional growth, as Principal of one of the prestigious schools of the Aditya Birla Group?

KBJ: The word growth has various connotations. Growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of cancer cell. But as I see growth ... the only way we can live is if we grow. The only way we can grow is if we change ....the only way can change is if we learn.....and the only way we can learn is if we get exposure. NEW MAKES US GROW. At PRFS I get exposure and introduction to multiple challenges and novel experiences. As they say....the purpose of that apple tree is to grow a little more wood each year ...that is what I plan to do.

EB: What is the inner calling that binds you so strongly to the Aditya Birla Group?

KBJ: It is a beautiful thing when career and passion come together. Teaching, by far is one of the most influential professions on the planet. I have a passion for education. I am a tutor, an enabler and a caregiver combined, and I am here to make a difference, howsoever small.... THAT IS MY INNER CALLING. There may be many great ideas in a book but to be a cohesive unit, the book needs glue at the spine to be held together. So to fulfil my INNER CALLING ....Aditya Birla Group is the glue which holds it together.

stEB: What is your vision of Qualitative Education in the 21 century?stKBJ: Qualitative Education in the 21 century means that students master content while producing, synthesizing and

evaluating information from wide variety of disciplines and sources with an understanding and respect for diverse cultures. Besides 3 Rs learner needs to imbibe three Cs too: creativity, communication and collaboration.

st21 century education must teach children to be self- directed learners, financially and economically literate, an innovator, a critical thinker and ready to take intellectual risks. For this we need teachers who work closely with students and act as learning concierges.

EB: For the education to be universal, how can you make Inclusion a reality?

KBJ: We need to learn from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, while others bright, some have weird names but they all have learned to live together in the same box and make the world colourful. The vision of inclusive education is to enhance the development of value, respect and support for the learning and development of all students, provide an opportunity to all students to attend school with their peers, and to receive appropriate and quality programming, by creating a school community which celebrates diversity. Inclusion is the strength of our system which I strongly advocate.

EB: What are the essential qualities you seek while recruiting a new teacher?

KBJ: The strength of a team is each individual member, so recruiting a new teacher is not just a task….it is the most important aspect of a Principal's duties. I seek for individuals who are honest, display love for children, have a passion for teaching, are committed and creative, have good communication skills, are ready to re-invent themselves every day, be a motivator and love the student as one loves ones own child.

EB: What is your view on e-learning platform?

KBJ: Integrating technology in aiding education is inevitable. But it is not technology itself that is important, it is how it is used. And this requires investment not just in equipment but in giving teachers confidence and competence to exploit it. I believe that technology can never displace the relationship, between teacher and learner which is crucial to the learning and development process.

EB: Do you feel parents should play a role in the operation of the school?

KBJ: Parent involvement in schools should be more than just attending the parent conferences. Working together as full partners-parents & teachers, can create an educational program that meets unique local needs and reflects the diversity within a school. Parents can be involved in schools in many roles. There are the traditional ways: encouraging children to complete homework & attending parent-teacher meetings. Other roles, however, require more commitment: serving as mentors, teacher aides, or resource persons as per their core competencies.

EB: What qualities, according to you, should a Principal possess to be a leader rather than a mere administrator?

KBJ: Principals were mostly considered to be building managers.... but today the role of Principals has changed. Principals are no longer managers ; they are expected to be leaders. Leadership to me is ability to shift from “taking care of stuff” to seeing the future. As a leader, a Principal has to constantly introspect: “Am I doing the Right thing at the Right time in the Right way for the Right reason”.... To be a good leader, a Principal (a) must be adept with people (b) must balance tough love with earnest praise (c) must be fair and consistent (d) must be organised and prepared (e) must be an excellent listener (f) must be a VISIONARY.

EB: Which one of the core values of the Aditya Birla Group do you cherish the most and why ?

KBJ: INTEGRITY ...... because if you have integrity, nothing else matters. If you don't have integrity, nothing else matters.

EB: In this competitive era, where do you place the Aditya Birla Group schools, in comparison with the other elite schools in the country ?

KBJ: I believe, we cannot rank schools like a sportsmen who need a loser to determine a winner. Schools do not need to defeat other programmes or schools to be winners. Education has many winners.....As many criteria matter. Each school has its own strength and challenges. Our mission is to fulfil the vision of our Chairman and C.E.O. i.e to make education a relevant, meaningful and interesting so that our students are ready to meet the challenges of an ever changing global environment.

We are on an ever onward journey... in the process... we have made a name and are recognized as one of the premier chain of schools in the country.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam

- An Inspiration

When you search for inspiration around you, no sphere can possibly be ignored. But when you find him, inspiration cannot be ignored. He had been an ocean of inspiration for all of us from the day we know him. His presence is still felt in the hearts of young aspirants. He moved the hearts of all Indians. APJ Abdul Kalam was indeed a great scientist, India has ever got.

To Dr. Kalam, religion, caste, language and other criteria that divide Indians and place them in pigeon holes were unacceptable. He was an Indian first and Indian last. He wanted all parts of India to progress. His vision was that enlightening the youth of India was the best way to empower the country. He believed that the youth had fewer biases about their society as compared to the grown-ups and hence it is much easier to motivate them.

His love for his subject can be best understood by the ways and means he used to satisfy students. Once a school girl asked him, “Sir, how can I become the greatest scientist of the world?” To this he replied to her, “Just keep asking questions like you did now.” His ways were simple and practical. Rather than giving long explanations, preaching and teachings and lectures to the girl, he simply answered her doubt in the best understood way. “Difficulties in your life do not come to destroy you, but to help you realize your hidden potential and power. Let difficulties know that you too are difficult.” Dr. Kalam went through difficult conditions, right from his childhood. He faced many difficulties at every step of life. Yet he never gave up on his education.

“According to the laws of aerodynamics”, he said, “The bumble bee should never be able to fly. Because of the size, weight, and shape of its body in relationship to the total wing span, flying is scientifically impossible. The bumble bee, being ignorant of the scientific theory, goes ahead and flies anyway.'' Just as he said, he believed in the unbelievable and that is science. We must also keep constant remembrance that nothing in this perishable world is impossible to achieve and explore.

He had a vision for the country that India must stand up to the world. Unless India stands up to the world, no one will respect us. Only strength respects strength. We must be strong not only as a military power but also as an economic power.

Creative Impetus

The first time you saw me crying, through your eyes

There were tears of happiness on your face in disguise

The anguish of your pain was lifted up by god

The 1st time you touched me it felt like paradise

From head to toe in blood, I was drenched in red“

You will call her MAA” God appeared and said

What had just happened, I had no clue

Whatever it is MAA, I belong to you

You caught my hand and taught me how to walk

Senseless voices I would murmur,

And you'd say “He can talk”

The moments with you, were the best I ever had

I love more than anyone, “Hey you too dad”

I still remember the stories, that once you had said

Sorry for keeping you up for nights close to my wet bed

The moment I was sick, you stayed up all night

Often gave two slaps when I indulged in a fight

You got me from the wrong track into the right

Your scream was enough to give me a fright.

In every dark corner you were a guiding light.

You were there by my side whether day or night

You’re my guiding angel, “cause when I look into your eyes

I feel stronger” cause I see the heavens in the skies

The love I've got in my heart, no one will ever see

‘cause words can't express what you mean to me.’

A woman of Excellence…..

I long to be,

Filled with thy Godly Wisdom;

Deeply embedded in me.

A woman of Integrity…..

In this hostile world I daily face,

Standing up for Righteousness;

With thine amazing grace.

A woman of Destiny…..

Living out thine divine plan,

Knowing confidently that you'll walk with me;

Guided firmly by thine saving Hand.

A woman of Compassion…..

For the ones living in the dark,

For those who know not;

That Love dwells in a true Human Heart.

A woman who believes in Unity…..

Promotes togetherness with magnanimity,

Whose Mission is to reach out to Humanity;

To wipe out man made Racism and strengthen Equality.

A woman of Justice, I implore to be……

To voice against the harmful taboos of society, whatever they be,

Of a girl child, a daughter, a mother or a widow;

On each multifaceted role,

thy heavenly showers do bestow.

A woman whose sacrificial Life…..

Seasoned with endless struggles and countless strife,

Leaves behind a legacy of fearless Footprints;

Which Time can never efface, amidst painful Sufferings.

BIRTH

OF

A

SEED…the Earth's song

Happiness, smile, tears all spread around me,

Thinking of a seed that was sown into me.

Happiness spread all around in atmosphere and me.

After a decade it seemed,

Months together it grew in me,

Ate, played, slept and dreamt with me.

Happiness spread all around in atmosphere and me.

Finally the day arrived for the seed to become independent.

The seed by now has become a second life to me,

It grew now and was independent of me.

Happiness spread all around in the atmosphere and me.

They love all creatures that breathe

They care for all they are with

They know the suffering of all

They feel the pain of serious fall

For them, every tear has a reason

For them, every eye has a vision

I love such people….

Oh God, I love thy people

They say nothing but bless

They openly, see never guess

They know but they keep quiet

They suffer anything for right

They stand by those who stumble

And offer a helping hand and are humble

I praise such true, worthy people…

Oh God, I love thy people

They hear the untold and smile

They see the unseen and go a mile

They know where they are required

They reach even if they are fired

They keep their promise to serve

And always keep a steel nerve

I praise such iron-willed people

Oh God, I love such angels

I've majored in bio-technology from Patiala and planning to attend North-Eastern University at Boston to pursue masters in Tissue and Cell Engineering. Regards,

5. Dear All, The ABPS has been an integral part of my life right from the time when I joined it, in the year 2000 and the school ideology has ever since been a driving impetus in my life. I along with a few colleagues have set up an educational start up to teach students about the latest trending fields of science like Robotics. Presently I am pursuing B.tech in Electric Engineering from IIT BHU. I along with my team members have been instrumental in designing a hyper efficient electrical vehicle Alterno. In 2015-16, I had the privilege of representing India at the SHELL Echo Marathon held at Manila Philippines. Once again a grand salute to ABPS. Thanks & Regards,
