“EVERY GREAT DREAM BEGINS WITH A DREAMER. ALWAYS REMEMBER, YOU HAVE WITHIN YOU THE STRENGTH, THE PATIENCE, AND THE PASSION TO REACH

FOR THE STARS TO CHANGE THE WORLD.” Harriet Tubman

Saturday, April 23, some of the Zonta’s Liberty-Benton High School Z-Club members and parents volunteered to work the 6th annual Findlay Ministerial Association’s Backyard Mission Trip. The goal is to gather all volunteers from city churches

and organizations in the community getting to help those in need. We painted, washed windows, did yard work; raked, trimmed bushes, mulched, etc. The home owners were very appreciative. It was an enjoyable and blessed experience!

“Be the Difference...Join Zonta”As the Spring Style Show nears and you’re busy inviting your friends to purchase tickets, why not also invite them to join us for a meeting to see what Zonta is all about? Do you know someone who’s new to Findlay and looking for a way to make new friends and get involved in the community? What better way than to join us! Tell them about the

difference Zonta has made in your life, our community, our nation, and our world.

The membership committee challenges you to invite a friend so they too can be the difference with Zonta!

I wanted to forward the following email I just received from one of our scholarship winners (just recently determined). This expression of appreciation should keep us going while we work diligently on our geranium sale. -- Deb Bartlett

Mrs. Bartlett, I just wanted to thank you again for this incredibly opportunity to focus solely on my academics next year. Having monetary support from my community will allow me to stress less about the cost of my education and just focus on

making the most of it. I appreciate it more than words can say.

I am honored that you chose me as a recipient and I promise that you will not regret it. It is funny because at the end of our time yesterday I couldn’t help but wish to spend just a little more time talking with each successful woman

in the room. I felt like I had so much to learn! I apologize for not being able to say this on the phone today, for my nephews had plans of their own.

I hope to see you soon, perhaps at the honors assembly?

Thank you again, Alisha Schroeder

ZEE NEWS - MAY 2016 PAGE 5 Sandy Kozlevcar Update: Sandy was a Zontian for years but had to give up the club when her health and financial situation took a wrong turn. Sandy worked at the radio station WKXA/WFIN here in town

but took an early retirement, again, because of her health. She has a lung disease and there is no cure. She has been fighting this disease for years.

I received a letter from her the other day and it sounds like she is not in good spirits or health. I sent her a card today and am hoping that you will join me by sending Sandy K a quick card as well. Write a note or not, it’s okay. Just sign it “Your Zonta Sister” or put “Zonta” after your name. It will warm her heart

to receive these cards. Here’s the address:

ZEE NEWS - MAY 2016 PAGE 6Advocacy / Zonta Says No Updates

This is an invitation to all District 5 Zonta Clubs to participate in an outreach event being held in conjunction with Theresa Flores and her S. O. A. P. campaign to stop human trafficking. The BGSU Firelands Criminal Justice Club and the Zonta Club of Greater Sandusky, will be hosting the event at BGSU Firelands on Saturday May 21, to prepare for Bike Week Ohio, May 27th to June 5th, 2016, and the Republican National Convention in Cleveland in July. The plan is to target hotels along the northern border of Ohio, from Toledo to Cleveland and distribute soap for their guests. The first step is to purchase soaps for the event. It will take at least 15 cases to cover the area, a case of soap (1000 bars) is $150, including labels. The event on May 21st will start around 9:00 a.m. with an informational program and labeling the soaps. We will then break down into teams and go out to deliver soaps. Most teams will be done by 2 or 3 pm at the latest. More details will be provided as we get closer to the date. The group is looking for funds to purchase soap and volunteers to call on hotels. Please contact Tracy McGinley ([email protected]) or Kathy Dailey ([email protected]) of the Zonta Club of Greater Sandusky for more information. _____________________________________________________________________________ https://www.traffickfree.com/soap/ S.O.A.P. was created to not only educate and save, but also to fill a need. After founder Theresa Flores would speak to a group of people at awareness events, she noticed the attendees were in shock, frustrated and yes, even angry. They demanded to know what they could do to stop this crime and protect their children.

S.O.A.P. allows concerned citizens to help put a stop to human trafficking in their community and save missing children. Kids as young as 9 years old, fathers with their sons, and an 83 year old nun have put labels on bars of soap. There is something you can do about this! The beauty of S.O.A.P. is that it is simple and easy and can be customized to your wants, needs and abilities.

Maile forwarded an email from Adrienne Bailey, District 5 Advocacy Chair with information of interest.

The SOAP project, a nonprofit started by Teresa Flores to target hotels with the 800 number for trafficked slaves to call, is happening in Ohio for the Republican Convention in Cleveland.

The nonprofit is looking for $150 and volunteers to wrap and distribute soap in May. We should discuss this at our business meeting in April. Ideally it should come from Service, but I just received this and they met on Monday…

There is a Women United for Change event taking place in Columbus that features panels of legislators. It is happening on April 20th . More information to follow.
