LADIES’ GAMES NIGHT,LINDA MARX, ACTIVITY LEADER

Since we do not have a hostess this month, we will not be having games night this May. There is a possibility that we may have games night in early June. Check the June newsletter for any details.

MAH JONGG,JANE EGERMANN, ACTIVITY LEADER

Well, the new cards are here. Some of us liked the 2016 hands; some of us didn’t (yes, I mean you, Lynnda G!) All in all we had a good time getting vaguely familiar with the card on our play dates in April. But…that doesn’t mean that you can’t join us if you’re new to the game. We enjoy teaching new people and none of us are really sure what our favorite hands are going to turn out to be. We’re all still scrambling a little so you aren’t at too much of a disadvantage. Our mah jongg dates for May will go back to the usual second and fourth Fridays. We will meet on Friday, May 13 at 9:30 am and on Friday, May 27 at 1 pm. Both play dates will be at the home of Jane Egermann. Please contact Jane (248-879-5512 or [email protected]) if you plan to come or need directions.

KIMBERLEY FLAIG, OUTGOING NEWSLETTER EDITOR, It has been a pleasure to serve as TNC’s newsletter

editor. Angie Pantages, who has expertise in this area, will be the new newsletter editor. Angie will be creating the June/July newsletter. Articles will still be sent to [email protected]. For those who submit articles, please send them to her on a timely basis as you have done for me. Thank you.

May White Rose AwardEach month, September through May, White Rose Awards are given in appreciation to members serving on the board, who have made an outstanding contribution to our club. Troy Newcomers Club is truly grateful for the time these women take out of their busy schedules and the extraordinary effort they put forth on behalf of our club.

May Red Rose AwardEach month, September through May, Red Rose Awards are given in appreciation to members not serving on the board, who have made an outstanding contribution to our club. Troy Newcomers Club is truly grateful for the time these women take out of their busy schedules and the extraordinary effort they put forth on behalf of our club.

KIM FLAIG, NEWSLETTER EDITOR

Kim Flaig likes being in charge - in her time with Troy Newcomers she has been president of the club, president of the bowling league, and president of the Sylvan Glen golf league. She also has planned our luncheons, served as advisor and for the last three years has been the newsletter editor. It seems that the only way you get out of the newsletter job is to move. Kim and husband Bob will be leaving Michigan at the end of July to live on the 16th green of a golf course in Tennessee. (There’s also a lake and view of the Smokey Mountains.) Kim will continue with zumba, line dancing, hiking and biking while looking for a tap class, bowling league and volunteer opportunities. She also thinks she’ll be adding kayaking to her repertoire. Bob plans to buy a boat. (Do I hear a country song in that???) Kim has done her best to prepare us for her move - over the past year she and Bob have traveled out West, to the western Caribbean, Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach, up North, Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida and North Carolina. Daughter Danielle will graduate from DeVry University in December. Thank you, Kim, for keeping us all on track with the club activities.

PAM HARVAT - PUBLICITY

Pam Harvat’s friends and family know not to plan anything for her during certain weeks of the month - that’s the time she reserves for Newcomers’ activities! She joined to have fun and has found it in learning euchre and dominoes and enjoying the speakers at our luncheons. She’s made lots of new friends and occasionally meets them for lunch or dinner outside of club activities. For several years now, Pam has been in charge of publicizing our club’s existence and programs. Next year, she will take on the role of luncheon secretary. We’re sure she’ll do an excellent job there as well. Pam is a actively involved grandmother - she babysits for her triplet granddaughters (they’re 2 1⁄2) on Fridays and her five-year old granddaughter on Sunday nights. She enjoys taking the older granddaughters (there are eight in total) out shopping and to dinner on their birthdays. In summer, she will pick up even more duties, but, when the kids are in school, she plans to learn mah jongg and, one day, join the Sola exercisers. (She will also do some practice things in case the club ever puts on another road rally!) Along with friend, Paul, she has gone on several Newcomers trips and will only miss the next one due to a family wedding. Thank you, Pam, for being such an enthusiastic proponent of our club!

SUSAN HOLLE, BOWLING SECRETARY

Susan Holle joined to bowl - something she does very well indeed! (She’s one of the few we have had join immediately as an anchor bowler!) The major reason we haven’t seen her at other activities is that she volunteers at Barnard school (where daughter Rachel is a fourth-grader) and works in the lunch room on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Prior to becoming a full-time mom, she worked at General Motors in sales and marketing. In addition to bowling, Susan likes biking and Jazzercize which she does four to five times each week. (We knew that athleticism came naturally!) She enjoys reading particularly mysteries and other fiction.Although this year the bowling league had Troy Lanes do our record-keeping, Susan is very interested in getting back to doing it herself. She’d like to have up-to-date information before writing the newsletter articles (even though she claims that’s the hardest part of the job for her!) Thank you, Susan, for stepping into this (arguably) most difficult position on our league and doing an admirable job.
