MAY SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS
Thank you to Peace WELCA, Peace Men’s Breakfast, Peace Sunday School, Peace Congregation, and others for their financial contributions to “Harvest Pack.” Also to all our faithful helpers: Karen Alvstad, Anya & Larissa Brantley, Kathy Dahl, Joyce Hanson, Kaleb & Ian Getz, Tina, Pat, & Kyra McGrath, Jim & Sharolyn Johnson, Leon Johnson, Jodi, Carter, and Braden Overson, Kevin Petee, and Nancy Waugh. What a great crew! For the next couple of Sundays we’ll be making cards and gifts for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. On the 11th of May we’ll be planting flowers in our planters. This year the planters will stay at church so watering them is not such a chore! The kids will be singing in church for Mother’s Day. Our end of the year picnic and park clean up will be on Sunday, May 18th at 9:00 am at Powers Park. Everyone is invited to attend! We will have Staff Appreciation during church that day. MARK YOUR CALENDARS - Vacation Bible School is scheduled for Sunday, July 20th through Thursday, July 24th. It’s not too early to volunteer to help – give Joyce a call if you want to have a good time at VBS! Joyce Hanson, Director Peace Sunday School

Peace Lutheran Church Council Meeting March 12, 2014 7:15 p.m.
Call Meeting to Order—Tom Gardner VP. Absent Tom P, Nancy W, Terry V.
Devotional Time—Lenten Worship Service
Secretary’s Report—MTA Jan, 2nd Brenda. MCU
Treasurer’s Report—Will continue to communicate in bulletin of our budget standing. After bills for sound system are in,
Sandy will update status of memorial funds used. Sandy will try to create a line item for tracking the use of undesignated me-
morials. MTA Jennifer, 2nd Jan. MCU.
Pastor’s Report—Continuing member visits. Has been busy but very productive. Mystery mission is going well. Worksite,
housing and meals are planned. First Lutheran has committed to going along. Messiah has since dropped out. Confirma-
tion retreat @ Luther Crest at the end of the month is expected to go well. Kids will miss a school Monday that they were
previously supposed to have off but because of snow make up day. Pastor has talked to the school and gotten excused ab-
sence. Nora, 1st Lutheran and Lincoln are joining the retreat. Pastor will order new business cards as supply is dwindling and
information is out of date. Confirmation end of school year is challenging. Council will review student faith statements to
be submitted without identifying information. Confirmation is set for May 18. Pastor’s report will continue to be verbal in
the meetings.
Old Business—
Sound System—System is mostly in. Will label slider and review recent feedback problem. For funeral next week
sound system should be working in fellowship hall.
Luther Crest Contribution—Men’s Breakfast agreed to send $500, $250 from WELCA.

Snow Removal Roof—Terry not present to report, but no leaks observed and nature has run its course this week.
Mystery Trip—In Pastor’s Report.

Council Training—Was not as organized as in previous years.
Circular Message Board—Still waiting to see where Pastor Jennifer Rose’s church purchased it.

Printer—Copier not copying straight. Don’t use as copier much. Rizzo works great for nearly all our needs. Pay
$65/month for copier service agreement. Need one to get legal size paper. Motion made by Jennifer to get

Lock for Sound Room—Discussed security for new system. Decided to explore lock for cabinet rather than door

Stewardship of the Good News
A tradition in many churches around the country that I have yet to participate in, but always find
particularly interesting is that of “Holy Humor” Sunday. Basically a service of humorous stories and
even “Christian Stand-up” comedy, the week after Easter Sunday. Again, I haven’t fully taken that into a
tradition I’m ready to participate fully in yet, but in that same vein, I have a story for you. Disclaimer,
I’m married to a Blonde.
Three blondes died and are at the pearly gates of heaven. St. Peter tells them that they can enter the gates if they can answer one simple question. St. Peter asks the first blonde, "What is Easter?" The blonde replies, "Oh, that's easy! It's the holiday in November when everyone gets together, eats turkey, and are thankful..." "Wrong!," replies St. Peter, and proceeds to ask the second blonde the same question, "What is Easter?" The second blonde replies, "Easter is the holiday in December when we put up a nice tree, exchange presents, and celebrate the birth of Jesus." St. Peter looks at the second blonde, shakes his head in disgust, tells her she's wrong, and then peers over his glasses at the third blonde and asks, "What is Easter?" The third blonde smiles confidently and looks St. Peter in the eyes, "I know what Easter is." "Oh?" says St. Peter, incredulously. "Easter is the Christian holiday that coincides with the Jewish celebration of Passover. Jesus and his disciples were eating at the last supper and Jesus was later deceived and turned over to the Romans by one of his disciples. The Romans took him to be crucified and he was stabbed in the side, made to wear a crown of thorns, and was hung on a cross with nails through his hands. He was buried in a nearby cave which was sealed off by a large boulder." St. Peter smiles broadly with delight. The third blonde continues, "Every year the boulder is moved aside so that Jesus can come out... and, if he sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter." Aren’t we glad to be out of the season of winter? Even though it hasn’t warmed up where some of us would like it, I think summer is on its way! We’ve also made it through the season of Lent and are now in the season of Easter. We have a lot to look forward to in the month of May. We will continue to celebrate Christ’s resurrection for the 50 days of Easter, celebrate our mothers and women in our lives during the Salad Luncheon on May 10th, and we will also enjoy celebrating with our Confirmands as they are confirmed on May 18th. Among all these special things, we continue gathering for Adult bible study Monday’s for “Perk Up! with Pastor” Worship on Sunday’s, 5-6 grade release time, 8-9 grade confirmation, 7-12 grade YOUth group, and much more that has become a part of how we “do” church together. Please join us! Our church family is not the same when YOU aren’t a part of it! Happy Easter! In this season, we join together with the whole Christian church on earth with our shouts of ALLELUIA! Christ is Risen! He is Risen Indeed! Alleluia! Amen.
