    o our Navy spouses, many Fleet and Family Support Centers (FFSC) across the Navy will host

    activities to celebrate the occasion. For more inormation, contact your local FFSC.

    Our spouses serve as we serve,every bit as much. They do not bear the arms,

    but their open arms provide strength and comfort.

    They do not set the ships course, but their internal compass

    Family Readiness Groups Here to support you!Family Readiness Groups (FRG) are an integral part o the military liestyle. These groups servethe needs o individuals who share a common experience, particularly that o deployment. AnFRGs purpose is to:

    N Prepare members or deployments and homecoming

    N Provide amily support during deployments

    N Help amilies adjust to challenges and to support one another in times o personal, unitor area crises

    N Welcome/mentor members who are new to the Navy liestyle

    N Coordinate social events, such as holiday celebrations

    When amilies o deployed service members know their resources, have un and can draw onthe strength o new riends, coping skills are enhanced and deployment anxiety is reduced.Lasting riendships, the satisaction o helping others and a sense o pride are all positiveresults o belonging to a strong FRG.     FFSC.

    For those not located on or near a Navy installation, there are a variety o community-basedMilitary Service Organizations (MSO) and Department o Deense activities which also providesupport to military amilies:

    N National Military Family Association (NMFA) is a nonprot organization which ocuses onissues important to military amilies. They believe that all military amilies deserve com-prehensive child care, accessible health care, spouse employment options, great schools,caring communities, a secure retirement and support or widows and widowers.

    N United Service Organizations (USO) ullls its mission o liting the spirits o Americastroops and their amilies. Thousands o USO volunteers do everything possible to pro-vide a home away rom home or our troops and to keep them connected to the amilies

    they leave behind.

    N Military OneSource (MOS) Education, relocation, parenting, stress you name it,Military OneSource is here to help you with just about any need. Available by phone oronline, this ree service is provided by the Department o Deense or active-duty, Guardand Reserve service members and their amilies.

    N The Fleet and Family Support Centers(FFSC) Relocation Assistance Program(RAP) makes moving easy! When youreceive Permanent Change o Station(PCS) orders, you may have questions,but do not worry: FFSC RAP proes-sionals will help you with every aspecto the move. They oer the FFSCSmooth Move workshop to explain

    who pays or the move, how to shippersonal property and overseas living.

    Navy Housing ServiceCenters (HSCs) are availableto help you and your amilyduring every step o yourrelocation and PermanentChange o Station (PCS).The HSC sta at your current duty sta-

    tion can assist with ending your lease,understanding the moving out processand connecting you with the HSC at yournext duty station. The HSC sta at yournew duty station can provide invaluableinormation about the housing optionsavailable, including community housing,military and privatized housing as wellas available housing or unaccompaniedservice members.

    The HSC sta will assist youwith the application processi you choose to live in mili-tary or privatized housing.

    They can explain the waitlist and what benets and

    housing you are eligible or. I you plan

    to live in the community, the HSC keepslistings o homes and many participatein the Rental Partnership Program (RPP).

    The RPP oers homes with cost savingsto service members through reduced orno security deposit and discounted rent all without credit checks or incomerequirements above your basic allow-ance or housing (BAH).

    Whether you are moving OCONUS andneed extra help planning your moveand nding housing overseas or are juslooking to move within your commu-nity, the Navy HSC oers home ndingservices to assist you in nding suitableaordable and sae housing.

    Wounded warriorsexperience the healingpower of sportsThis month, seriously wounded, ill and injured service members rom all brancheso the military will go head-to-head on a dierent kind o battleeld: the WarriorGames. The Warrior Games are a Paralympic-style competition among more than200 wounded warriors. They are presented by Deloitte and hosted by the U.S.Olympic Committee; they also are supported by the Department o Deense, the

    Department o Veterans Aairs and a host o nonprot organizations. This year, theGames take place May 11-17 in Colorado Springs, Colo. The event includes competi-tions in archery, cycling, seated volleyball, shooting, swimming, track and eld andwheelchair basketball. The wounded warrior athletes have upper-body and/orlower-body injuries, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, visual impairments,serious illnesses and/or post-traumatic stress.

    Team Navy is sponsored by Navy Wounded Warrior (NWW)-Sae Harbor, the Navyssupport program or seriously wounded, ill and injured Sailors and Guardians. Theteam includes 35 athletes, and each member can share an incredible personalstory o perseverance and dedication, rom a Corpsman whose valorous conductin battle earned him a Silver Star to an Aircrat Structural Mechanic who overcamea challenging battle with cancer and successully ought to remain on active duty.

    Fitness and teamwork are a way o lie in the military. Serious illness or injury canprooundly impact that way o lie, oten conning a service member to a hospitalbed and signicantly altering his or her physical capabilities. Adaptive athleticreconditioning and events like the Warrior Games help wounded warriors buildstrength and endurance while also drawing inspiration rom their teammates.
