May 2nd-6th is Teach-

er Appreciation Week.

Be sure to take a mo-

ment and thank a

teacher for all that

they do for our chil-

dren. This issue of the

Bridge Bugle recogniz-

es those teachers,

staff members, and

parents who work so

hard to make our

school one of the best

in the City of Chicago.

It does take great peo-

ple to make a

great school, and

we have a school

full of the great-

est. I think I can

safely speak for the

entire Bridge School

community when I say

“Thank You!” to all the

wonderful people at

Bridge who do such a

great job day after

day.

The year is winding

down and with the

end of the year comes

our annual Spring

Fling Carnival. Our

annual event will be

held May 19th-22nd. I

hope to see everyone

there enjoying our

family fun event.

DID YOU KNOW?

Teaching Tips for Parents

By Mrs. Arlene Natale

Volume 9, Issue 1

Did you know that taking notes, outlining, and using note cards is the single most effec-

tive way to study for tests having large amounts of material? For instance, if you child is tak-ing a chapter test in social studies, the best way to study is to take written notes directly from the text book, reduce notes to outline form, and then make note cards to review all material.

The class of 2005 competed in the Great American Fan Car Race Competition. Room 206 won! The 1st place winners were Ewelina Kopiczko, Margaret Palka and Anna Kornas. The 2nd place winners were Davie Niedojoadlo

and Noel Pagon from room 212. The 3rd place winners were James Herrity and Michael Szynalik from room 210.The

fan cars were a lot of fun to build. We were given materials without instructions and it was our job to put them to-gether. One thing that we had to do was make the cars go very fast and straight because if the car went out of

bounds we would be eliminated. It took us about three days to build the car and we went through many disappoint-ments but our car Bob ended up winning.

Room 108 is finishing our Social Studies

unit on Chicago. Since Chicago is home to

many beautiful skyscrapers, we decided to

design our own skyscrapers. They are on

display in our room. Come in and take a

look. They are terrific.

Editors Note: They are terrific!

NEW CARPET IN L IBRARY

R E C E S S B A G S A N D E Q U I P M E N T F O R E V E RYO N E !

Room 114 students love their new recess bag and equipment!

Brand new sports equipment and bags for all classrooms await excited students!

Bridge Elementary School students received

a pleasant surprise on Friday, April 29th.

Every classroom received their own new

equipment bag filled with brand new foot-

balls, basketballs, soccer balls, four square

balls, jump ropes and other items to be used

during recess periods. The recess bag pro-

gram was created to increase our children’s

opportunities for improving their physical

well-being while providing them options for

a little healthy fun.

New carpeting was installed in the Bridge School Library on April 27th.

The new carpeting was part of an on-going library renovation project.

Over $30,000 worth of new books have been purchased for the library

these past three years. School Librarian Mrs. Banaszak and Technology

Coordinator Mrs. Miarecki are currently working together to install a

state of the art computer scanning/tracking software program that will

allow students to quickly check-out books from the library each week.

Mrs. Banaszak is also writing a grant to obtain new furniture for our

great library. When the Library Renovation Program is completed our

children will have a library that will be the envy of other schools! Room 211 students love the new carpet.
