On our parish feast day, the great Feast of Pentecost, we are honored to have Bishop Matano preside and preach at our 11:00 am Mass. Our Bishop is the blessed spiritual leader of our diocese and of our faith community. We assure you, Bishop Matano, of our ongoing prayer and gratitude for your episcopal ministry among us. PENTECOST! Todays first Scripture reading tells the story of Pentecost for the first Christian disciples. They experienced conversion. Their lives were transformed. They proclaimed the good news of the love of Jesus. There was a fire in their bellies that shaped their entire lives. On this day of Pentecost, as we now come to the Table of the Lord, may we reflect and claim our God -given giftedness. Allow yourself to be loved by the Spirit of the Risen Christ. I assure you if we allow ourselves to be loved by the Spirit of Jesus, our lives will be transformed with an inner peace and joy. Then we will be energized in a Spirit-filled way to commit ourselves to using our God-given giftedness in the service of one another. How blest are we to be the Church of the Holy Spirit -- the Church of the Pentecost event. We are an Easter people and Alleluia is our song. And yes, we are a Pentecostal people. That is not to give us a cardiac arrest to think we are Pentecostal. Rather, we are a faith community that are to claim the gifts and the charisms of the Holy Spirit. The great truth of Pentecost – for the first disciples and us as well – is that the Holy Spirit has the power to enlarge and expand the human heart if we allow the Spirit of Jesus within us to grow and enliven us with the power to live, with the power to forgive, with the power to welcome and receive all others in Jesusname. That power, the power of Pentecost becomes our own. Have a Blessed Day. [email protected] Follow me on twitter @FrJimSchwart sjcpastorsblog.blogspot.com May 20, 2018 Solemnity of Pentecost

WELCOME BISHOP SALVATORE MATANO!

PENTECOST!

Today’s first Scripture reading tells the story of Pentecost for the first Christian disciples. They experienced conversion. Their lives were transformed. They proclaimed the good news of the love of Jesus. There was a fire in their bellies that shaped their entire lives.

On this day of Pentecost, as we now come to the Table of the Lord, may we reflect and claim our God-given giftedness.

The great truth of Pentecost – for the first disciples and us as well – is that the Holy Spirit has the power to enlarge and expand the human heart if we allow the Spirit of Jesus within us to grow and enliven us with the power to live, with the power to forgive, with the power to welcome and receive all others in Jesus’ name. That power, the power of Pentecost becomes our own.

Have a Blessed Day.

Diocesan Missions Sunday Second Collection

Today, on Diocesan Missions Sunday, we are filled with renewed faith as the Holy Spirit comes upon us and calls each one to move beyond our daily concerns, important as they are, to help the Sisters of St. Joseph and the Sisters of Mercy bring the faith to God’s people in Brazil and Chile.

Bishop Salvatore Matano reminds us of our strong and proud mission tradition. The support of our Diocesan Missionaries by the Church of Rochester is a great piece of our history.

May we as partners of Christ help to build God’s kingdom by our prayers and financial gift today.

Fun Facts: Did you know that…. ?

The Penfield Coalition of Churches has six drop-off clothing sheds that are maintained in this area. On an annual basis the Church of the Holy Spirit collects about 50% of the total clothing donated from the six churches. This amount is more than twice the amount from the next highest location. Clothing drop-off sheds are the primary fund raiser for financing the building of Habitat for Humanity homes. So, on two fronts the Church of the Holy Spirit is contributing to the Corporal Works of Mercy – Clothing the Naked and Sheltering the Homeless. As Pope Francis said: “A bit of mercy makes the world less cold and more just.” Thanks Be to God (and mercy-filled parishioners)!

A Parish Gift to You: FORMED.org

Think of it as “Catholic Netflix,” a way to watch Catholic movies, documentaries, weekly commentary, and bible studies at your own pace in the comfort of your own living room or on your favorite device. There are even books (and eBooks) to download.

The Church of the Holy Spirit and St. Joseph’s have teamed up to offer access to all in our communities to use this service at home with families or individually.

In the Hospital or Recuperating?

Let Us Know For a Visit

Jesus heals the sick and one of the most beautiful expressions of our faith as Church is when we visit one another in a time of need. While hospitals do their best to identify Catholics with a particular parish, the only foolproof way for it to be known by our parish that you are in the hospital is for you to specifically mention being a member of this parish on your intake paperwork. For a number of reasons, parish information may never be recorded properly on this intake paperwork. We are very happy and able to visit in a time of need, and even make home visits and visits to rehabilitation facilities. To request a visit, simply contact the parish office (585.671.5520) and provide the details.
