HISTORICAL RESUME      The first Catholic families to settle in Lawrence

County came to this area between 1869 and 1870.

They were all immigrants from Europe who ini‐

tially settled throughout the Ohio Valley and

particularly in Cincinnati, Ohio. Inspired by the

new life possible for them in America, they soon

realized that a fresh beginning could only be

realized in an area which offered more job op‐

portunities.

With the advice and encouragement of Fr. Henry

Hueser, families from the Alsace‐Lorraine area,

Prussia, and Poland formed the Cincinnati

Homestead Society, and with the successful pur‐

chase of 25, 000 acres in Lawrence County

moved south to make their livelihoods. They

were skilled craftsmen, but were open to the

challenges of an agricultural lifestyle.

Some adapted to this change, others did not, but

those who made permanent homes in Lawrence

County and Lawrenceburg found this commu‐

nity to be the answer to their quest. As the size

and number of the families increased, so did the

size of their churches. After building two smaller

structures, the settlers used their native skills

and talents to build our present  edifice. The cor‐

nerstone was laid on May 3, 1887.

A Letter From Two Sacred Heart Students Dear Sacred Heart Parish,

We would like to thank you for all you do; it means so much to our school and church. We could not operate on tuition alone, which make our volunteers needed and appreciated. We know you are sacrificing your time, talent, and treasure to come and help our parish. It means so much to us that you would take time out of your busy schedule to update and repair our buildings. Thank you for painting, cleaning, repairing, and praying for us. We appreciate every volunteer who helps out in our school; giving our parish a much needed face-lift. Thank you everyone who helps in our fundraisers and celebrations.

We also want to thank volunteers who give their time to teach the children of the church about our faith. We appreciate the trips and retreats which help us all become more devout in our faith.

It means so much to us to attend Sacred Heart; it has helped us flourish in both faith and academics. The small size and good communication allows us to have much needed one-on-one time. Our recently updated technology helps us to better understand our lessons.

Everyone at Sacred Heart is a big family; we are all proud to be members. When one of us falls, we can depend on our family to pick us back up off the ground. We can count on our family for support, love, and faith. We appreciate every family member and love them. Thank you fellow family members for your love and support.

God Bless, Alexis Hill & Maria Kerstiens

A Request from Our School

If you know of any alumnus who has moved to a new address or who has died, our school requests that you call them with that information. This will be a saving on postage, as well as a saving on embarrassment for having sent a letter to someone who has passed away. If there is anything else helpful that you know about former alumni, please call with this information, also. It will be very much appreciated!

Our school’s number is 762-6125.

Commemorative T-shirts & Books We will be having commemorative T-shirts for our

Jubilee. Please put your name and shirt size on the sheet in the back if you would like a T-shirt! The sheet will be available on the weekend of May 5th & 6th!

We will also make available a book of the history of our Church (Vol. 2). This will be printed later on, so we would like your name for pre-ordering on that weekend as well! Sheets are provided!
