Belle Plaine Police Report
Fire CallsThe week of May 6-12, Belle
Plaine firefighters responded to the following submitted calls:
Thursday, May 9Firefighters responded at
11:05 a.m. to a report of a bro-ken gas line near the intersec-tion of West Prairie and South Eagle streets.
Tigers 5, Sibley East 3The Tigers took a 3-0 lead only
to have the Wolverines tie it with three unearned runs in the top of the third inning. But the Tigers responded with single runs in the fourth and fifth in-nings for an eventual 5-3 win.Dahlke pitched all six innings
for Belle Plaine, allowing one hit and three walks. No runs were earned. He struck out five.“We did a nice job of answer-
ing back with runs in the fourth and the fifth innings and that was enough for Dahlke, who didn’t have his best stuff today but really battled to keep us in the game before settling in and facing only the minimum over the final three innings,” Schultz said.“Bigaouette had a big game
for us, driving in two runs, scor-ing a run and making some very nice defensive plays,” Schultz continued.Belle Plaine had just four other
hits, including two by Eliason, who also scored a run and stole a base. Bahr and Dauwalter both had one hit.
Tigers 11, Sibley East 6Sibley East grabbed a 5-0 lead
after one inning but the Tigers didn’t take long to climb out of the hole with a trio of runs in both the second and third in-nings, after which the contest was knotted 6-6. Belle Plaine sealed the deal with five runs in the top of the sixth inning.Jordan Johnson started on the
hill for the Tigers, surrendering five runs (only one earned) on four hits and a walk. Chase Em-mers came on to pitch the final five innings, allowing only one unearned run on four hits and two free passes.“This game couldn’t have
started any worse as we gave up five runs in the first inning. Emmers came in relief and threw great. We did a great job of not giving up,” Schultz said.Zach Juaire was huge at the
plate, going 4-4, including a double, three RBI and three runs scored. Nelson drove in three runs with a two-run triple and sacrifice fly. Bahr, Dahlke and Bigaouette were the other offensive leaders.“This was a very good day for
us to get on track as we near the playoffs,” Schultz said. “We are a good team that had trouble getting the clutch hits and win-ning the close games, so hope-fully today will help lead to big things for this team.”

N.P. School Board Pondering Upgrades for Trojans’ FacilitiesAfter 35 years, the football
and track facilities at New Prague High School are due for upgrades. The school board is consid-
ering proposals to expand the football facility with synthetic turf to accommodate soccer, and potentially lacrosse if it is added. Other plans include permanent bleachers, improved lighting and a new scoreboard. The board also wants to know about costs associated with a reconstructed track around the
gridiron.Wold Architects & Engineers
also provided information on a new 40-acre athletic com-plex east of the high school. It would provide additional space for soccer, softball, baseball and other uses, the New Prague Times recently reported.School board directors are
looking for input from com-munity groups and citizens. Options for improved facilities may be funded via a successful bond referendum this fall.
Chaska City Council Says No to Drilling New, Private WellsCity officials in Chaska are
concerned about the amount of water pumped from aquifers serving city residents and those in other area communities. The city council recently approved a prohibition on the drilling of new private wells.A new ordinance prohibits the
drilling of new wells within the city’s metropolitan urban ser-vices area (MUSA). It states existing wells with the MUSA line may be used until the prop-erty is connected to urban ser-vices. Once connected, the pri-vate wells can only be used for
irrigation purposes. The new city ordinance does
not affect properties outside Chaska’s urban services area, the Chaska Herald recently re-ported.The new ordinance is trig-
gered by near-record water lev-els pumped last summer from aquifers serving the city and area. While Chaska implement-ed water restrictions, the city’s water and sewer supervisor said the aquifers serving the city showed signs of duress during recovery periods.
