following simple instructions after several requests, hands on others, wandering during eating times and inappropriate

manners/answering back. The students have been reminded about our school rules and citizenship values/expectations.

There will be no more second chances with these simple to follow rules. Students will receive time on the blue seat for

indiscretions etc. If your child comes home and tells you that they had time out of play today then there will be a very

good reason why.

Notes Home - Dear Parents/Carers, please ensure to ask your child if they have any notes or permission slips in their

bag every afternoon. These notes generally need to be returned within five to eight days. This is an ample amount of time

for notes to be returned. We do try to minimise the amount of paperwork that is sent home. At present teachers and staff

are spending too much valuable learning time chasing permission notes or handing out new notes. We do not want a child

missing out on an excursion or activity simply because a permission note was not returned.

Afternoon Pick up arrangements - Dear Parents/Carers, please ensure that you let the school know of

changed pick up arrangements before 3:00pm each day. There have been several instances of late where students have

not known how they are getting home or arrangements/changes have been made that day amongst parents which the

child does not know. If this is the case, please also ring the school. If your child normally catches the bus in the afternoon

however something has changed that day which we understand can happen, please let the school know. Otherwise the

breakdown in communication can lead to upset children and worried parents.

Late arrivals and early pick up - Please ensure that if your child is late for school or is picked up early they

must be signed in and out of school at the office.

Thank you for your assistance in these matters,

Regards,

Greg Speirs

Book Swap - Please remember to collect unwanted, pre-loved books for our upcoming book swap day. Books can be dropped into the school office. Also, feel free to spread the word to your neighbourhood as it is a community event.

K/1 Class News - We have hit the ground running after our lovely autumn break and as usual there is lots of great learning happening in the K/1 classroom. The students are happy and settled, and have established some great work habits already this year, including Year 1 homework and home reading journal completion. Thanks for your support families! Kindergarten have almost completed the first phase of the Jolly Phonics program, having learnt all single and some digraph sounds – I’m sure you have noticed their progress in their writing and reading. As well as diving into some persuasive writing, we are exploring informative texts in Literacy this term which is supported throughout our Science investigations into animal classification and we aim to create an information report about our favourite animal. We are also very lucky to have access to the Virtual Reality tours and we will use these to assist our research and understanding. There will be range of assessment tasks (both formal and non-formal) taking place over the next few weeks to assist me in report writing so if you know that your child will be absent from school for a length of time, please let me know. Also, with the cooler weather now upon us, could you please label all of your child’s clothing to ensure it doesn’t find its way to lost property! Have a great week, Mrs Adey

2/3/4 Class News - As always there is a lot happening in the 2/3/4 classroom and we are very impressed by the way everyone has settled into their work in term 2. This week we are starting our ‘Where in the World is Bronte?’ unit as Bronte has sent through some photos and clues from her travels and the kids will research these to find out where Bronte has been and map her journey on the back wall. We also start our own journeys using the very exciting Virtual Reality kits. Mrs Speirs has been busy planning lots of exciting, interesting and awe inspiring Augmented Reality Tours. These tours allow us to participate in experiences we otherwise wouldn’t be able to, such as diving with sharks and seals in the Galapagos Islands or a tour of a Space Station. In P.E. we are preparing for our Athletics Carnival to be held later on in the term by focusing each week on a different skill/event so that the kids are confident and familiar with each event on the big day. The whole class showed very impressive improvement in their shot-put technique using softballs and are now ready for the real thing! Our maths focus is on division and measurement. Division can often be a challenging concept, particularly if the children are still having trouble with their timetables. Each Tuesday morning Mrs Shannon team teaches with Mrs West and we are using this valuable time to focus our mathematics. Measurement lessons will have many hands-on experiences where the students use a variety of tools to develop their understanding of the practical nature of measurement concepts such as distance, volume and time. Our art lessons with Mrs Speirs are focusing on Autumn art where we are incorporating seasonal observations into our

artworks and identification of the natural elements we observe into our learning. And of course, we also have all the wonderful lessons in Gymnastics, Dance and Choir from our expert teachers, Malika, Miss Lauren and Ryan as well! 5/6 Class News - The term is off to a very busy start. We have started a new class novel titled” Mrs Frisby and the Rats of Nimh”. In Maths we have been looking at division and working out directions using a compass and grid co-ordinates. We are all enjoying Gymnastics on Mondays and our dance is coming together for the Small Schools Big Impact Concert next term. Next week we start our Virtual Reality lessons with Miss Kim. That will be really cool! Last year we studied a unit called Ocean Blue and looked at the effects of pollution in our oceans. This term we are going to be looking at the effects of oil drilling around our coastline, especially in the Great Australian Bight. There is a Norwegian company who has been given a licence to drill for oil in the Bight and that will be catastrophic for the environment right across the southern coastline. Fight for the Bight!

Canteen - Canteen will be open for Wednesday recess and Friday lunch. Friday lunch is beef tacos with sweet chilli

and sour cream. Volunteers are: Wednesday- Jenni, Richard and Sue. Friday - Jess and Renee. Please hand lunch orders in

on Wednesday.

Cheers,

Lucy

Year 6 GRIP Leadership Report

On Thursday year 6 had the opportunity to go to Lismore and see the Grip Leadership Conference. It was a fun and eventful day. Seth, Lily and Luna each got to go on stage in front of over 300 kids to complete activities each. We also learnt that leadership is about people not position or power. It was a fantastic day and I can definitely say that each person there learnt something and enjoyed the conference. By Luna and JJ
